NORSE MYTHOLOGY DRAUGR THE UNDEAD! The barrow wights of Tolkien's world were inspired by these Norse Mythological monsters. Note: The origin of the Draugr is lost to the mists of time, so Baldermort has done his best to consider why they would exist and what their origins would have been. This is an honest attempt to bring the Draugr a logical background and genesis considering their place in the mythology and the character of Old One Eye. We believe it is congruent, but this video is mainly conjecture. It is a fun tale that is meant to elicit more interest in the darker and more rarified elements of the mythology. We hope you enjoy it for what it is. An honest attempt. Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them. This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience. All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos. There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries. These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays. Written and Narrated By: Baldermort Edited by: Baldermort - who is out of practice, hence the slightly less interesting visuals. Sorry! SKÅL from Norway! 🍻 Draugr lore is one of those things so prevalent and iconic in real historic texts too, in terms of burial mounds and rituals and stories of the undead, whether folkloric or just cultural representations. They survive far more than even stuff about certain important Giants like Loki's father or goddesses like Gullveig and Saga, basically completely forgotten and obscure, stated even as neither Vanir, Aesir or Jotnar in case of Gullveg.

More norse myths. This was as grate as the video about how Zeus rules the gods. How you took these age old myths and stories and bring them to the modern world and help us understand them is a work of genius.

Once was given a Turkish Khyber Sword. Stamped into its leather bound wooden scabard, it read "Draugsbani" I have been told this means Bane of the Draugr.

I was wondering when we would return to Norse mythology. I think this is perhaps one of your best videos. I knew precious little about Draugr. So this video is a very welcome surprise. It is both entertaining and educational. Lady lightbringer, Sir Baldermort, keep up the fantastic work. You have at least one dedicated viewer who will always come back.

So, essentially Barrow-wights, right? 😁 **starts humming** " Ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo! By water, wood and hill, by the reed and willow, By fire, sun and moon, harken now and hear us! Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us! " I suppose even ol' Odin's second eye would fly open in disbelieve and amazement when a guy in a blue jacket and yellow boots answers and sings Odin's Draugr into running for the mountains, never to be seen again. 😆 " Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow, Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow. None has ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master: His songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster."

Tracing my family back to the old country, I come mostly from the northern parts of West Europe, so I appreciate these myths a touch more than the Greek myths. The old tribal traditions
@MythologicalStories-q1z25 күн бұрын
The myths from Northern Europe truly have a unique allure, with their dark atmosphere and rich symbolism. Those old tribal traditions really create a strong sense of connection to one's roots. Do you have a favorite story or legend from that region?

There needs to be a video game with Draugar as powerful as the mythical ones. Most games with Draugar make them simple zombies rather than the proper powerhouses wikipedia describes them to be. You could have different draugr bosses, each with varying powers like weather control, animal morphing or pure strength & speed
