This is one of Normie Rowe's most brilliant achievements over the years of his long wonderful career when he sang in " Les Miserables ". He sings it with such feeling, inner passion and depths of his own soul, this was after loosing his son in an accident... I have always loved Normie's singing over the years of his long wonderful career, what a wonderful voice..... To top it all off Norma has this wonderful dramatic vocals when the opportunity arises..... I shall never forget the night he sang song after song for my 21st birthday, I felt so privileged that in the rests from stage Normie sat and chatted with my very young son and myself, not only did I see the very soft side of him but the desire to be a father.... What impressed me most was the gentle giant of a man with a huge sensitive soul within Normie and that awesome smile that still remains today, even after the horrors of the Vietnam War, for that changed the man forever as war always does.... Normie still remains for me one of Australia's best ever rock royalty this country has ever produced, though not many people give Normie credit for what he put into his career over the years.... Where this song is concerned Normie just nailed it in this brilliant performance, absolutely fantastic... Thanks for this post.

A wonderful performance full of emotion with a real quality in his voice. Normie was a good mate of mine, we went to school in Melbourne together. When it was wet on sports days, Normie would go get his guitar and sing to us boys in the school hall, not an easy gig. I have followed his career and always been proud of his achievements .....He remains a friend.

18/03/2121 WOW Normie you have just sprung out of the box for me after 30-40 years? I hadn't realised that your singing was at the standard which this song shows. Just wonderful. Also, thank you for your service to Australia; difficult? Yes! But, thank you just the same.

Yes. I don't know why that was . . Actually I do. Normie had no airs and graces. That can cause the general mass to miss the greatness because they don't feel intimidated

Normie sang this the best of all the Valjeans I witnessed. I saw Les Miserables live in a few countries and nothing compared to the Sydney cast. I have seen a lot of musicals and can tell you this was the best I have seen overall. He really became the part. You feel his pain. I get goosebumps and flashbacks to 'stalls' all those years ago.

Magnificent work of art! Darling Norman was always a great star n I knew it the first time I saw him at the Palais St.Kilda when he was about 16 n we were both Ivan Dayman's teen artists. The sound went out during Normie's act n as I watched in horror from the wings this extraordinary showman with his beautiful strong voice just carried on alone n stole all our hearts. The audience went wild n the legend was born. This mature iconic Normie has knocked me out again,n 'I'T'S NOT EASY' to do!

I remember hearing this many years ago and being utterly astounded when I realised who it was, Normie Rowe who up till then was to me an OK pop singer who used to beat the girls off with a stick but this brilliant voice just couldn't be coming from our little Normie Rowe. Could it ?

Ikr? It's incredible. Your not wrong there about beating them off. It was a phenomenon people now in these dulled times couldn't imagine how much life was in the air. And Normie . . Girls used to rip his clothes off. Herds of them

In answer to the above, this was Normie in the Sydney cast of Les Mis. Never heard this emotional song sung so passionately, superb moving performance, I think Normie was singing from the heart, raw emotion as he did lose a son in a road accident.

I clearly remember every detail of when Normie Rowe sang this on stage in Les Mis in Sydney (Circa 1987) with Debbie Byrne and a stellar cast. I had never been a huge Normie Rowe fan, but that performance !!! WOW, WOW,WOW! To this day I can feel the emotion and I still get a lump in my throat when I hear the song again. I well remember the tears flowing freely down my face, throughout this performance. Thank you Normie for one of the most special moments in Australian stage history. Your song lives in my heart still....Thank you to whoever uploaded this - shame the sound isn't as great as it could be. I have tried for a long time to get a recording of Normie singing this - but no luck. Thanks for the memories.

I saw Normie Rowe in the final preview for the Sydney season, and loved his performance. Over the years, guys with better voices have sung this song magnificently, but Normie delivered it as part of a fantastic and complete performance. A rough manliness pervaded his whole presentation, and I was rapt by him, and by the whole production.

i saw Normie in Les Miz a few times because after the extensive rehearsal weeks, his voice was tired. After he found his legs as they say, he settled into the role and regained his awesome voice and thus was a very good Valjean.

What a raw emotional performance from our Ausie Icon. I first heard this song yesterday morning on the ABC with Macca, Does anybody know if you can purchase this performance and where from. Congratulations Normie. Sung with so much feeling from a performer who has experienced much pain. Well done.

Saw it in Sydney more times than I can count as a young whipper snapper. Normie was sensational! I remember hearing at the time that the Australian Cast recording was actually made, but I'm guessing if that was the case it would have surfaced by now. :(

He's AMAZING - and Mackintosh should be SHOT for snubbing him and not allowing the Aussie recording or him to appear in the 25th anniversary concert because he showed up at the recording session in shorts. MY GOD!

From memory, that preview lasted 3 hours 20 minutes, and I could have sat through it all over with just a brief loo break. A friend saw us coming from the theatre into the foyer after the show and said we all looked like stunned mullets. Normie led that production and was truly Jean Valjean for me.
