8 factions produces 28 disctinct combinations of 2 factions. (7*8)/2. You divide by two so you don't count the same combos twice, otherwise Ninja Tricksters and Trickster Ninjas would be counted as 2 separate combinations.

I think your answer is right but your method is new to me. I'd guess it'd be 7+6+5+4+2+1, totalling 28. Each faction getting one less combination with each step. That method does seem to produce the same results though.

3:58 Regarding the base decks: the rules state that you're supposed to use the bases from the SETS the factions in play come from. For example, you are playing a 3 player game featuring Ninja-Geeks, Cthulhu-Teddy Bears, and Alien-Zombies. Your base deck will include all of the bases from the base game (for Ninja, Aliens and Zombies), the Bigger Geekier Box (Geeks), the Obligatory Cthulhu Set (Cthulhu), and What Were We Thinking? (Teddy Bears). Also, if you want the exact number of possible faction combinations, it's n*(n-1)/2 with n being the number of factions available. Remember that you can't pair like factions, so you can't do Ninja-Ninja (as an example). At the time of this video, n is 83 (Goblins are now a thing). So, the number of possible combinations is 3,403.

I am now a huge fan of the sheep faction... I went on a guy's weekend where we went to a bunch of OHL hockey games and we ended up playing it in the lobby of our hotel and a bunch of NHL superstars like Connor McDavid ended up coming in and played a different game right next to us.

Just to check your math, or "maths" as you say across the pond, but I think 8 decks is actually only 28 combinations. 64 would be 8x8, but that would include double decks, such as Ninja Ninjas, and repeats, such as Ninja Robots vs Robot Ninjas. Not to be rude. I just really like numbers. Still absolutely love this game and channel!

EDIT: FatherTime89 is right, my math bad in the 8 choose 4 part. Yeah 8 choose 2 would be 28, i thought maybe they counted the deck to play against in a 1v1 maybe but that would be 8 choose 4. Which comes to 70. I guess they are good at game design, bad at maths.

That first smash up was amazing and resulted in a career Neesonce that's vast and varied (not just his Taken-esque films), the second one is pleasant and satisfying, and the third and final one is my favorite, resulting in the most successful solo career out of the Spice Girls. Great to see Laurie add a favorite of his in the Board Game Masterpieces line-up.

I have a similar experience in Smash Up in that it's one of the games that got me through the door into the hobby and yet I still come back to it all the time and I get every expansion. I've even helpes playtested 3 different expansions for them.

@norollsbarred Technically, there should be 56 different combinations in the starter kit. Not 64. You can't have one pack both times, so it can't be 8x8, but 8x7. EDIT: I have made an error. It is 28, not 56.

I get it now. As a former competitive Yu-Gi-Oh and MTG player we are itching for a new game. We play EDH now and have freezed our meta their so everything is equal and very fun (and fast ish… hour long games) but then that gets messed up when a new player comes in. They are too spikey so my wife and I wanna spend $200 to make our decks better. This seems perfect. We just wanna PLAY!! We love games

Picking two from 8 is not 8*8 because you can't combine with itself and order does not matter but " 8 (pick first) times 7 (pick one of the others) divided by 2 (eliminate duplicates of order)" or "8 over 2" = 8! / (2! * (8-2)!" or 28. With 82 it's 82! / (2! * 80!) = 3321.

It's a good, fun silly game. Combination seems broken? Steal part of it away from the opponent(s). My favorite is Robot Zombies; they keep coming back, and keep powering each other up. So even when you kill some, they just return.

If you wanted to break down the combinations of different variations in a game - like how many unique deck combinations playing against each other at any one time, I think the math goes something like 7*5*3*1... so 105. Examples would be Player 1 with AB, Player 2 with CD, Player 3 with EF, Player 4 with GH. Moving decks around to different players would result (I think) in 105 unique game play scenarios.

I think your math is off by a factor of 2. We want all of the combinations, not permutations. Ninjas + Wizards is the same as Wizards + Ninjas. So that means we want to calculate 82 choose 2, which is 3321

Robot Fairies is the one I enjoy the most Steampunk Dragons if in a control mood and I am tired of other people having fun. I also like Zombie Plants. But really anything robot is pretty strong and so are Zombies if you don't know what else to put in a deck start with those and branch out I say. Even Zombie Robots are rather decent.
