Hello, North, it's Sam. Thank you for reading the story and yes, I did have that "stepped on my grave" feeling. Writing this story and having you read it was actually very therapeutic. As for my thoughts on the debate, I do believe in principal that there are certain people who truly have no legit business having a firearm such as Sarevok. Be that as it may, laws can only do so much to stop guns from getting into the wrong hands which is why I support gun rights to make sure everyday citizens can defend ourselves from a Sarevok.

Open carrying a pistol is entirely normal in large swaths of the United States. Arguments for both open and concealed carry exist, but I’d argue that it’s better if an erratic individual is carrying openly rather than concealed because at least you know he’s armed. A lot of erratic people could carry concealed without you ever knowing. Also we don’t know the full details of his case and we should not speculate on motivation. A lot of good self-defense shoots do look bad at first glance. Let the courts settle it. I still believe in the presumption of innocence.

Love your take, North. As an American it’s nice to see someone from the outside take a more nuanced stance on the gun debate. I think gun violence, like any other violence, is a mostly cultural issue. I’ll never trade my gun rights for the illusion of safety from the state. Personally, I think most anti-gun rhetoric is born of either ignorance or resentment of those who have the privilege of owning them. Firearms ownership demands responsibility and I think we should prioritize the re-modeling of our culture to accommodate it instead of rendering our people defenseless. The ability for a people to defend their self-interests is what separates citizens from subjects. We don’t expect foreigners to understand. Actual Americans don’t care either way.

It is the fundamental right and duty of the American citizen to own a firearm - be that for defense, leisure, or militia membership. Not everyone must take up this duty, and it is the responsibility of the bearer and those around them to assess their suitability to continue to carry and use firearms. TL;DR anyone can own a gun, however not everyone *should*

How will you protect yourself and our son?” She just didn’t have anything to say. Then make the psych evaluation an annual thing every five years.
@Dram19843 күн бұрын
@@Dominik189 I’d be okay with something along those lines. Similar to how some states do it here with “shall issue” laws, which basically means the state has to issue the permit unless they can show reason not to, but usually they also have pretty lax requirements like just a couple hour class, no criminal record, etc… the other way states do it is “may issue” which basically means you have to ask the state for permission and they basically always say no. The other issue in the US is that guns are so widely available there is basically no way at this point in time to stop bad people from getting a hold of one if they want so almost any barrier to buying one only really restricts law abiding people.

@@Dominik189i would argue that Lithuania has even better freedom loving gun laws then czechia but the weird law against autoloaders has no positive to it. I especially love about the Lithuanian gun laws that owning a full auto gun as a normal Lad isn't a unachievable or absurdly expensive. As a reservist who has done a certain number of weekend courses you can buy a new one directly from the manufacturer, in the US full auto guns are limited in number cuz of that law that was implemented in '86 and therefore cost at minimum as much as a new Car.
@Dominik1892 күн бұрын
@@fertblusbenis5128 the positive is that it makes autoloaders a bit harder to obtain for criminals. Though personally if I was writing such a law I would leave an exemption for hammer fired, single stack magazine autoloaders that have an manual safety and a capacity not exceeding 10 rounds. Reloading an autoloader is fast so the round count aint much of a hindrance. Though I believe tjat the speed and ease of reloading are the cited reasons why Lithuania has limited autoloaders. Probably in hopes of giving an edge to their police officers.

Hello North, catching this story a few days late, but I do have a few thoughts on Sam's story. I live in one of the most conservative and gun friendly states in America and personally own multiple firearms. While both Open and Concealed carry are legal in my state, a business is perfectly within it's right to prohibit someone carrying a weapon on their premises. But, in my opinion, if you feel like you need to open carry in a restaurant, game store, or theater... you're pretty cringe. Seriously, if there was a crazed gunman looking to do crazed gunman shit, he's probably going to neutralize the open carry guy 1st. Keep your weapon status on the downlow. Oh and it's NEVER allowed to carry in any manner while intoxicated so keep it out of the bar.

If a criminal wants a weapon then they'll find a way to get one. All gun control does is keep firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens. The only thing I see the US needs is stricter background checks on purchases. In many states you can go to purchase and walk out in less than 30min with a firearm without showing any type of proof of being a responsible gun owner( no classes, no experience, no registering the said weapon, no knowledge what so ever); just an ID with no felonies, and the money.

Since we’re being open and honest, I consider it dangerous and cowardly to surrender your ability to defend yourself. Being disarmed is not civilized. It’s naive. We demand freedom and accept the responsibility that comes with it. Or at least some of us do. You should also know that most of the U.S. is not full of anarchy and people shooting each other. The places with the worst gun violence in this country are those with the strictest gun laws. I have a lot of respect and admiration for the British isles as I owe much of my nation’s cultural heritage to yours, but I deeply disagree with the direction you went on the right to arms. It used to be British common law that accepted freemen’s right to keep and bear arms. We inherited that belief from you. It was the British army troops seeking to confiscate our arms at Concord that first initiated hostilities in the Revolutionary War. The crown’s representatives sought to trample on a right Englishmen held sacrosanct and we resisted. I think it’s tragic that you gave that up.
