I'm so happy you made a video on this! I'm from Norway and I just recently inherited my dad's K98k. It's from 1941 and I was lucky enough for it to have all its numbers matching (except for the barrel, since it was rebarreled). I added a Burris 2-7x32 scout scope with both low-profile rings and a low profile picatinny rail, but even with this setup the scope is a bit too "far up", which means that a cheek pad is still probably essential for shooting comfortably and consistently

That’s very lucky. Matching numbers is not common, but the barrel is understandable. I have seen you can some nice leather ones - what cheekpad do you have in mind?

@@ullberg1610 I'm still not sure yet which one to get. I originally thought about sewing one together myself, but I'll instead go the easy and cheap route and get the "Blackhawk Tactical Cheek Pad". It seems to be readily available in stores online, and it seems to be a universal fit. I would've considered leather if it wasn't for me wanting to get a black one since most of them are brown. Do you know if it the fit/size of the cheeck pad even matters? I.e. are most bolt action rifle stocks similar enough in proportions?

@@ullberg1610 I ended up getting a non-destructive cheek pad which uses glue and velcro for the K98k and I absolutely love it. It's a Norwegian (I think) brand called Bearproof, and the cheek pad's called "Precision Kolbekam". I've used it for 60 K98k shots so far and I have zero complaints except the price being a little high

Ian McCollum (ForgottenWeapons) made a very good video on the history and technical details of this. That, combined with this more practical evaluation, gives a good overview. Great video!

Nice review! Hilser fra Norge!
@1timmeh Жыл бұрын
also rebarreling would be easy, you would just need a 30-06 barrel blank and thread the receiver end of the barrel to match the receiver threads of the mauser. then just use a go/no-go gauge to properly headspace the barrel to the bolt face. great videos you got on your channel! i wouid love to hear your opinion on american firearms

Awesome video, very interesting! No vintage rifle here, just an ordinary R8. Waidmannsheil from Austria

Thanks a lot Karl Heinrich! It’s ans awesome rifle, despite its old age. An R8 does the trick too - but does it have the character of a K98k?!

@@ullberg1610 It does not for sure. However it is my only hunting rifle, I do everything with it, so for me it kind of has a heart too. Nonetheless I would love to get an old K98k and hunt with it from time to time like you. Keep the videos coming ;)

Great video. I've got one of these Norwegian capture 30-06 kar98 here in the US and it's hard to find much info on the history of it.

Congrats on your new rifle! How did you get hold of it? And what are the running prices for a K98k stateside?
@lmyrski83853 жыл бұрын
@@ullberg1610 Thank you! I got it from a local gun store that handles a lot of surplus rifle collection estate sales. Sadly its owner had passed away. They are not cheap rifles here in the USA. 8mmm Mauser 98Ks are a lot easier to find. I got mine Norwegian 98k 30.06 for $800. If you go to Gunbroker you will see bidding is still open for one at over $1,100. See link below: www.gunbroker.com/item/899216894

I just received a 1939 Husqvarna early FN98 640 model...for a 80+ year old sporter it looks awful nice...I dont think this one ever went hunting.
