The history around it is facinating. The old lighthouse near there fell into the sea ages ago. The old pilot station might be still there.

Thank you. The mines surprise a lot of people. The depth charge practise near Mud Island surprised me the most, I had expected that was all done offshore.

Thomas Welsby's written account of Moreton Bay and her ship wrecks is most interesting read - highly recommended. Cheers

@@weFishAU Thomas Welsby was a founding member of the Queensland Historical Society, you won't find any of Welsby's books on a store shelf anywhere. They were last published again about fifty year ago. You might try the internet. His original collection can be found at Newstead House located in the park on the City side of Breakfast Creek. He writes about life, fishing and ship wreck of Morton Bay from the mid ninth century. Moreton Bay and surrounds have a number of places named after him eg. Welsby Parade on Bribie Island. Cheers

Thank you. I didn't know who he was but I had expected to find a published work. I will try the internet and see what I can find. Although I have always been a voracious reader I often wonder how I managed before the internet came along.

@@weFishAU I just checked Thomas Welsby on Wikipedia where they list his published titles. His ship wreck accounts are most interesting. For something like forty years he visited each Moreton Bay ship wreck within twenty-four hours of loss. Welsby is one of Queensland's greats. Cheers

I've gust been reading it too. There are a lot of references to him but I haven't come across any of his books online yet. Still plenty of places to search though.
