My favorite chess bit is NL saying “ah yes, the (insert opening here). Perhaps you’re familiar with it?” Never gets old. AND I MEAN THAT SINCERELY

In 7:56 your opponent missed Qa4+ which wins a knight. The point of this opening is to set up this trap and they missed the main part.

I mean, certainly no harm in voicing the things you enjoy as a vote to see more of them. And I always really enjoy the analysis as well! But at the same time, NL has said he got a bit burned out last time around, and it seems like the focus on winning, getting ELO, analyzing games, etc was part of that. I have to imagine that chess is one of the more difficult games to “narrate” as you play, and also one of the most obnoxious when it comes to armchair analysts in the comments.
@NorthernlionLP
@NorthernlionLP Жыл бұрын
@@LikeACosmicGumbo the backseaters can be silenced by the game reviews tho. so many "you could've done this, you could've done that" comments could be avoided
@LikeACosmicGumbo
@LikeACosmicGumbo Жыл бұрын
@@NorthernlionLP 1) I disagree that most backseaters would eat their humble pie even if it was served to them. Some would! But I don't agree that they would be silenced. But more germane to this discussion: 2) the backseaters are usually RIGHT that NL made blunders. He's better at chess than I'll ever be, but he's at an ELO where "obvious" mistakes are going to be made in most games, especially under 3 minute time controls (and especially under the added constraint of being a content creator rather than just a chess player). And again, I trust that you are like me - you like learning from the game reviews when they happen, and you aren't in it for the schadenfreude. But enough people clearly are, based on the myriad of commenters who just want to seem smarter than the successful streamer every video. At the end of the day, of course you're entitled to want what you want and enjoy what you enjoy. But it seems clear to me that chess is only tenuously hanging on as something NL is even willing to dedicate time to, and he has spoken pretty directly to not (generally) enjoying going through the reviews as part of it.
