The history of Korea is not so different from the history of Ukraine. There have been a lot of ethnographic changes over the centuries but the story has remained the same- it's a place that hasn't had much peace because it's always being fought over by larger neighboring powers. The north was completely devastated from the sky during the war- it was brutal. And that was after decades of Japanese occupation and before several decades of Stalinist dictatorship... most of the people they send to fight you will be half-starved peasants who have no idea what's going on and have never seen such things before as they will see now. They will be used as "canon meat". When you start taking some of them as prisoners (though they will fear capture very much as it may have consequences for their families back home) you'll see that unless they're from the capitol or a couple of other cities- North Koreans are the closest thing in this world to time-travelers. There is something about it that's almost like facing your own past- like waves of peasant-slaves from straight out of the khalhoz a century ago are being sent against you.. it is somewhat surreal.

Great Britain, the center and model of modernity, was conquered two times by foreign powers. The first was by the Danish for 30 years. The second was by the Norman french, who ruled them for another hundred years. Compared to korea who was a tributary for its existance and vassalized thrice by the mongols for 80 years, China for 12 years, and Japan for 5 years, and conquered by japan for 35 years, and japan which was never really conquered but occupied and turned into a tributary after its defeat in ww2, shows that east asia was equally able to be prideful as the west. Europe also after ww2 became tributaries of the US, with germany being equivalent to japan, and Italy and the UK being equivalent to South korea in both number if bases and complacency in ww2. So, even though korea’s parallel would be historically the group of non imperial western countries(ireland,iceland,norway), Due to the group being actually conquered and not having a history that is to the likes of 80 years of medieval vassalage, 17 years of being a modern protectorate, and 35 years of being conquered compared to the many centuries of assimilation the non imperial western countries(ireland,iceland,norway) that are 10 fold of what korea experienced, korea should be considered a nominally independent nation. In matters of autonomy, Korea should be compared to portugal(iberian union), belgium(french and austrian rule), netherlands(spanish rule), and england(danish and norman rule), for what it’s worth korea’s occupation by japan was the same as any other european conquest by foreign powers in the above, as state shinto itself was a false modern religion of traditional shinto actually practiced that disintegrated after world war 2 and buddhism being a common religion and confucianism being a political philosophy which can be removed and korea entering the modern world be desinifying all support these claims.
@KaeyK.24 күн бұрын
The tributary system was also a symbiotic relationship and mutual agreement. In exchange for Gifts, china's security and acknowledgement of the sinocentric superiority of the qing emperor, Korea gained access to china's self sufficient market, chinas military backing, etc.

@@KaeyK.This. You explained it very well. If you ACTUALLY learn the history, Korea has always been an independent military power in East Asia. Korea defended itself from all the invasions except one recent 35 year Japanese occupation and 3 surrenders in its 2000 years of existence. If someone was challenged to fight 100 times and only lost 4 times, you wouldn’t say the person was weak.

Samjeol (三一節, March 1st Independence Movement Day) is a national holiday of South Korea, commemorating the March 1, 1919, when the people of the Korean peninsula rebelled against Japanese imperial rule and declared the independence of Korea. On March 1, 2022 The Embassy of Ukraine in Seoul has a special request for Samjeol. Please pronounce the names of major cities in their country, such as Kiev, in Ukrainian, not Russian. So South Koreans changed the spelling of Ukrainian place names from Russian to Ukrainian. Also South Koreans donated $1.9 million to the Ukrainian Embassy in South Korea. September 3, 2024 Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan has visited the Yasukuni Shrine, where the spirit tablets of some Class-A war criminals are enshrined. And the Ukrainian government has not taken any action against the behavior of the Ukrainian ambassador to Japan. Many people are disappointed and angry with the ambassador's actions and the lack of response from the Ukrainian government. The visit to the Yasukuni Shrine was seen as a blatant disregard for the suffering of the Korean people under Japanese imperialism and a betrayal of the solidarity and support that South Koreans had shown towards Ukraine. Furthermore, the Ukrainian government's lack of action or apology for the ambassador's behavior has only added to the negative sentiment towards Ukraine. Many South Koreans feel that if Ukraine cannot even acknowledge and address the harm caused by Japanese imperialism, then they cannot truly be considered a friend or ally. It is clear that in order for Ukraine to regain the trust and support of South Koreans, they will need to acknowledge and address the concerns and grievances of the Korean people.

I've watched the North Korean military parades. They are very scary and regimented. The NK soldiers are like zombies. One weakness of the NK military is that it has limited combat experience. The Korean war was in the early 1950s so the current NK army has no actual combat experience. Another weakness of NK is that they don't know the Ukraine territory like Ukrainians, Not certain of the quality of their military equipment either.

First time here. Decent topics, but I'm allergic to the generalization and habitual cliché *"Westerners".* There are immense differences between the countries. A great example of that would be how vastly different in views and actions _the fanatic Ukraine supporters of _*_Scandinavia and the Baltics_* are to, let's say Greece, Italy and Austria. The latter couldn't care less about supporting Ukraine, whereas the former are fanatical about crushing Russia and aiding Ukraine. _Again, _*_STOP_*_ grouping and incorrectly applying the cliché "Westerners". - _*_It doesn't benefit anyone, rather its misusage is clearly counterproductive._*

Is North Korea troops good fighters? All nations in the west thought Russia was the big boy in the playground until that is when Ukraine stood up and gave it a big slap making the world change its mind about Russia. The thing that North Korea has in common with Russia is numbers of soldiers that can and will be used as pure "Cannon Fodder". The last time N Korea was in a war was in the 1950s and they where loosing until China stepped in to help. Hence the situation there is now with North and South Korea. When I look at Ukraine I see two very very similar situation in history. 1. America fighting for it's Independence against a larger Great Britain. 2. Great Britain fighting for it's Freedom against Germany in WW2. AND WE ALL KNOW HOW BOTH TURNED OUT FOR THE SO CALLED 'UNDER DOGS'... Slava Ukraine. 🇬🇧

Russia and North Korea have a mutual protection agreement. When one side is attacked militarily, the other side is obliged to use all military forces to assist. Russia's Kursk was invaded by Ukraine, and according to the agreement, North Korea has the obligation to protect it. But if North Korean troops enter Ukraine, the nature of the situation may be completely different. Just like NATO troops assisting in eastern Ukraine, if NATO troops enter Kursk, the nature of the situation will change completely. It is hard to say who will win in the end, Ukraine or Russia. Many people predict that it will most likely end up like the North Korea and South Korea model, or the Chinese mainland and Chinese Taiwan model. Ukraine's weapons self-sufficiency rate is too low, and it relies too much on NATO support. This requires a lot of money, and whether they can provide long-term and stable support is very important. Russia has three to four million military industry practitioners, vast land, and is self-sufficient in steel and oil. Both sides have a strong will to fight. The strategic stalemate stage is like running a marathon, which is a test of endurance and perseverance.
@Christmas-Cooter23 күн бұрын
North Korea has an obligation on paper to show up to the fight from an agreement Putin and Kim made on joint-defense of each other's countries. This as a double-edged show of force in a house of mirrors. North Korea and Putin needed hard proof on the ground that North Korea was willing to go to war. This also implies that Russia would do the same for North Korea, later. It is a political strategy not only to western leadership's hesitation, but to the entire world of civilians who have their own opinion that changes from country to country and region to region, as well as mindset and political alignment, especially during the election climate.

NATO'S troops are in Ukraine since 2014. What is the problem with Russians calling their allies as well?
@Bob9439023 күн бұрын
You don't notice the nuance here? NATO has had military advisors in Ukraine, with the aim of securing peace. russian and north korean soldiers are sent out to invade and kill.

ok, so I’ve never been 100% for ether side always in the middle, i’m not pro Russia, , but honestly looking at the situation even pro Ukraine people should not be that blind to the chances not being in favor of Ukraine, walking away with an absolute victory with this one , a negotiated settlement on even terms as probably the best they can be helpful at this point, holding out for a total victory is going to guarantee an absolute loss,
