Sadly, the issues is with the entire system of government, not just the dictator. If someone did take him out we'd see a power vacuum, and someone equally as terrible or worse would take over. There are ways to facilitate change within the country though! The non-profit org Liberty in North Korea helps defectors travel safely through China, and also produces content for North Koreans to view. The more that the people realize they have power and allies on their side, the more they will want to revolt.

When I studied in South Korea at Yonsei University, I had the privilege of meeting a North Korean defector. I was so grateful to be in the same room as she was, listening to her stories of the difficulties she faced in North Korea. :(
@sonyppl6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Joe Om! I was at Yonsei for a year and loved every minute of my experience there. With that being said, I also met numerous other students and befriended many South Korean students as well (I currently keep in touch with two very close Korean friends who I've hosted at my home in the states). But my question is, does this condescending view arise from the older generation of South Koreans? Because I do recall speaking about this subject with my South Korean friends (ages ranging from 20 to 24 years old) and they were always very empathetic about the conditions & reality that North Koreans live with.

You know, I've noticed how everything's more about entertainment. It's like we a people can't be interested in it's raw, serious form. I watch Colbert from time to time, and he makes it easier to tolerate the politics in America, but in general, it's sad that we can't connect to something unless it "amuses" us. There's a time to laugh and jest, and then there's a time to be serious and even a bit frightened at what's going on around us.
@Player_Review6 жыл бұрын

I don't know, those North Koreas on the show are talking about very traumatic and horrible memories for them and the South Koreans on the show are making jokes and putting up colorful cartoons. I think this show could have been done a lot better but maybe its a cultural thing.
@generalpurpose7726 жыл бұрын
TrueEnergizerBunnies I’m not from South Korea, and I have never visited but as far as I know that is just the format of a lot of talk shows. Stylistically it is the antithesis of what we would expect from a serious talk show in the west but that is what gets ratings in South Korea. Also, it’s important to understand that they aren’t mocking the guests, in fact the entire show is dedicated to them and their stories. Also, I guess it is liberating for them to finally be able to speak their minds about North Korea, and make fun of the propaganda they were raised on. They now know that the rest of the world isn’t as bad as it was made out to be by the North Korean government, and I say go out there and be happy. Dress however you want, eat as much food as you like, totally fall into the capitalistic pit we all love and loathe simultaneously. Then, after sometime they will gain a sense of balance. It’s important for defectors to be able to see everything that society has to offer, and decide for themselves because these will be some of the first free choices many of them will be making EVER. It’s so incomprehensible to me, I can’t imagine what it is like to go from being told how to dress, how to cut your hair, what to eat, what you should study, where you should live, what you should think and what you should or shouldn’t say. I’ve had all of these freedoms, and so should they, though I don’t doubt it’s easy to start out an independent life in a wealthy nation who reaps the benefits of consumerism after living in an isolated state that enforces a singular political belief and punishes those who disagree with their ideology.
@sonial.33326 жыл бұрын
What still said. In South Korea their talk shows tend to be very animated and to a certain extent playful . I feel if you are not used that format it would look extra silly. Also it looks like they joke around more but that’s because they usually don’t have heavy subjects. Towards the beginning they said they purposely use this format in order to make these harder subjects easier to digest. I don’t think they realized how much her story was going to affect them to the point
@deborah31816 жыл бұрын

@aznmochibunny6 жыл бұрын
I agree with the first 2 replies. If you are not used to Korean entertainment and variety shows, it could be really hard to digest especially considering the topic. The show is regarded as a variety show and in South Korea, a lot of variety shows do have the cartoon sounds and colorful emojis although yes, those topics are more fun and light hearted. As to what @Sonia Lobel said, they are trying to make the situation more light hearted to digest for South Korean viewers and a lot of the topics that they talk about aren't huge and heavy topics but more on the light hearted side of their daily lives being a North Korean citizen.

But it seems like they only choose the most pretty girls and then dress them up so they look as cute as possible. Wasn't one of the reason to come to South Korea the freedom to choose what they want to wear? At 8:56 one of the crew members of the show said "I told you to find someone pretty", so only good looking girls get to tell their story? And how much of the story is changed so the show is more interesting? How much money do the girls get?

I'm only a few minutes in but the woman speaking about how she escaped should keep that quiet and to herself...don't give up the escape methods so that others can also get out. However, by going on TV, you're now making yourself well-known which can make an assassination or kidnapping a lot harder, so I do approve of that. I'm not crazy about the TV show though...but then again, almost all Asian reality shows baffle me (everything seems hyper-happy and very cartoony. +Elle P That seems likely to be the culture she was raised in. Divert attention from the real things happening in your country by distracting the (upper-class) citizens with superficial values. From the little I've seen in the rare North Korea inside documentary, rich North Koreans have 2 values, their lifestyle and, more importantly, the "Great Leader". I think it really shows more about North Korea itself than the actual merits of that one woman.

Watching Sue Yung is like watching a baby chicken being hatched. So eager to live and breath normally now. She must let her guard down and know people will respect her words and thoughts. So happy for the people who escape this crazy country that Kim Jung Un is running. He has such disturbing power in North Korea. When the young lady in the white coat held Sue's hands up to her hands it was like Sue felt confident and that she has a friend. I pray they remain friends for life. Sue will blossom into a lovely lady and marry one day. Happy Sue is working and has her own apartment with food and water. With plumbing inside like normal countries have. None of these ladies or men should ever settle for anything but the very best for themselves! That means whom ever you marry should always treat you will dignity and love and grace. I feel terrible for their family members still trapped in North Korea. My heart breaks for them. I pray that Kim-Jong Un is captured and sent to USA prison and tossed in a dark cell. KimJong Un will suffer if not die. Feed him once a day perhaps let him out in one of our prisons that have inclosed cages once a month for 20 Minutes. Toss all of Kim's head guys into prison. The man is a monster who has lost his mind. I think he's psychotic which happens around 17 to 30 years of age. I cannot understand why so many army members don't overthrow the government there in North Korea? Kim Jong /Un feels the end is near in his bones. That's why he's always marching and threatening the USA 🇺🇸 Here in the USA we don't display our military we just act. We'll bomb without warning. North Korea will be demolished into rumble in a few days. I feel sorry for the brain washed people and so sad for those being tortured still. I cannot even turn my mind to what a nut case does to people who could effectively help him. But Kim Jong Uns mind is warped . I pray for the elders and children who will parish. I would say go if you have the money and safety to cross over to 🇰🇷 South Korea. Kim Jong Un and his slippery scumbag sister are playing games at the Olympics. She's a sheep in wolfs clothing as we say in the USA 🇺🇸 Another thing Kim Jung Un doesn't get because he's sick in the head is what we say here also in USA " DONT MISTAKE MY KINDNESS FOR WEAKNESS " I know his people cannot read this on KZbin or the internet but maybe the little leader of North Korea with his child like hands who's pants are always too long will read this. KIM JONG UN YOU WILL READY THIS. YOU KIM ARE A LOSER WHO WILL NOT SURVIVE A WAR BETWEEN USA AND OTHER COUNTRIES THAT JOIN US AGAINST YOU. KIM YOU ARE A BIG FISH IN A SMALL POND IN YOUR COUNTRY. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHATS COMING YOUR WAY. SOUTH KOREA IS SO BEAUTIFUL WITH COLORS AND JOBS. YOUR COUNTRY IS GREY AND BLEAK NO JOBS NO-ONE LIVING IN HIGH RISES YOU BUILT? YOU'RE A WHACK JOB WHO WASTED MONEY TO BUILD A COUNTRY THAT GIVES THE PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST AS EQUAL TO YOU. YOUR MONUMENTS WILL CRUMBLE INTO LITTLE PIECES LIKE YOUR BRAIN. Again I'm so pleased to watch this educational television show🤗❣️🇺🇸
