Another great one, Russ. Did you know that the lakes are that beautiful turquoise color in mountains carved by glaciers, because the glaciers grind rocks into 'rock flour', particles small enough to remain suspended in the water even thousands of years later? Its sometimes called 'glacial milk'! I can't wait to see what you'll do when you come to the coast. Don't tell me, let it be a surprise.

Russ, Ross Lake Ross dam, Gorge lake Gorge dam, Diablo lake Diablo dam are all Seattle City light facilities. Long before N Cascades NP. we camped at Colonial Creek campground when it was as far as you could go. Best place in the US to live. Fires and smoke notwithstanding. State rte 20 stops when it runs into us 101, still a ways to the coast. Really nice watching you travel it. Thank you

When we lived there the workers took a lift up to the Dam access point....The following is from the park service. There is no road access to Ross Lake from State Route 20. Road access to Ross Lake is available in Hozomeen. To access Ross Lake from State Route 20, most boaters will launch on Diablo Lake at Colonial Creek Campground then paddle five miles to the base of Ross Dam. Near Ross Dam, you can either portage your boat around the dam (portage is about one mile with over 500 feet of elevation gain) or utilize Ross Lake Resort’s portage service. Only way to see Ross is by boat.

You should have kept going after you crossed the dam. The learning center is worth the stop. They built Ross Lake dam by bringing full size railroad cars loaded with material up the side of a hill on a tram. at the top of the hill they had railroad tracks to haul the material over to the dam site. You could take the tram years ago but not sure if it is still being used for visitors. Been awhile since I've been up there but camping at Colonial Creek Campground is very nice (you passed it one of the bridge crossings). Thanks for bringing us along.

they have dam tours out of newhalem you get to take a boat ride up to the tram but it no longer functions the tour includes dinner, my former neighbor used to cook there.

This scenery rivals CO...think it might be even prettier. Learned abt the turquoise color many years ago when we traveled in Canada...glaciers scraped rocks, turning them into flour. Then as the "rock flour" mixed with water, chemical reactions turned the water this beautiful turquoise color (it's even more striking in Canadian river waters, more hints of green like it mixed with copper). Think this has been my favorite YT of your virtual vacation...the trip over the dam was a thrill because you can't cross any nowadays after 9/11. & the Gorge (oops-not George) Creek Overlook with all the waterfalls was spectacular. Haven't seen a metal grid type bridge since we vacationed in New Zealand over 20 yr ago. They are great when it comes to dealing safely with snowy conditions like I bet this area has in winter. 🥰Superb video👍

I hope you went to the *ghost town* below the dam. It was a tiny city built for Seattle City Light workers who were building the dam. There is a railway that goes up the side of the mountain to the top of the dam. When I visited back in the early 90s the town was well kept but it seemed like no one was living there. The test for the flood siren (tornado siren) was at 5 P.M. the day I was there. It was getting dark and it was a gloomy cloudy day when the siren started going off. It was so eerie, being in this perfectly landscaped town, nobody around and the siren going off. Beautiful place Its been 25 years since Ive been up there at the dam. I miss that part of the world. Glad you got to see the hidden gems of the North Cascades!
