I've just headed out for what hopefully is my first extended travel trip this year. Out of necessity, the first stop was a very popular free campsite in peak season! More interesting explorations to follow. My reference to "Northwest" is referring to Canada, not USA in this case. Enjoy!

Before I retired, when we visited the forest trails, I would often stop to feel the moss and bark of trees and try to imprint that memory in my mind. Then, when back at work I would try to recall that sensation. It was fleeting, however, and I yearned to return to nature for more. Now, retired, I'm fortunate enough to have a forest in my back yard. I still stop to enjoy, only more often now. Yea!

When i was a child, my best moments at home, from home was the grown over empty lots to see what was new. How high the pond or stream was, what animals had visited and even human activity you might not tell if you were just passing through. It was an adventure for interesting plants, a rock or maybe a tadpole.. i didnt keep them but liked scooping them up to get a closer look. I amazed at horsetail and a wild apple, along with wild black eyed susans. Plus the wild berries in season...strawberry, blackberry or maybe a blueberry.

I have figured that peoples idea of camping tranquility can simply be just different. 🤷‍♀️ Also, I giggle wondering if they are scratching their head at the sight of a tranquil seeker with a selfie stick, cameras and internet access pole. Different strokes, different folks. 🤷‍♀️And sometimes we can truly get left alone all by ourselves in whatever our tranquility ideal is. Sometimes we can’t. Always fun to keep trying! 😊

*Slim, you are a poet, an artist, and a romantic. I really enjoy these travel logs - and as usual, your one-man production crew is to be commended.* 13:50 Good call. It's definitely a verity of wild orchid. Orchids come in so many shapes and colors, from Snap-Dragons to Vanilla plant, it's hard to pin down the variety. They are so adaptable that it could even be a variety that only grows on the side of that particular mountain. The purple flower group is also an orchid of some sort. My Mom was an horticulturalist (had a degree and everything) and she would have been overjoyed with such a find. Legal or not, she wouldn't have been beyond pulling it up by the roots and planting it in the backyard garden, justifying it by saying she wasn't destroying the plant but helping it to propagate. Mountain Laurel was her worst offense. In the mountains of Virginia it is a protected species - didn't stop Mom, she had a garden specifically for wild Mountain Laurel.

Just got back from a multi-week trip up into the sierra nevada. Of coourse, with Covid messing up all other recreation opportunities, the campgrounds and the public lands are packed with people. We had to wander farther out to leave the crowds behind (easy in my rig, but that's why I invested into something more offroad worthy). Found a gorgeous spot close to a natural hot spring just around 9000ft which apparently few people knew about as we were mostly alone there. Many miles of dirt roads may have kept people away too. I think a lot of people don't enjoy the small things - the butterflies, the little flowers in the desert or that flock of birds. We spent hours watching the swallows over our heads and there were a bunch of other things at night we couldn't see more of than a shadow and hear some noises (some kind of night birds or bats), for that the stars were out in force being far away from any light pollution. I'm just doing some maintenance, restock, install better brakes for steep mountain passes and be out again in a few weeks.

Have been watching vlogs from the beginning, following a recommendation by UK KZbin narrowboat vloggers ‘Floating our boat’. I endorse all the positive comments, posted on all the vlogs so far by others, who, like me, get so much that is good from these. I don’t tend to post comments, preferring to give a thumbs up to each vlog……even before I’ve watched them. However I just wanted to say how much I’ve been looking forward to your Canadian travels….here in the UK I’m afraid that there’s very little shown of Canada….it’s mostly about your neighbours down south. Having reached this first vlog showing Canada, I feel that I am about to sit and enjoy a feast….thank you from Shropshire, UK.
