I use to played pick-up games with Norm at Duquesne and Pitt's Campus. I always mentioned to him he should run track! I believe he could have been a excellent 400 meter sprinter.

Norm Nixon was a really good point guard in his prime. I know it didn’t end up working out between him and Magic, but they were still able to win a couple championships as a starting back court.

Well, as a Laker fan since 71 the 80’s were the best IMO. I followed Norm’s game in college & that began my wish list of former Lakers I wanted us to draft! I was EXTREMELY disappointed when we traded him, but Byron made up for it. Others I saw in college & wanted was obviously Magic, then Worthy, Eddie Jones (not happy when he left either, but we got Lamar) & Jerry pulling off the Kobe envision! Jerry West shoulda been a Laker FOREVER! He was a genius & still is, look how he changed other teams around just with his key sense of talent & advisory skills! Not to mention he was my idol as a teen. 🙂

Fastest guard the Lakers ever had, read Jerry West used to ride Nixon hard in practice (back when he was coaching the team prior to Jack McKinney's arrival) because even he could sense what a special talent he was but needed him to put his ego on the backburner to tap into it more consistently. Him and Magic in that backcourt during the early Showtime years was a real treat, both proven All-Stars who knew how to keep that ball moving on the offensive end. Damn shame they had to trade him for a real off-guard to complement Magic better, but at least it worked out in the end since they wound up landing Byron Scott in that deal. 1982 Finals was Nixon's finest moment, should've gotten MVP honors for his performance in that series too...

This man is the GREATEST Small ORIGINAL Point guard in Laker History...He's busted up everyone they put in front of him, even Jordan moved his Jump shot over to the Middle after Bull Clippers game and added a fallaway Jump shot to his arsenal after watching Stormin' Norn Nixon BUST'EM UP!!! Check that game. THANK you soo much for this video. We're remaking NBAonNBA:Showtime Raining Fire Champ Edition where Nixon and MAN others appear in this game GREAT video I scubbed.

The only thing I didn't like about Magic was he was the reason Norm left. I was a big fan of his.
@cooper4820112 жыл бұрын
Magic’s future as the sole point guard was the reason Stormin’ Norman Nixon was traded to the Clippers.
@teofemo70002 жыл бұрын
Jerry West was the reason. He had beef with Norm for years. Nixon kept talking to the media as the source of gossip and rumors. Nixon talked his way out of LA. It's a shame because he was a great player in his own right.

I was watching a lot of old Laker games lately, he was unable to find Kareem like Magic was. He would instead opt to shoot a contested mid range jumper... glad we got rid of him and gave the reigns to Magic
@75aces972 жыл бұрын
You might be right. I was little when it happened, but for years I thought Nixon to Byron was a steep downgrade, and it was, but in a team sport you have to consider fit & situational awareness. Talent and skill aren't all that matter. Still, Nixon became one of those guys people forgot how good he was by the end of his career.

Today NBA Comp: Mike Conley Norm Nixon in today’s NBA would’ve had a couple of 20 & 10 seasons. Solid midrange scorer, Too quick to stay in front of so don’t let him catch you in space and lots of moxie as well with his crafty passing ability.

In today's NBA, that Nixon-Scott trade doesn't happen; Magic would have had to live with playing off the ball, a bit. Dude should probably be in the HOF along with Mark Price. Both severely Underrated....

Mark Price is severely OVERRATED
@ManovSteelo4 жыл бұрын
@@mja91352 Why do you say that? At worst, he was Steve Nash Lite; plus, he played in a more physically competitive era than today's players. One of the first 40/50/90 guys and made 4 ASGs and a Team USA. Knee injury killed his career, though; like Ernie DiGregorio before him, had just enough quicks to be competitive but after the knee, he wasn't the same. Still a nice career, and doesn't get the credit for splitting two defenders with the dribble-thru and causing a downhill nightmare with the resultant open space. Nice player!

If not for injuries striking both of em in their primes, I'm sure they would be. Both were elite PG s at their best.
@75aces972 жыл бұрын
Actually it probably would happen today. Not many teams show a backbone when their temperamental star has an issue with a teammate.
@carlwallace11292 жыл бұрын
In today's NBA they would not have had to trade Nixon to get Byron Scott but it would have eventually led to Norm either wanting out or not getting resigned, but Nixon could have won 1 more ring with Scott and Magic maybe 😉

If the Lakers would've kept Norm Nixon during,the 1983-84 season The Laker definitely would've beat the,Boston Celtics in 84"Championship.I believe that trade came back haunted the Lakers in the finals.Because the Lakers threw,2 or 3 games to Celtics in the finals.

Exactly. The rookie Byron Scott choked against the Boston Celtics, especially at the garden.

Why didn’t they win the year before then?
@PeekaPeep4 ай бұрын
@@memphisbluu '83 was Philly's year, PERIOD. They sent flashy 'underachiever' Darryl Dawkins packin' along with veteran big man Caldwell Jones and brought in the best center in the league at the time in Moses Malone. When that happened, it was just a matter of how quickly they would have that title wrapped up nice and tight that season (lol). Lakers were still game at that point, but they didn't really have enough quality frontcourt depth to keep Moses in check for an entire playoff series.

You've got to be kidding. When did Caruso ever average 20pts a game or actually be able to consistently get his own shot off the dribble. Caruso is nothing but a glorified role player.
