Watch as our rather intimidating military tour guide casually recounts how the North Koreans bent the United States to its will, and forced the US to surrender.

Here are some facts about the nature of the North Korean dictatorship: There is no freedom of speech, there is no freedom to create political groups, there are labor camps for the families of people who are thought to oppose the regime. Now, you cannot refute those facts, but I'd like to see you try. In a dictatorship, where one man holds the majority of all power and executes his advisers, no one will dare to or be allowed to criticize the regime. The regime then doesn't know what the population actually needs or wants, even if the regime wants to give the population a good life. Even if Kim Jong Un was a FANTASTIC LEADER OF GREATNESS he still wouldn't be able to effectively run his country because of the lack of critique. And now that Kim Jong Un actually isn't a fantastic leader, I'd say that North Korea isn't "alright". It's horrid. I haven't heard this argument in the media ever. Just so you know: I'm not brainwashed, I just disagree with you. But please, squidward, show me the way to the truth if you know it so well.

The ship they captured was the USS Pueblo, which was a ww2 era converted research boat. It had no real weapons and It didn't have escorts. North Korea sent 4 torp boats and two subs and some fishing boats to engage and capture it. After which the Seventh Fleet including the enterprise was dispatched to demand the crew back (North Korea would of been absolutely shit stomped had they actually engaged the seventh fleet)

She's talking about the Pueblo Incident, which occurred in 1968. The U.S.S. Pueblo, a small spy ship, which the US denied was spying at the time but eventually admitted, was captured by the North Koreans in January 1968. 83 sailors in total, 1 was killed. They were held captive for about 11 months exactly. The North Koreans tried to "reeducate" them and use them for propaganda, but the US Sailors hilariously ruined their propaganda by giving the "Hawaiian Good Luck Sign" in most of the pictures and films the North Koreans took of them. As the North Koreans didn't understand "The Finger" back then... After the grueling negotiations dragged on for more than 10 months, the North Koreans finally agreed to give them back in exchange for a long winded and ridiculous apology, that the USA instantly disavowed, but got the men back so whatever. It was so ridiculous that no one took it seriously. 82 living Sailors and 1 deceased for a total of 83, crossed the Bridge Of No Return in the DMZ, just before Christmas 1968. While this is a mere footnote in USA history, it remains a great source of victory and pride in North Korea. The small U.S.S. Pueblo shown off as North Korea's great trophy. EDIT: If interested, in the comments below I've posted copies of both the "Apology" and the "Confession". EDIT EDIT: The plot twist was that in the 1990's, declassified documents showed that the U.S.S. Pueblo *actually was* spying, but not on North Korea, and no one in the crew of the ship knew it was spying. As the safest spies are the ones who don't even know they are spies. It was called Operation Clickbeetle, and the idea was to station a small and unthreatening ship as a patrol to track the movements of the Soviet Pacific Fleet. The Pueblo crew thought they were doing some boring mission of studying weather patterns and their effects, but really they were sitting out there ready to report if any Soviet ships were sighted. The US Navy didn't think anyone would attack the obviously not made to fight U.S.S. Pueblo, but North Korea seized an opportunity to capture a ship that was made to deliver mail, as a "war trophy".
