$1,300! That is stupid expensive! Dental work is the biggest scam! It's sad because so many people suffer every single day because they cannot afford to go and get their teeth fixed. Like myself, I wake up every single day in pain, constant infections in my mouth because I need six teeth fixed. I have a horrible cracked filling on my upper front tooth that constantly leaks bacterial fluid. Causes horrible bad breath. Dentistry needs to be made way more affordable for better options. Otherwise people suffer more everyday from an unhealthy mouth than they suffer from anything else. Those people, including myself, would love to be able to not be in pain everyday but we can't afford it.😢 No wonder people risk their lives going over the border to Tijuana to have dental procedures done. Because you're getting the same level of care at more than half the cost in America. Honestly, shame on dentistry in America.

Always save the original tooth if possible, so my dental surgeon of 30 years says. You don't pull teeth if they can be saved. Implants also do fail sometimes, and when they do there is often irreversible bone loss. You also pointed out the cost difference. I had a root canal and a zirconium crown 20 years ago still going good. My dentist checks it every year. Crown is still strong and no pain or infection.

It’s not always the dentist not doing a good seal that causes a cavity to spread. As a dentist I have seen very old fillings get new cavities that go underneath the filling that already existed by a new entry point. If a patient had a cavity on one tooth it is very likely in the future one day they get a cavity again, same bad oral hygiene habits continue even with repeated instructions on how to make their oral hygiene better. You can see that patient also has very high risk of cavities as each tooth has had large amalgam fillings realized extending 1.5 mm in depth.

With this tooth, the upper second molar, we are looking at a bite wing xray, meaning we can't see the root of this tooth. An implant in this area usually requires sinus lift of some sort to build up the bone volume. Therefore there may be additional procedure for sinus lift costing thousands of dollars which these guys have not touched upon. Whenever possible keep your teeth and avoid extraction.

Just great 😥 I have to have an upper molar extracted as I had 3 root canals done and now have an infection and bone loss. The lower 2 molars had already been extracted, so not only would I need a bone graft but a sinus lift in top of needing at least 2 implants to be able to chew on that side of my mouth. I'm doomed to get dentures in the future, I'm 62 and the idea of using dentures grosses me out.
@donjose6520 Жыл бұрын
@Debra Anderson There are now options to wearing dentures. In an edentuless arch, meaning no teeth at all, you can have the option of placing 2 implants and use those as anchors for a slim down small denture which snap on to the 2 implants like snap on buttons, called locators. This only requires 2 implants. With 4 implants you can get a hybrid bridge screwed on these 4 implants and functions like your own teeth. The bridge is made of zirconium, a very hard man made ceramic like material. This is a lot pricier but it is a very good choice. Talk it over with your dentist or prosthedontist . Sometimes it is not worth your money to try and save hopeless teeth . Spend your money wisely.

Experience has caused me to question whether root canals should be done at all. The justification is saving teeth that would other be extracted. But root canal teeth usually spread a low-grade infection even when all the pain has been removed. Root canal teeth are frequently the source of bad bugs which cause deep pockets and periodontal disease. Sometimes the teeth simply break apart and become abscessed even though the root canal was supposed to prevent this result.

The problem with dental work in America is insurance doesn't cover enough. People can't afford the best option. Also sedation should be covered by insurance as many of these procedures are traumatic. And what about failed fixes? For example I paid a fortune for a root canal and crown, which later failed and I had to just have the tooth pulled and leave a gap because I can't afford an implant. With the out of pocket cost these should be guaranteed procedures or the fix is free. How bout this .. I had dentist do a crown, and then a year later they said there was a cavity under the crown. That's on the dentist not me. But now I get to pay to pull off the crown fix the cavity and pay for a new crown. I once tried to get all my teeth pulled and just get dentures.....save on the anxiety and having to constantly get repairs to repairs. They said no of course because how could dentists make so much money if you could just get them all pulled and be done with it.

yes you're talking about some major issues. dental insurance isnt really insurance. its a benefits plan. in regards to the work, you're right. there are a lot of dentists out there who do poor work and wont guarantee their work. finding somebody good is a challenge unfortunately. however this is a problem with every industry whether a veterinarian, md, car mechanic, etc.

its funny- when I get a new set of tires and then run over a nail the next day, I usually go back to mavis and demand a new tire because I broke the old one. Do other people do that? No? Teeth are used to chew food. People bite pencils, chew ice, have gum, chew anything and everything. Dentistry is great in 2022 but there are no guarantees for something that takes so much abuse. If you are lucky enough to get a kidney transplant and your body rejects it, do you ask for a refund? Didn't think so. Insurance companies are in business to make money. Not pay claims. They take in as much as possible and pay out as little as possible. Thats why they dont cover "enough". While medical insurance is an absolute necessity, keep your money an pass on dental insurance and pay out of pocket. Everyone benefits that way. Thats my two cents.

The distal decay was likely from a food trap between this tooth and the wisdom tooth that has been removed. The mesial half of this tooth is good and the bone level is also good. I would recommend saving this tooth. Long term prognosis for this tooth is fair.
@MaverickDMD Жыл бұрын
Jesus guys - just keep this simple. Do your deep DOVL fill, place a CaOH liner over the deep stuff - avoid a mechanical pulp exposure - and move on as it will likely settle the issue. Amalgam is a good choice here as there is no enamel to bond to on the distal. Obviously there was a big OL previously and this fill broke due to occlusion - look at the wide PDL on this tooth. The placement of a deep fill there will create its own crown lengthening effect in time. In the end, no RCT, no CL surgery and no crown. Patient copay zero.

When I moved to a different state, I started going to a dentist who said I needed 5 fillings on my teeth due to cavities. I decided to wait to go back home for winter break and saw my family dentist who said that only one was recommended as the rest were just baby cavities and should just be monitored. How can you tell when you actually need a filling and will those baby cavities always get worse or is there a chance they can be halted to repaired with the right toothpaste?

@Samlol23_drrich2 жыл бұрын
@@nanianderson4678 thats easy. The dentist who said you needed five crowns had a car payment due, and the dentist who said you only needed fillings- car is paid off. But seriously dentistry is subjective. One person treats small stuff, another has success waiting and having their patients use fluoride. If the decay isn't through the dentin you are ok waiting. Find someone good and conservative. Crown vs filling is a matter of expertise. If someone had been doing something successfully for 10 or 20 years I would go with the more conservative plan.

This year got an abscess around the tooth. Dentist again can’t see anything so sends me to the periodontist. She can’t see anything but think it’s the tooth. Finally I get sent for a 3d scan where we finally see the problem. Finally seeing if a root canal will be able to save the tooth. Hello, is it possible to prevent recurrent decay entirely with good oral hygiene? Or, even if there is no decay left behind initially and the seal is good, will a restoration eventually come loose and inevitably allow in bacteria, even with perfect hygiene?
@inquisitivenessandcontempl9918 Жыл бұрын
I'm not a dentist, but it seems that the restoration will get microleakeage at the margins. This brown staining at the margins of the old filling is probably it. That happens because resin composite is a polymer that is prone to shrinking 2 to 7%. Some shrinking happens initially when it's light-cured and more shrinking may happen with time. Also, dental hygiene, diet, etc. are important factors. For a white composite filling, it's usually 3 to 10 years when a filling may be guaranteed against secondary decay. An amalgam filling can last much longer because metal has some plasticity and created perfectly sealed margins. An inlay or onlay, which are indirect restorations, may also serve longer, 10 to 20 years because they are not prone to shrinking and the margins remained adequately sealed for longer periods of time. But good oral hygiene will certainly help to get the best mileage out of your fillings.

For a large cavity isn't Crown insert a better choice? And what about gold fillings for large cavities? The reason why I have three teeth missing is a 1980 my dentist told me the cavity was too large for amalgam filling it would have to be filled with gold and it was very expensive. I didn't have the money so I told him to pull the tooth. Then my work heard about me having to have my tooth pulled because I couldn't afford a gold filling so they got dental insurance for everybody at work. The dental insurance covered a bridge but that bridge had to go over two perfectly good teeth that they had to grind down to fit the bridge. 30 years later a funny taste was coming from underneath the bridge but the insurance company would not pay to have the bridge removed and dentist try to blame me for not brushing well. Got so bad I had to pull the bridge off myself by watching KZbin videos on how to string floss underneath it and pull off the bridge. That's why I seen one tooth was completely rotted down to the gum line and the other tooth was dead yellow. So now I lost two more teeth because of that bridge. I got a large amalgam filling that I want the dentist to replace but they want to replace it with a crown as they no longer do amalgam fillings and the new composite fillings will not be strong enough for the big cavity. But remembering from long ago that the dentist told me that a gold filling would fill the large cavity.

This was my case 4 weeks ago I had sensitivity to cold foods and the x-rays showed a big cavity but I had no pain. The dentist cleaned and said the nerve was visible and I needed a root canal. So what do you recomend in that case implant or root canal+crown?
@northtexasdentalsurgery2 жыл бұрын
they're both good options, provided that the implant is done well by somebody well qualified and same thing with the root canal

My root canel that I got 7 - 8 years ago has rotten away some of my gum around were the metal is now. I don't think it is neccessary in this case as she has a healthy tooth. But it is neccessary in most cases we're the cavity and bacteria has reached the tooth. You shouldn't out a crown on an infected tooth. If you don't want root canal at that point than extract tooth with bone graph and get a implant or bridge later.

Can you use Silver Diamine Flouride to treat the bacteria in the decay area and close it up with silver/'amalgam afterward to prevent future decay ??
@northtexasdentalsurgery Жыл бұрын
good question. I never heard of it
@sinnieleeonUtube Жыл бұрын
@@northtexasdentalsurgery From what I read Silver Diamine Flouride (SDF) is used on kids (pediatric) in the US but very few dentists knows about it or offer it to adults. Maybe because it leaves a dark stain on the decay BUT it will not stain the non-decayed area. Many countries use SDF to detect tooth decay. Another solution call Nano Silver Flouride (NSF) does the same thing (even better in studies) as SDF BUT will not leave any stain at all (it is in US clinical trial). SDF has been used in other countries for decades and was finally FDA Approved since 2014.
