Wednesday morning drive along the Northern Ireland Coast; home to Game of Thrones filming locations, castles, sheep, whiskey distilleries, beaches and stunning views. Video starts in the small village of Ballycastle and passes by a number of these attractions on the way to to Portballintrae in Bushmills Northern Ireland part of the United Kingdom. The camera battery ran out so I missed the last 30 minutes driving into Portstewart. The Giants Causeway is the most well known attraction but it isn't accessible by car but you can see signs and the turn off for the parking lots. Game of Thrones is well known for filming throughout this area and Northern Ireland in general. Stunning landscape! What I also couldn't capture in the video is the castles along the coastal cliffs. Its about as picture perfect as it gets. When you visit, make sure to stop at all these castle ruins.
Starting Point: goo.gl/maps/cjfPhiURtjho9cBQ7 .
Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom that is variously described as a country, province, territory or region. Located in the northeast of the island of Ireland, Northern Ireland shares a border to the south and west with the Republic of Ireland. In 2011, its population was 1,810,863, constituting about 30% of the island's population and about 3% of the UK's population. The Northern Ireland Assembly (colloquially referred to as Stormont after its location), established by the Northern Ireland Act 1998, holds responsibility for a range of devolved policy matters, while other areas are reserved for the British government. Northern Ireland co-operates with the Republic of Ireland in several areas.

To anyone thinking of travelling this road please be aware that on a dry day especially at the weekend there would be at least 10 times the traffic that you see on this lovely video. Lots of cyclists and lots of fast moving motorcycles. I live here and travel these roads frequently so I’m just passing this on because it can get extremely busy. Thank you for the great video 👍

@pen25 not busy at all. I'm just back from here today and it's the first dry sunny day we have had in around six weeks and the roads wore fine at torr head, not busy, but just keep an eye out for motorcycles and sheep as both are in abundance and do be on the roads where you least expect them.

Thank you for posting this. I am returning to N. Ireland after 21 years this Spring with my wife and two kids and we plan to stay in Ballycastle for 4 nights exploring every nook, including Rathlin Island. Both kids have never been abroad and I am looking forward to showing them all of the Causeway Coast. Watching your video brought back great memories - the landscape is largely unchanged, which is why I love it there. Frozen in time and simply breathtaking scenery throughout! Again, thanks!

Beautiful country. You probably cannot imagine the contribution that the precision of the exact date would bring! To identify when the vegetation begins to wake up, situate the video in relation to weather archives... This is essential data, few people think about it. Just returned to US on Saturday after two weeks in Ireland. Started and finished in Dublin. Two nights in Belfast after going through this area. Was actually quite hot. Upper 20’s the entire trip. Minimal rain. Beautiful area. Enjoyed the “trip again” with this video. Never wore a jacket. Some rain in Belfast but was great otherwise. Drove about 1200 miles in the two weeks. Want to go back with less driving.

Thank you for taking the time to pull into a vista point parking lot where you can swing the camera around to take in most of the view. Beautiful drive. Now I understand why so many Irish moved to the North Coast of California. I love to follow your drives on Google Earth where the following points of interest along the way are noted: 7:29 right-hand turnoff to Kinbane Castle ruins 24:00 turnout overlooking Dunseverick Castle ruins 32:49 turn off from Main Street where Old Bushmills Distillery is just down the road Instead of using batteries, if you have a GoPro Hero camera I believe you can use a GoPro power adapter plug into the cigarette lighter/power point and run a cable to the camera for uninterrupted recording.

"Causeway Coastal Route" Is a relatively new name for this route its new title is actually " Causeway Coastal Route and Glens" the glens part has largely been forgotten about and deliberately so. We are all aware of the disappointments we hear from tourists and locals alike about their visits to the tourist attractions on this route i.e. The Giants Causeway - Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge that's about all that's on sale to the tourist. Now let me tell you what's for free if you follow the "Antrim Coast Road and Glens" route, you will visit a different beauty one with hills, streams, lanes and coasts ladened with history, folklore and bards to the acre. Here you will find Old Ireland unchanged in centuries pure as the waterfalls that feeds her glens spend hours days, even months maybe a lifetime here and you still won't have seen her all. Thank you for your film and an opportunity for me to let everyone know there is a majestic magic to endure just a few more steppingstones away " The Antrim Coast Road and Glens" there's no other like it.

This is a classic (typical) drive in Ireland. (I drove this route.) I don't think any Irish road was laid out for the views and I don't think anyone in Ireland ever considered tourism (but they're learning fast.) Unlike California where Disneyland seems like just a later edition of what probably started with the Native Peoples (but was erased) and was definitely picked up by the Spanish - all those (horrible but pretty) missions seemed designed for slave labor, postcards and selfies. This is not to belittle Ireland but to tell the potential visitor - pull over and look anytime and every time you even have the passing thought. It's beautiful and scenic but the locals are used to it and haven't gotten around to making a turnout with a Scenic View sign. It is and you should; there just won't be a sign. (Farther south I was looking for an iron age Dolman when I noticed a lump of bushes and rocks. In the States it would've been a pile of rocks pulled off a field or an overgrown car. I stopped and walked over. Sign said keep out, don't remove anything. It was an iron age site that was probably investigated years before and then left. So I poked around a bit took some photos of rocks and weeds, and then did what you should always do - look to the distance, where are the peaks, but more importantly - where are the passes (even through low hills). Yep, I spotted a couple more cairns. So it's not like the Irish never knew about tourism and views - clearly they used to be masters of it - guess it wasn't as important for the intervening 2000 years. I hiked to the Giant's Causeway from where I pitched my tent in Portballintrae (the sweet seaside town at the end). It was a bit of a convoluted hike, up through the neighborhood, skirt around the golf course, follow the narrow gauge rail tracks - all this to get to the bridge across Bush River, and that was only about a third of the way there. It's not really a path or a trail, it's sort of a melange that eventually gets you there. I'd do it again and I'd recommend it to anyone. Arriving at the Giant's Causeway makes it all worth it. I suggest going early in the morning so your photos aren't full of chubby tourists in fluorescent capri pants. They park at the top pay to go in the 'museum' and then ride a bus down the grade to the seaside. There's a town in China that I visited in 2000 - it had already become a tourist place - but I got up very early in the morning and it could've been a hundred years before. That's generally a good rule. Always the earlier the better. Thanks for the video.
