Nosferatu (1922) is my favorite movie of all time, it's the film that made me fall in love with cinema and the genre. The fact that a director of the caliber of Robert Eggers is remaking it (probably the best new voice in the genre), for me is incredible, I couldn't ask for a better auteur. This is my cinematic event of the year, can't wait. Thanks for the review.

This is the kind of review I dreaded most because all the criticisms that Christy and Alonso have are what I was afraid of, in anticipation of this film. I was hoping Eggers WOULDN'T be to reverential, and as Alonso put it, "under glass". But you can be damn sure I've got my ticket reservation for opening (Christmas) day!! lol I'm hoping for the best anyway!

I can't wait. The first time I saw Murnau's Nosferatu, I didn't get it. I was 13, and I had seen Dracula, and i thought Murnau's version was just weird and off-putting. The second time, about a year later, I loved it, recognized it for the masterpiece it is. And I was much better able to see Orlok in a sympathetic light. I wonder what a repeat viewing of this version will do to your opinions.

So note to producers and directors, be wary of IPs and overly familiar mythologies. There's only so much juice you could squeeze out of it, in spite of newer technology, great design and acting, bigger budget etc. The same fate happened to Alien Romulus. You get more mileage, and respect, by telling new stories, not rehashing old ones.

Ok, I am pretty sure that if Bill Skarsgård is in a movie, there is a good chance it is not going to be all that great. Now saying he is a bad actor or anything but you have to admit that a lot of the movies he is in only excels at around 79 percent but that is it.

When you use Dafoe for playing the umpteenth time a Dafoe part your casting is poor. Never before has a 7 out of 10 felt so much like a 4,5 carried away by sympathy and goodwill. As the praise goes in the direction of skillful film-making (but only on technical level if I got that right), we know what we fear. But we won't see it. We extrapolated on the basis of especially films two and three, and can't see what should bring us to this sitting.
