I have watched each episode till now. I love your relaxed approach to touring and your great commentary. Frank is a bloody legend. I think he has said 5 words so far and even those he had his mouth full of food. Great work.

We have enjoyed watching these eight episodes so much. We really admire your cycling progress and how you have dealt with all the challenges, including mechanical issues, access to campsites and hotels etc. It gives a very real flavour so what a trip like this involves. These videos are beautifully filmed, and I could listen to your lovely voice forever! We are English and currently on a cycling holiday in the Netherlands. You have given us inspiration! 🏕️🚴‍♀️🚴🍻⛰️🌧️☀️🌊😍

Another lovely video. The scenery was stunning but looked challenging at times. Your use of maps really helps to know where you've been. Looking forward to future episodes.

Thanks Colin! Yes there were two hilly sections in this episode, but they weren't terrible. I'm very much a map person, so we must be alike that way.

Just found your cycling videos, very inspiring indeed. They are the best cycling videos for me. Not just nice shots of scenery but also give info along the routes, not too much actually. Thanks for sharing how the world is.

Oh dear - sorry if you were concerned! All is well and glad you enjoyed the video. I knew there would be a long break before this one came out and I tried to give viewers a heads up. But not everyone would have seen the note I put in the last video description, or the update I posted on my channel page. The next one shouldn't take so long!

What an amazing ride and excellent videos! I had discovered the Alpe Adria Tour on a website a few weeks ago and was looking for more information and found your videos. They convinced me that I have to do it and booked a cycling tour holiday on the 7th. Today I'm on a train from Berlin (where I live) to Salzburg to start the tour tomorrow! Thank you for the great videos and inspiration :)

Oh yes it did! Well beyond that on the way into Italy with so many tunnels. It was so good to recognise places turn your videos and knowing I was going the right way as I kept going the wrong way even with satnav. Am now looking at doing the Munich to Venice route this year but again with an organised hotels tour as I've not the confidence to do the ad-hoc camping on my own. Though it does look so cool to set your own tempo rather than on a set schedule.... One day ;)

You're right - we really did have a blast! And my Kona Sutra has served me well, although I know there are quite a few other good suitable touring bikes out there. If you do plan to ride our route or similar, I'm sure you'll love it!

Burg Hohenwerfen was used in the film "Where Eagles Dare" as the fortress "Schloss Adler". I go past it sometimes and can't help humming the films soundtrack....... silly I know. 🙂

Thanks for that bit of info Ivor - we would not have known that! Don't believe either of us have seen that movie. Although after looking it up, I see it featured a couple of fine actors - might have to track it down!

Hi Daphne and Frank, thanks so much for episode 8. I’ve been waiting patiently-well note really. I’ve been chomping at the bit 😃. As you know I’ll be following your route beginning this August 15 as I start in Amsterdam. A couple questions if you don’t mind. Were did you get your Maps? Did the maps show the campgrounds? Thanks so much. I love your videos. I can’t wait for the next one. Cheers, Mike Connor, Stoughton Wisconsin

Thanks Mike! I'm not sure which maps you're referring to - if it's the maps we used while riding that are mentioned in all the video descriptions, most of those are available through Amazon. The maps that I've used in the videos are often screen shots from various sources. For example, in this latest video #8, I've used online maps from the website mentioned in the description which I've called "another useful website". That has a great map on which you can choose different map styles (satellite, open street map, etc). We didn't have a map that showed campgrounds for EV15 down to Basel. But from Basel to Lake Constance and on to Passau on EV6 we had the Huber map set which does show campgrounds. The Bikeline book for Alpe Adria shows campgrounds. Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Great video again. And I have a question. I noticed the way you cook your own meals. I like to cook while camping, but you are another class. Any tips for cooking/receipes? 🇳🇱👍🚴‍♀️😁
@daphnebehindbars
@daphnebehindbars Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video. As for the cooking, the meals in camp are often simple adaptation of things we might cook at home - no real recipes that we follow. Often it's a matter of what's available in the supermarket. The ready prepared meals they have are often a great option, and we find salad kits (often complete with dressing) very convenient. Sometimes we buy a package of salad greens and add our own cucumber, red pepper, nuts (we always have a supply of nuts for snacks anyway), cucumber, chopped apple or pear. We do usually buy some olive oil and balsamic vinegar, as well as dried pasta, a small jar of pesto to keep in our panniers. I also try to remember to pack a small selection of herbs and spices in tiny containers to bring from home. Dill, currry powder and italian herbs are a few our favourites for multi purposes, as well as salt and pepper). A piece of fish (with dill) is pretty easy to cook in camp, maybe with some pasta, add a bit of pesto. Sauted onions, mushrooms and peppers can be added to your pasta and pesto. Another idea is to buy a small jar of thai curry paste and add a bit of that to cooked chicken, peppers and zucchini (courgette)plus a can of coconut milk. Have it with some naan bread or pita, or if you have a second pot, cook a bit of basmati rice (that cooks fairly fast) or minute rice.

Fantastic video. I really appreciate the use of maps to illustrate the route. I'm curious what the contingency plan is for rear wheel flats or other hard to fix bicyclec maintenance issues?
@daphnebehindbars
@daphnebehindbars Жыл бұрын
I'm very much a map person myself and need to know where a place is when I watch videos - it seems I'm not alone. Frank is very handy with bike repairs so he can take the rear wheel off no problem. We travel with a good tool kit plus extra tubes and a patch kit.
