One of the best painters I ever met went to school for art. He also only bought primary colors from art stores and mixed all his own paints. He was both really good and really consistent.

Imagine asking the person who fills the veggie trays in ASDA about the intricate details of vegetable cultivation. OP is essentially doing this with these paints. It feels (even if unintentionally) like you're using your degree-level art knowledge to style on some minimum wage bloke working in the nerd shop.

I'll be honest...I nope'd out at the 30 min mark. I work in the tech industry and used to go on a couple of tech news site forums, usually frequented by people who are very experienced and qualified in IT. Now, whenever there was a story about PCWorld/Curry's, you'd always get the stories about how they went in and 'owned' the shop assistant at PCWorld, by asking a lot of technical questions, which the poor chud couldn't answer. In other words, skilled people who have spent years studying something, massaging their own ego's and boasting about their superiority over a person who sells white boxes, Monitors and USB sticks to confused shoppers for a living. The height of obnoxious twattery. I don't know how this story ends but if it isn't with a television news anchor, telling millions of people how a lady had several bottles of paint shoved down her throat by an irate shop assistant, then I'd say the lady had a lucky escape.

Lol, I'm just gonna say it. The first person (I assumed in a hour long video there would be more than 1 story, pretty sure this only strengthens my point..) is painful even though they tried to make out that they are not. Sue me.

Just for the hypothetical, assuming someone who looks confused doesn’t know much about the subject and starting the conversation on that assumption isn’t in of itself bad.

Interesting to hear about the art =/= good mini painting take. I can only speak for my anecdotal experience but every single person I know who has studied art and is a good 2D artist who has got into the hobby as an adult and has watched a few youtube tutorials has painted some excellent stuff. Not Golden Demon, but certainly "Games Workshop window" standard or better for their literal first minis. I believe a significant number of the "my first mini" posts that people mock on reddit for looking like hot stuff are from people in this situation. Personally my favourite paints are the Army Painter squeezy bottles.

If you're traveling this much for paints, consider just buying them blind online. You'll probably break even and have extra paints for future projects. Also note that if you're really fond of a particular colour, you might want to get a couple pots as sometimes the recipe changes, which slightly changes the colour.

Just a point on the colour mixing of paints, it's not strictly true when it comes to multi pigment paints, which can end up looking muddy and produce unexpected tones and hues when mixed. If you're combining paints to achieve a specific colour, they really should specifically be single pigment paints.

I wanted to turn the video off at the 10 minute mark because the OP sounds severely insufferable but because I was tied up I just endured it. This story blows, and Im happy to see others agree. Nothing wrong with Norf reading, but OP sounds less enjoyable than a root canal.

Citadel paints suck. IDGAF if anyone is mad about that. Exceptions where they apply of course. A few of the new Contrasts are handy.

I like Abaddon Black, Retributor Armor / Wraithbone with a little Agrax Earthshade, Leadbelcher, Cadian Fleshtone with a little Reikland Fleshshade skin and Gulliman Flesh hair. Seems like a wet brush is enough thinning for the rest as Mephiston Red and White Scar coverage is terrible otherwise.

Nihalek Oxide (however the spelling goes). None of their competitors have managed to do a good substitute for that verdegris technical effect paint.

Citadel paints are great. But my favorite brand is Vallejo.

The pots suck, the paints are perfectly fine. The only reason to hate on the actual paints is just to be a hater. I use 4-5 brands of paint, citadel is no worse than any of them.

While I enjoy these stories a lot, sometimes North says the dumbest things(And I mean that endearingly) about a person’s intentions when it comes to gesticulation. As a person who likes to talk with his hands, I can assure you it usually doesn’t have anything to do with wanting sex- I’m just trying to convey a point I’m making… or I’m at work and I’m making a sale.. so I guess it’s the same purpose actually 😂.

I briefly spent some time a a key timer in the 90"s. Even then and being quite young a naive I could see the tunnel vision attitude expected from you. It was horrendous and needless to say I didn't last long. Funnily enough it wasn't long after that I stopped playing and too a 20 year break from the hobby.

I’m 26mins in and I’m on the side of the GW guy at this point 😂…..I don’t need the Silmarillion levels of detail about this…. …..this could have been 10mins max….. ….this person seems a tad insufferable and they need to learn to edit themselves down by about 90%.
