Surviving my 2nd Winter of Extreme Van Life in Hurricane, Blizzard, Snow Storm & Camping in Freezing Temperatures. From Triple Hurricane inferno in the Arctic to a huge Blizzard further North. This was not the scariest part of my 2,000 Mile Drive through the Arctic and the Arctic Ocean, that was in the previous Hurricane episode.

3 record breaking hurricanes surprised me and hit the arctic coast within one week as I was traveling in my van to the outlying islands. The hurricanes where the strongest that have ever been measured in the country and reached wind speeds of over 62 m/s, or 140 mph. Records where set that where way higher than this again. Red alerts where issued for all along the coast, and I ended up in the middle of it, not by my choice, but when ferries are involved things can get tricky. I decided to run for my life to get out of there, and instead take my chances against a massive Blizzard. It was fierce!
My van is a Fiat Ducato, FWD with Nokian Hakkapalitta studless Winter Tires. This is the same as a Ram Promaster in America - USA and Canada.

This is my complete second winter of Winter Van Life in extreme conditions in the North, living in a van during freezing temperatures. Starting in November I go through the whole winter season of snowy winter adventures from November to April, with snow storms, blizzards, extreme cold, extreme snowfall, slippery roads and some amazing winter beauty as well.

An awesome beautiful site - that blizzard. Wild, free, untouched, and whimsical snow flying through the sky. It was a good strategy that your van positioned facing the wind direction. And the next morning was so gorgeous. Not much snow build-up at all. Thankful for that snowplow to do such a thorough job in clearing your parking area. Jarl, I grew up on Long Island New York. The most severe winter storm I can remember was the massive Northeast Blizzard of 1978. Snow drifts 6 to 7 feet high. Brought the entire Northeast United States to a standstill for a week. Even that storm pales in comparison to the extreme blizzards you encounter. Especially those winds packing a serious wallop of force, driving the snow horizontally. Absolutely incredible. I LOVE this beautiful snow! We normally have a fair amount of snow in the midwest of the United States. However, the last few years we have hardly any accumulation. I miss it. There is nothing like a beautiful, windy snowfall whike I am inside cozy & warm with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

Treat your van with kindness. The arctic is very hard on automotive systems. Brake fluid picks up condensation and may freeze. Batteries may not charge when frozen.
