"In the world, you always build upon what you have learned in the past, adding new things as you go along. As you advance, you become more selective in what you learn because you want to validate what you have learned already. Thus, the intent of education, which is to learn something new, to experience something new and to be able to do something new, becomes lost because increasingly you will attempt to validate the past. Here you will become more fearful and anxious about the future, less willing to see things as they really are and less open to new ideas, new experiences and new capabilities. Here the mind closes down upon itself. It often does this with the belief that it is open and accessible when in fact it has become such a filtering mechanism that very little new information can come to it, either from within or from without." You are an amazing person, who talks intelligently and with balance despite the atrocities you have witnessed and suffered. Your resilience, humility and deep sense of humour (I love that you call your husband your American Bastard) is an inspiration! I completely concur with your points about education and knowledge. Would recommend a book called Amazing Grace, for a deeper look into the American education system. It delves into systemic racism due to public policy and funding models etc. yet isn't too dry (that means it's not overly academic).

Who is she again? Like common, North Korea got the shit bombed out of them by American forces and is being bullied by the world banks. You dont know shit if you feel pity for her. According to FBI stats, 80,000+ children go missing each year in the USA
@Renwick25854 жыл бұрын
@@andyc3012 There is nothing "common" about North Korea, and the bombing you refer to presumably happened between 1950 and 1953, you know, during the midst of a war in which North Korea did plenty of fighting itself. North Korea remains one of the world's worst offenders of human rights. The NK government imprisons and sanctions torture of hundreds of thousands of people for "crimes" that family members commit. No judicial system protects these alleged criminals' rights to due process, and certainly nothing protects their families. You randomly cite a statistic about missing children in the US. I agree that's sad. The US government, however, plays no role in facilitating the disappearance of those children. It does play a role in trying to track and find them (hence the reason you can find this data through the FBI). No one country is perfect, as Yeonmi said, there is no black and white. But you say she doesn't deserve pity, and that is absolute nonsense. All of North Korea, excluding the Kim family and their enablers, deserve our pity. NK is not a country to be emulated, revered, or admired. Quite the opposite. Again, why can't you feel pity for her, but suddenly feel empathy for 80,000 missing children... because they have gone missing in the United States...? I can't follow this convoluted and incoherent reasoning. Try again.

I was a very shy teenager once so my father made me sign up for speech and debate at my high school. It was the very best thing that could have happened to me. I learned how to research the facts and how to speak to others in an organized way. When preparing for a debate, you never know which side you will be asked to take so you have to do equal research both pro and con any argument. Doing that, we learn how to organize the chain of reasoning by building the facts to a logical conclusion. Of course, we also learn how to defeat the other side’s argument the same way. It is a perfect way to learn critical thinking and reasoning to reach a conclusion. The bonus is that you will also understand how the other guy arrived at his beliefs too.
