Norwegian King Harald's Surprising Response after Queen Margrethe of Denmark Abdicated

Each Monarch has every right to make their own choices. However, it must be said that Queen Margret II of Denmark's decision to abdicate the throne at the age of 83 was a very intelligent decision, because: FIRST: By abdicating the Queen allows her heir to the throne to exercise her powers functions as Monarch at an age of still great vitality. SECOND: as we have seen, the fact that Queen Margreth abdicates does not prevent her from continuing to be loved by her people as their Queen, and Queen Margreth can continue to perform some functions as an important member of the Danish Monarchy , even as Head of Stare , when the circumstances requires it.

Each monarch has the right to decide how they want to handle things. Personally, I like Queen Margrethe decision. She is available to the new monarchy for guidance and support. It must be quite shocking to lose a beloved parent and, on the same day, have the weight of a kingdom suddenly descend on one's shoulders. How disorienting is that? With an abducation, the new monarch has a chance to settle in and become well grounded in all aspects of the job before having to face parting with a parent in a very public way. Unfortunately, the King of Norway is only considering his own feelings and not the feelings of those who will have to follow. Queen Margrethe II, will always be a Queen as she takes up a new job as Queen Mother. Long live the Queen. 🍃

HM King Harald V, is one of the last remaining Monarchs from an age when Duty & Service was an Honourable & Sacred thing & as a Monarch, you made a proclamation & took an Oath to Your Subjects, to other Monarchs & the World in General, that you would Dedicate yourself to the Service of your People. The Late Queen Elizabeth ll of the UK, dedicated herself to the same Ideals on her 21st Birthday, in an address from South Africa with the words..."I pledge my Life, whether it be Long or Short, to the Service of the United Kingdom & the Great Imperial Family, to which we all belong." Seventy Five Years later, she passed peacefully away aged 96 years old, Still the Queen & still mindful of the Pledge she Made & the Oath she took. I see her Distant Relative, King Harald V, as a Man of Honour & Faithful always to his Oath, doing the Same thing. His Son & Heir, Crown Prince Haakon, relieves the King from some of the more tiring Royal Duties, which is of Double Edged Benefit, The work of the King not only gets done, it also gives CP Haakon invaluable on the Job Training, which will make for a seamless Transition for when he eventually takes the Throne. All this is not belittling Queen Margrethe ll 's Decision to Abdicate at all. She has always Stated that She would never Abdicate her Throne as long as she was Mentally & Physically able to carry out her Duty as Sovereign. Over the last 10 years, she has found it more Difficult to perform her Duties as Sovereign to the high Stands that she set herself. Most notably the deterioration of a Chronic Back problem which has caused her severe pain & has limited her ability to do many Duties, was not really improved by the Surgery she had in 2023. I believe she has measured her ability to continue as Sovereign against the High Standards she Believes the Danish People have the right to expect & as found herself wanting. Accordingly she Abdicated the Throne to her Son, now King Frederik X. To my mind, Queen Margrethe lll 's Decision, is more than Laudable, she has put the People of Denmark above herself & only She knows how much her ability to serve them as she would wish, She could do. This must be 1 of the most selfless acts any Monarch could do. King Harald V is not a stupid man, if he was faced with a similar dilemma as his Cousin was, I'm sure he would revisit the Question of Abdication then. At the moment his Mobility Concerns have not impinged on his Duty & Service & he is content to continue to handle the Reins. All Power to him I say, I hope he & Queen Sonya, reign for many more Years.

He's spot on' Kingship isn't a job but a calling. And nobody, not even kings or queens, should give in to the bullying that older people are to close the door, draw the curtain and just wait for the grim reaper.

She is not being honest. I do not believe that King Harakd would make any unkind statement against Queen Margrethe. There is a very good reason why the King will not resign. Please keep you mean remarks to yourself.
