A new zoning-code change in Brook Park is the latest in a series of local attempts to fight the car-wash boom. It's a response to big changes in the industry.

It always troubles me when governments get involved business decisions. They always seem to have their own “vision” of how their town should look, even when the citizens feel otherwise (not by their votes, but by their decisions to USE the businesses). Often a business with connections within the government will get laws passed that limits competition as a way to maximize profits. This has happened in nursing homes, where a new facility has to show “need” to the state for another nursing home. This way, poor quality nursing homes can stay in business because they have the bed certificates from the state, and entrepreneurs cannot come in and build competing nursing homes to offer better quality and price.

People don't realize those plastic brushes leave minute scrathes on your windows, especially your windshield. They're not noticeable until you drive into the diect sunlight in your face. I haven't used a car wash in years, all my windows are fine.

What about all of the ride sharing people? Time is money. *EDIT* What about all the people who live in apartments or something similar that does not have the means to wash their vehicles by hand? Elderly and disable people?

I've noticed several new car wash businesses opening up , along with bank's. I guess the car wash owners, need a bank for their money.

I don't understand. The market drives demand. If there are too many, the worst will die. Does that butcher also serve 18,000 people? There aren't too many car washes until they start going out of business. There is something going on with this. That mayor looks total sketch...

The county that I lived in Wisconsin has 5 but, only 4 are working. It might be one more.

yikes! I must be so out of touch - I ALWAYS wash my own - in the driveway, enjoying the sun & tending to my car

In Germany, they made it illegal to wash your car on your own property. I thought that with all these car washes popping up, maybe the USA was heading in that direction as well....

Car washes popping up all over. Reminds me of the drugstore boom years ago.

🤔 Why would these local politicians care if there are more car washes that citizens can use. If there’s too many then the free market will take care of that. I’m thinking it’s something to do with these politicians being lobbied by these current owners or they have a tie to these existing car washes and they don’t want anymore. Always hold your public officials accountable. If they have any interest or tied to these car washes, this would be an abuse of power!

"You have to listen to your constituents", then put it on a ballot and let the people vote. My guess is "his constituents" (and large donor) are one of the existing car washes who don't want more competition.

So selective capitalism, so much for the "free market"
