Ach, I grew up with summer holidays at Happy Bay. For me it was the epitome of luxury. I had my first solo boating experience there with 5 years of age - snuck out with a row boat during the lunch hour when no one was looking. Got swept out with the tide and had to be rescued. Boy did I get in deep trouble for that one. I remember it to this day, and it would have been 1965. So sad to see its demise.

Yep. It's a bit sad seeing it closed and becoming run down. Thanks for commenting Dude.

Such a shame to see the resort abandoned, we spent part of our honeymoon at the resort back in 2010. Have fond memories of cocktails on the beach watching the sunsets.

Yep. A real shame. It's a great spot.

I get that a large part of having coffee is getting off the boat and going somewhere, but you enjoy it so much you really should have a coffee machine onboard.

We drink cofffeee on the boat, but enjoy a Cafe built one when ashore. It's a great excuse to have a walk.

Great video Norm as usual. What's the story with all these derelict holiday islands. Is it an indicator of the health (poor) of the Austraian economy? As per your suggestion on anchors in another video, I picked up a SARKA anchor last week. Do you use a bridle with yours? I never seem to see you unhook one. I seem to remember seeing you using an anchor stop. You presumably use that instead of a bridle?

I had my very first holiday at Happy Bay when I was about six years old in about 1967. I think there are so many abandoned resorts in the region because back in the 1960s, Australians could not afford overseas holidays. They were incredibly expensive. So the Whitsunday resorts were relatively cheap. But now we fly to Bali or Thailand for a few dollars. So you can blame the rise of cheap overseas travel.

A lot of these resorts are also owned by foreign investment company's that refuse to put any money into the place

Probably a bit of an economic indicator, Alan. The Sarka is a great anchor. I don't use a bridle, just a snubber. Tried a bridle set-up but it didn't do much. Thanks for commenting Dude.
