I must visit Alans and Rise Above next time I'm in London. First saw Lee the owner of Rise Above fronting Napalm Death in 1988 😊... So many rare records in there. Enjoyed your video.

Nice shop and thanks for taking us on a little London trip. Been a few years since I was in England now (Scotland in 2019, but no England or Wales since 2015). Very nice records as well! Cheers from Morten over here in Denmark.

Another great trip George. I'll add Alan's Records to the list along with Rise Above, which I already have from your last video and will definitely visit one day. Great video, cheers Dale

Enjoy these George. I love seeing suburban London too. I grew up in Slough/Windsor so as a kid I was always getting the bus into London & going to these odd little suburbs in the 80s , they all had those mad old school record shops. I didn’t know any of these bar Sandy which I used to have on CD. I’ve heard lots about Alan’s, must visit some day.

Thanks Harris 🙂 I totally agree about the London thing, it's really part of the trip going to these areas I've never been before. It was a great day. I really think you'd enjoy Alan's. As I said, proper old school, felt really traditional like it hadn't changed much in years. Very broad range of stock, he sold pretty much everything.

Hi George, another great video. I'm all the way in Australia and can only look on at your footage from Rise Above Records with total envy. I am a newcomer to Ian Carr and Nucleus and recently picked up a CD compilation titled 'Torrid Zone: The Vertigo Recordings 1970-1975'. I'm really enjoying it and the later Vertigo releases are in parts incredibly funky. Keep the videos coming!'

Love these crate digging videos George. I need to get back to the UK so badly, going to try this year. Lovely Sandy Denny. Shaft is an essential. Nucleus records are hard to come by hear, maybe I’ll fins some at our upcoming record fair. Great finds. Cheers.

Thanks as always 😀. I can imagine the UK releases being scarce where you are. Same over here with North American bands/issues. Without a doubt try these shops if you make it to London.

I used to bring vinyl and CD home by the bagful when I worked for PWL Records in the Nineties. Often stayed down the block from Record and Tape Exchange in Notting Hill.

I went to Rise a few weeks ago for the first time. I managed to pick up a personal grail, MoFi Dark Side of the Moon 1981. That cleared out my budget but still a good price and a bonus being able to play test it in store.

Great score there, it's brilliant in there isn't it, glad you checked it out. I think even on this second trip for me I could have spent more. Will be returning.

Having collected for 40 years, I got most of my collection from car boot sales, jumble sales, charity shops and private sellers. It is NOT what it used to be. Those records on the wall, many of those I’ve had and sold on but kept a few back for myself. Had loads of stuff from charity shops like rainbow ffolly, nick drake first presses, lots of island pink label stuff like nirvana and tangerine dream. I need to do some videos on my collection…..

Hi, thanks for watching. I for one would be very interested in seeing vids from you with albums like that. I'm sure many other would. I've heard many stories from years back of super rarities being had for 50p and multiple copies clogging up bargain bins in the late 70s. Even in the 90s when I started being a serious collector, these were a lot cheaper than they are now. Very different times as you say. They do sell at these high prices nowadays.

No worries, thanks for watching. The albums Men in Black and La Folie are also great. I also recommend a B-Sides compilation called Off The Beaten Track.

Thanks for sharing this trip. I once tried to trade in a few items at Alan's.. he gestured airily around the shop and said something like "Does it look to you like I need any more records?" Proper Basil Fawlty stuff 😎

Shame you couldn’t get any in store footage but never mind you grabbed some sweet records. Incredible hog!!! Been on my radar for years, I’m holding off until I find a UK copy but I think I might give in soon 😅 👍👍👍👍👍
@georgeprior-vinylshowtell49345 ай бұрын
Thanks Martin. Oddly, I'd never heard of Incredible Hog until fairly recently when Dillon at Noble Records showed it. If you feel the urge to give in, Rise Above still had a German copy sitting in the racks along with the French one I had.

George, thanks for the tip on Nucleus! “Incredible Hog” wow, one of the greatest album covers of all time😮 Looks very cold in London today? Freezing in Los Angeles but sunny:)

Raining on and off in London when filmed yesterday, not great! Nucleus are great, a pretty sizeable back catalogue.

The Swedish band Solarplexus released 5 albums. The first one is the one in your film. The bass player is George Wadenius, after this album he went to America and joined Blood Sweat & Tears and played guitar on some albums. Later he became a session player and toured with Simon and Garfunkel, Steely Dan and more, he plays guitar on Donald Dagens second soloalbum.....
@georgeprior-vinylshowtell49345 ай бұрын
I did not realise they had more records than this. Thank you for this information 🙂
@stigisaksson23615 ай бұрын
@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934 from the second album there was more vocals. The lead singer was Tommy Körberg who later starred in the Chess musical by Björn and Benny from Abba. The following records i think only got Swedish release. Before Solarplexus Wadenius had a prog-rock band with bandmates from Solarplexus, the name was Made in Sweden.

I remember that being very much the in thing in the late 80s, early 90s. Too young to drink myself then, my Dad used to enjoy L&L for a few years. I was probably allowed a half or two at Christmas 🎄

Hi George , I kept looking out for me on my bike going past 😉 , very near where I live and shop ! Alan I ‘ ve been visiting for years , he s a great guy , it’s a very tight / small shop as you know and he doesn’t have much online presence , but his prices are really good . I headed to a really good record fair in Leyton today so cycled past both shops , the fair was very good , I picked The debut album by Fireballett , fairly obscure US prog band . There are 3 good record shops in Crouch End which is easy to get to from Highgate about a mile away but it sounds like you might have spent enough 😊
@georgeprior-vinylshowtell49345 ай бұрын
Hi Graham - what a nice area to reside in. Having those shops on your doorstep is a bit of a bonus as well! What are the Crouch End shops called, as I may visit in the future? I was toying with looking for the market stall in Archway we discussed, but money and the rain stopped that idea happening. Will have a look at Fireballett.

Hi George , look for Flashback Crouch End , Audio Gold and probably best for you The Little Record Shop , all really good

Very nice buys. Like you say those later Nucleus lps go for more than the early ones now. Glad I got mine when they were still in the tenner region. NB I was just looking at Galactic Ramble recently and read that a few copies of Roots sneaked out on UK swirl. Gnidrolog 1st is an odd record...very eclectic. I prefer Lady Lake as a more structured prog lp. Cheers Nige
@georgeprior-vinylshowtell49345 ай бұрын
Hi Nige, many thanks. I was not aware about Nucleus Roots on the Swirl. I bet that would fetch a bit if it turns up. I do regret not buying more late Nucleus years ago when cheaper, but there we go - still a decent deal on Alley Cat even by today's prices.
