10 years in the US Army Infantry and we did many of the "cool-looking" things shown in ads. However, ads never show the hundreds of hours doing busy work or waiting for someone else to do their job, before you can do yours

I always found these types of recruitment ads hilarious. When you get there, it’s nothing like what’s depicted in these ads. Case in point, I served in the US Navy for 6 years m, and at one point, a ship we were deployed with, made their own version of the ad. It featured the same bad ass music, with footage of sailors swabbing decks, cleaning their berthing (the area on the ship were we sleep) scrubbing toilets…it was very inspiring haha

It's important to remember that for Japan it's not a "military". It's the JDSF, it's a self defense force. It's primarily been used as a rescue and service organization more than a combat organization. They can fight, I've trained with them, but they aren't trying to get people in for that purpose.
@mohdghazali3473
@mohdghazali3473 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the "military" and the "patriotism through the military" is still controversial in Japan. It's even important that the constitution of Japan emphasize against the military. Yeah, you're right. They try to instill this image on purpose. Though I heard they're trying to change the constitution to change this image.

@@mohdghazali3473 from what i understand part of the Tokyo Trials led to Japan being forbidden from having a standing military, i'm not sure how many years that's supposed to be in effect but essentially they are not allowed to do such as far as international law is concerned.

@@shoyupacket5572 Its supposed to be forever so they dont end up like before. Some politicians of the ruling party (esp the fomer prime minister, Abe) are trying to amend the constitution to allow expansion of the military since they feel threatened by china and nk, and think the threat level will only continue to rise. At the very least, they want to or have been slowly expanding the self defense forces budget but even that is controversial
@mohdghazali3473
@mohdghazali3473 2 жыл бұрын
@@shoyupacket5572 No, that's incorrect. When the Korean and Chinese Voice their anger when a lot of Japanese War Criminal were not tried in court, MacArthur said US intention is merely to turn Japan into US trusted allied. Tokyo Trial is nothing more than a stage to appease Korea and China and it's didn't solve anything or even give closure. That banned on having military were put by the post-war Japanese government who try demonstrate that Japan truly change and gain the world's trust. In reality this upset US, US want the Japan to establish a new military after they dismantled the Imperial Japanese Army. This is why the Japan Self-Defence Force quickly gain support from US military. Back then, US always pressure Japan to update their military policy but after Japanese government continuosly adopted the policy to upgrade the JSDF as more than just a defence force, that when US leave Japan alone. That's until Trump became a president and state how US waste it's money to defend Japan main island when that military base should focus on wider regional rather than Japan main island only. It's important to note the opposition to upgrading defence force to military force only came from within Japan especially from leftist like the Japan Communist Party that opposed the "militarisation of Japan". The only one that worried for Japan growth in military is China who felt threatened over their claimed on Taiwan and their control over the Sea of Japan and East China Sea.

Cool concept only downfall in the line up is the fact that Japan was in it. As they don't "really" have an army (as a result of WWII) is pointless to include. They are only a defense unit (within it's own border) and peacekeeper unit within the UN; any and all outside military (offensive or retaliatory is obsolete as the US military takes care of that as per the 9th article of the Japanese constitution).

You don't earn citizenship by serving in the US military. You still have to do what everyone else has to do to become a citizen. The only benefit they probably got out of it was that the rules state that you have to reside in the US for a certain amount of time to qualify to be a citizen. Normally people do that by applying for a particular visa which is hard to do and even harder to keep for the required time. It's much easier to get the requirement by joining the US military because they won't say no and you can stay easily for a much longer time while your citizenship papers process.....which takes years.

Japan has no army, but the self-defense force, and by law they are not allowed to attack other countries, and their main job is to rescue people in times of disaster, so the video does not encourage people to go to war like other countries do. I think this video makes sense since the focus is on protecting the people rather than fighting them. Another reason is that most Japanese people are anti-war, so if army recruitment ads were shown on TV like in other countries, there would be many complaints.

Going off the comment he said about how the other countries felt cringe or showy: I feel like the other countries were more focused on showing the, look how great "we" are but the American and kinda the Russian ones showed how great "you" could be, ya know what I'm saying? It was focused more on the individual opportunities and growth potentials. I thought that was neat.

The guys just did a lot of work for US recruiters! Keep them coming. I would go to sea with you guys as a former US sailor. You seem loyal and like you don't sweat the small stuff. I would like to see you do one on the Navy and what the food is like underway sometime

Now all you have to do is walk into the Marine recruiter's and tell them you would like to join the Army. Good luck! :)
