Northern have pulled a Northern on the Buxton Line to Hazel Grove!

It does seem strange to have an electrified railway where the services are now diesel only, but when you take into account that this is because all the services on that line extend onto a railway that isn't electrified, then it makes perfect sense. brilliant video all the stations between Stockport & Hazel grove look lovely & its weard not seing the class 331s on this line now and it was handy having a direct link from Stockport to Preston but at least theres loads of trains to Picc and easy change there but anyway keep up the awesome work

Aug 2006,, visited Stockport while staying in Macclesfield over from NZ.. Hat Museum in St.port was fascinating.. impressive railway viaduct and a very...atmospheric... tour of the air raid tunnels.

Excellent video, Cyber! I like the start of the video getting straight to the point and the quicker outro worked well too. It's a pity that the line to Hazel Grove doesn't get any EMUs on its services now though!

And for those interested, now that the rote has gone Northern DMU, the services interact with each other so it goes Piccadilly-Hazel Grove-Piccadilly-Buxton-Piccadilly and repeat

Shame electric trains don't go to Hazel grove anymore, to be honest it would be nice to see the line electrified all the way to Buxton but who knows when that will happen if at all?

Great vlog Simon. They announced on the northern service this will shortly be arriving at Davenport while leaving Stockport lol. I’ve only been down this route onboard a fast TPE myself I would love to do the stations on this section at some point. Shame about the cancellation. The disappearing TPE that’s hilarious lol, weird how northern decided not to run any electric trains to hazel grove anymore seems like a waste of diesel trains in my eyes. Anyways I enjoyed watching as always.

Yeah, went there before the change over and don't get me wrong, it's nice seeing that the DMUs have taken over again but the 331s on that line are going to be a loss for sure

It's odd seeing an electrified line run solely with diesel units. It reminds me of MBTA's Boston to Providence commuter service in the USA, where they run F40PH-3C and HSP-46 diesels on part of the fully-electrified Northeast Corridor. The only electrics that use that line are Amtrak locomotives.

What's the point with the wires then if the line doesn't use EMU's?

It used to frequently have EMU’s. I used to travel to the Grove from Bolton on the Buxton train, but sometimes used to change at Piccadilly to change onto a 323 and if no Buxton to Bolton the 323 to Piccadilly and then Met to Radcliffe. This was back in 2001-2003 and 2008 and 2009.

Electrification always was a waste of time as it meant that the half hourly service to Whaley Bridge was cut back to Hazel Grove. As they are running diesels it's time to go back to the 1970s and give stations to Whaley Bridge a decent service. Progress over the last 50 years? Not really

Walk Is 28 minutes, by the time I did that... honestly no. Yes I would had beaten the next train but I just killed the time by taking a 'break' and had some food
