It's funny how Joe is such a Gunsmoke fan and the steer's name is Festus. When the new baby arrives, Chester if it's a boy and Kitty if it's a girl. Glad that's settled. 🐮

I don't know if you all have rats and mice. If you do, you might want to get an airtight barrel for the feed. They love some horse and cow feed; what they don't eat they crap all in it. When they get started you cannot get rid of them. Good luck, love your new cow, she looks a little Bossie 😊

Melissa’s Milking Parlor is coming along 👍😃. That chain on the back wall rubs her face the whole time she’s eating. Moving it to the right 8” sure would make it easier on her face. She seems like a really good girl. On that side board on the right … you could make it removable so she could just circle right on out. You know like the way they do cabin doors on the inside to keep bears out. I think you just screw a block to the post then screw a little longer piece onto that block. Then drop your board in. 👍. I’m so excited about Duck Camp ⛺️ 🦆. It’s always my favorite movie that you do. Love your Dad’s stories.

You know what? It might not work, but it just might. Brilliant idea on a possible removable stanchion side 2x6. I will look into that tomorrow. Awesome idea. Thank you.

@@NorthernSeclusion You’re welcome Joe. I tried to explain it the best I could. I’ve had a stroke and my thoughts are hard to put into words sometimes. I have no experience using a stanchion. Definitely recommend some air tight barrels to keep your feed in. It’ll keep bugs from getting in your corn and keep mice from chewing holes in your bags. Most feed stores carry them. It only takes one time for a mouse to chew a bunch of holes in your bags and leak corn all over the ground and ruin your morning lol. Great video!

Looks like you need to run a water line underground to a hydrant for watering, Joe. You can take a plastic 55 gallon drum and cut it long way and fix it to the fence. Get some of the one inch thick rubber that they sell at TSC so she has a comfy walk and stand on.

The cows will need a trace mineral block if you haven't provided them one? Tractor Supply usually carries them if you have one in your area. Any Feed store should have them.

@NorthernSeclusionАй бұрын
Their hay bale is 75% alfalfa. She gets grain at milking, we do not want a "grass fed cow." I do believe that the new feed I picked up does have some alfalfa pellets in it, along with everything else they need to live a proper life.

Joe some advice don’t put the cow food out the night before or before the evening milking do it after she is in the stall for milking that way it’s incentive for her to do the right thing going in let her see you reward her for it. Milking cows are very smart in that way. Secondly have everything sterilised before you bring her in. Thirdly keep it very very simple for her pick a way to do the milking and stick to it she will pick up on the routine very very quickly.

Well I only wish I had a tiny part of your energy , but I am 73 so don't reckon that will happen, as far as your stantion , you should be able to find one up there I would think .
