I don't live in Northampton now, moved away 30 years ago,but l was a keen train spotter as a lad, regularly going to Blisworth on the Blizzy Flyer every Saturday,it cost 6p return. This guys enthusiasm for all what has gone, and still is around, fills me with nostalgia.Keep the video's coming.

A fabulous tribute to Northampton's fascinating railways. Inspired me to re-watch my old DVD "Routes from Northampton" - what Purple's Railway Adventures would have filmed in the 1960's? Movie shows BR steam passenger and freight trains around Bridge Street and Castle stations, plus on Northampton shed. The Bedford and Peterborough lines are also covered, the latter including footage from the train window of a Wellingborough to Northampton service. Apparently, the journey only took around 13 minutes and what strikes you is how rural it once was. All that changed in the 1980's with the building of the A45 dual carriageway and the large warehouses, etc that have sprung up in its wake. At the end there is some gut-wrenching film of steam locos being broken up at Cohens of Kettering. For those interested, the Cinerail DVD still seems to be available for not very much money from the videoscene website.

its a point clip you found by the tree used for securing points so they cannot be moved...there would be a scotch aswell somewhere nearby...a wedge of wood that would go in the opposite side to the clip.

Oh ok, Jamie thought it was to do with the points. Thank you

Work at Brackmills and pads that old bridge daily. So interesting to see from the top of it and the connected lines...

When you rejoined the Northampton to Bedford trackbed at around 18:30, if you headed back towards the level crossing there's a large industrial unit on the right hand side of the trackbed that had (and probably still does) rails concreted in. The unit was called Hammer Steel. I don't think you can gain access to see as the yard compound has been extended on the sight of a run-round loop.

This is my favourite. I've even taking a few friends around for tours. Tonight's episode shows both lines in-between showing the trains we saw yesterday.

That set of points at 7:00 look like catch points (or trap points), used to derail trains to prevent them from entering a mainline from a siding, or in this case more likely as a safety measure for the road just beyond. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch_points

Ah ok that's something I didn't know

yep, definitely trap points. the little box he was playing with just before was a treadle which would have tripped the crossing lights. @@PurpleandCoRailwayAdventures
