I’m seeing this video pretty late, but in my 12x16’ shed I have the whole unit inside with the exhaust running through the floor. Except for the initial start up it’s never given off any smells. Just FYI for anyone interested. Keep up the good work!

Joe , I follow Simple Alaska living and they just put a diesel heater for their chickens. He also ran one filor his dogs in the back of his truck. I have no doubt this will work for you and Melissa. I have followed you for a long time...congrats on 100 thousand.😊

Joe, it makes perfect scence to recycle the inside air that is already heated that way you could run it at a lower setting and save fuel. I would extend the exhaust away from the door just in case the door gets opened. If you have time Simple Living Alaska have a story about installing a small diesl heater in there chicken coop that might be perfect for the out house. Love all your video's and life there is so different from here in Australia where summer is coming. I'll be in Japan for Christmas so I might get my first white Christmas ever. Enjoy the ice fishing. I live in a subdivision which I absolutely hate that’s why I watch all these shows I just would love to put myself out there but again, thank you for all the videos that you put out. I come from an HVAC background and your idea about pulling the air from inside the tent will work exactly like you think it will. I agree with you on the idea. The system will run less and use even less fuel.

Great review Joe !!! When I first saw Zach’s heater , I thought that’s neat. I looked it up again when you started talking about it and now you have me wanting 6 of them. When you use it in the fish house run the exhaust up with a extra pipe. Get it above the camper and you should be good. Just a thought. Great job on all the videos.

I've been thinking about one since I saw Zach's video. Then I was watching Simple living Alaska and he has 3 of them. I just ordered one just like Yours . A few years ago I had one that was factory installed in my truck sleeper and I loved it. I would suggest wrapping the exhaust pipe with muffler tape incase one of the dogs get to close or something like leaves were to get to close. Great video.

I'm pretty impressed with this idea! I would like to try this with my water supply. In deer season our water storage room.Tired of thawing out the lines. And I agree with the " Chinese " comments . You are absolutely right . Everything we buy .mechanical. is built offshore. Great video.. I know you can't, but I wish you put out a video everyday.

So far, I'm liking the stuff you are trying out on the channel. It fits in with the things you are doing and we are all curious about it. I've bought a power source and have been thinking about getting a diesel heater, both are very handy to have in case of power outages and using outdoors. I say keep doing it, you aren't going to put something on your channel that isn't useful and we get to learn about a cool new product. : )

I just looked at my ammo and I found 4 full metal jacked bullet in 1 box . I haven't had that gun out shotting cents 1986. I am happy I did not take them out of the house because tomorrow is opening day for deer.

I can't remember which channel it was, but I have seen videos of a guy that heated his rather big family home in Sweden in the winter with two or three of these heaters, but the smaller type with a separate diesel tank. He too put them in an enclosure outside but connected to a larger fuel tank. They burned all winter without a problem although I think he made sure to always have spare fuelpumps around. I saw these videos a few years ago, so I am not a 100% sure I got that fully correct. The only problem I see with these heaters connected to batteries is protecting the batteries against low temperatures and making sure the battery stays charged enough. If you bring the battery with you put it inside the tent it will be fine, as long as you transport the battery inside the cab of your car and not in the bed of you truck. For on grid use a transformer to 12V should do the trick like you said.

The reason I (and others) wondered if your fuel would gel, is because it's most likely we live in areas that don't get as cold as you do. e.g. I'm In Manchester, UK and while it does snow every year, it's never has been or going to get to -5F, never mind -30F. (Thanks for mentioning me on the video - I was a bit surprised)

Great video. Joe, we burn our Silvel heater very often. We started burning a 25\75 kerosene \diesel mix and it seems to burn much cleaner and the tank of.fuel lasts longer it seems.

I know a few people that use the diesel heaters and love them. Just my preference is going with a vented propane wall heater. Quiet and puts out the BTUs. Less chance of a mess with the fuel.

That is a good way to go, it is just so much more expensive to run propane vs these diesel heaters. The no fuel mess though using propane is nice.

Hello joe, I just watched your video on the heater. I too recently purchased one similar but a different brand. I'm thinking of mounting mine outside of a window at my cabin, my idea is to cut a piece of 3ply that would fit in the window and drilling out a hole for the hot air duct and cutting the metal grate in back where the cold air intake is and installing a piece of dryer duct to the 3ply as well so the air from inside the cabin is recirculated. To see how that works.

I'm in upstate NY. Our gas stations have "white Kero" It is road tax free and can be run in a house oil furnace . People including myself use it in those pot belly kero heaters made for inside your homes. Our heating oil companies change over to straight kero in the late fall into spring so it doesn't jell outside in the tank. I'm not sure how it works at -30 but we get sadly down to -10 . Locally, I don't think they put anti jell in the diesel road fuel .

I would also suggest that if you extend the exhaust to make the extension a bigger diameter pipe. It's designed to run on that size pipe for the two foot that it is. If you use the same size pipe it will create drag because of friction and the heater may not have the power to push the fumes a longer distance .

The way you wanna route, it’s just like we do on the semi trucks. It’s really no different. The only difference is is the exhaust. You can make that tubing longer or rout it in a way to where it doesn’t blow into the intake if it was outside like you have it currently.

Hey Joe, It is much better and less complicated having the heater inside. Run the exhaust outside, use slip off coupler, the battery stays warm or get an AC to DC 12V converter (this eliminates the battery all together) the heater will last longer being out of the weather You're heating warm air, so it runs more efficient. Its a win win and no brainer to bring it inside.... And I do know what I am talking about...

Hey Joe- i’m just commenting on the diesel heater… Just wondering if you could retrofit an old ice chest cooler… You could put your battery in it as well as the heater… And still be portable, and it would be insulated and protected from the outside weather… Just a thought.

One plus of having the conditioned air coming from the outside instead of the inside is it creates a positive pressure inside the tent. So any spot that may let cold air leak in (around doors/windows etc) will have warm air blowing out of it when that diesel heater is on and blowing.

A lot of over road trucks have similar heater (look like a torpedo). Mounted under the bunk. With the exhaust tube venting outside. It pumps fuel from the trucks tanks. There is no diesel smell, and have the same start-up ticking sound. I like to put one in my horse trailer.

The fresh air intake I think has to do with air pressure in your tent, if you put it all coming from inside you will notice air around your doors or other air gaps increase , I had this happen to me on pellet stove, I now draw fresh air from outside but my fitting is loose on the inside so I kind of get combination of the inside and outside air

Would the air intake being up in the air at 6 feet or so work better? That way you can keep it outside and more portable. No more holes in the tent. Exhaust and carbon monoxide is heavier than air and will stay and settle at the lowest point. An extension on the exhaust is brilliant!

Looked it up, the operating temp range is +50C - -40C. You should be ok at the tent. Fish house, not sure if you would be out at -40

Are you putting a metal sleeve through the tent wall for the air in/out tubing to connect to ? And is there a good solid way you can cap it while it is disconnected. Would you consider putting the intake up at the 6 foot level, since warm air rises. Put the battery inside and run the wire out to the heater.

I watch alot of vanlife channels and these diesel heaters are very popular. I have heard that some of the Chinese cheap heaters throw an error code (E5 I think) and people are saying they take the metal cover off the heater to create more air flow around the components and then it runs fine.... Also, they find if you run them on high they tend to burn cleaner and less carbon(?) build up.

Real good review! Honest and reviewed from your application (or intended application). If I may, one comment from my experience. Before we had power at our cabin we used a generator. Biggest improvement I did was to extend the engine exhaust up above the roof level. No exhaust fumes outside (and eliminated some of the noise). Now a off subject question, what kind of camera(s) do you use, any recommendations? Thanks and keep us up to date on your experience!

Use heating oil as it doesn't have any bio in it like off road

Fill it and run it . When you add fuel use a measures amount so you'll know exactly how much you used . Then figure out you hours per gallon

I think its a great idea for you to start testing products. Your a NO BS kind of guy, and will actually tell us what you think, and not just sell out like others do for a couple extra dollars. Any plans on putting some mesh across the intake and heat pipe if they are both in the tent? I bet burnt squirrel ( if they are still getting into the tent) will smell worse than diesel fumes!!!! LOL
