Eggers has not had a bad movie, but he has had bad marketing. The VVitch was marketed as a generic puritan horror, I never saw marketing for the Lighthouse, and the media tried to call The Northman a right-wing dogwhistle. Each of those movies is a masterpiece. I probably won't see it on Christmas day, but I will actually go see this one in theaters!
@Tyler_WАй бұрын
Same here. I'll definitely see this, but definitely not on Christmas day. Eggars has been done dirty across the board. I'm glad some people out there are still willing to fund his projects because they've all tragically underperformed, and none of them deserved it.

This is the only film I've felt interested in watching in the theater in years... or actually watching at all, except for some indie and Korean horror movies. Always been a fan of the Alien franchise, but I deeply regretted seeing Prometheus and only saw Covenant because I had to kill two hours while waiting for an appointment, and in the ed decided I'd have been better off watching the car driving along the street. So of course I won't even touch Romulus with a ten-foot pole.

That's the greatest thing about the 1977 Herzog movie story for me: the evil wins in the end, because modern society is impotent against it due to our very scientific skepticism. And of course in the 1922, the vampire is defeated by the Elen's self-sacrifice. Otherwise I don't know what you guys are talking about: Bulwer is completely useless and doesn't even provide exposition in the 1992 movie and the only thing the Professor in the Herzog movie does is mostly looking senile and then staking the count after Mina has already defeated him by exposing him to sunlight and then going to prison for murder.

I can't imagine it will do as well as Bram Stoker's Dracula in the 90s. That movie did well because it was sexy and romantic and appealed to women even more than to men. Also, Goth stuff was just big back then, as exemplified by the rise of Tim Burton, movies like "The Crow" and so on. The Dracula movie fit into the zeitgeist perfectly and I doubt a movie like Nosferatu can do the same today.
@alexandresobreiramartins9461Ай бұрын
Yeah, Eggers is definitely niche, even though all his films are great works of art... well, perhaps BECAUSE of that.
@TrangleCАй бұрын
@@alexandresobreiramartins9461 Yes, but I don't think the issue is Eggers and his artsy-ness. It is just that the Dracula movie fit perfectly into the zeitgeist of the 90s and on top of that was very marketable to women. Both can't really be said about a Nosferatu movie in 2024, no matter who made it and how they made it.

I loved The Lighthouse and I loved The Northman, so… it sounds like Eggers is following up on his nucking futz ideas and imagery.
@heimdal8Ай бұрын
Maybe. However, Eggers is, if nothing, a massive fan of old traditions and lore. His almost perfectionist attention to historical details is what made his previous movies great. Telling ghost stories during Christmas is a very old tradition that has been forgotten in modern times. These days, everything is modeled after late 19th century, German upper middleclass traditions such as Christmas trees and cozy atmosphere but back in the day it was a time to gather around the fire place and listen to ghost- and horror stories. Dickens "A Christmas Carol" is a good example of this. Eggers is clearly following in that tradition. Also, as pointed out in the video, the 1992 movie " Bram Stoker's Dracula" was released during Christmas and it did great business.

I'm willing to give Lily Depp the benefit of the doubt but I havent seen a great, performance from her yet. Maybe this will prove me wrong. lily has a sensuality & way she carries herself & even tone of voice that anya doesn’t have, i love both! but lily has IT girl actress written all over her & has just been in some projects that didn’t highlight that fully. this role feels made for her. anya also has had her pick of major projects for years, it’s refreshing to see a fresh face, especially when lily comes from a family that’s been apart of burton films for so long, her haunted big brown eyes and all with that mischief and blatant confidence. but of course each to their own! it just seems to be anya fans being negative so far which is kind of a bad look..
