The way Rob described the ideal Tom & Jerry movie, some of them actually happened: in the one about Mars, they fight and chase, somehow get into a rocket, fight into the spaceship, fight in Mars, get stuck, meet aliens, nearly obliterate human race, decide to work together (Tom as the pain magnet by the way), save everything and Tom doesn't end well, everything happened and was saved because of them. The thing I like about this movie is how after they sing they'll be friends, dog leaves, they don't stop harassing each other, in other words: friendship song = pointless until Jerry saves Tom. Then Robin enters the picture and they decide to put their differences aside for time, because of her, at the end now that she's happy, they decide to go back to what they're good at, no talking only slapstick, and it was fine the way both cat and mouse could show emotions other than joy at hurting each other, like Tom's genuine concern of getting Jerry to safety (twice!), Jerry using his size to help in the great chase, eavesdropping the step-mother and fighting the dog. Other than that... the movie didn't get T&J's over-the-top spirit, the songs were horrible and the gimmicky characters weren't that fun to watch outside of the great chase in the river.

Turner bought the pre-1986 MGM library, including the rights to the Tome & Jerry characters, in 1992 they made the movie which was distributed by Miramax, and during 1995-1997 Turner was bought by Time Warner, hence Warner Bros. distributes Tom & Jerry today.

To answer the question about Who Animated it, it was "Film Roman". To answer who produced/distributed it, *TECHNICALLY*, As of today, it's Warner Brothers, but when the movie was first released in 1992, it was released by Turner Pictures. Ted Turner owned the Rights to Hanna-Barberra & MGM's Library (Including Tom & Jerry) for many years before Warner Acquired Turner's company in the mid-90s. So yes, the man responsible for Captain Planet is Also the man Responsible for the Tom & Jerry Movie (It helps to read his autobiography).

I bet you feel sorry for me now, that's fine, a couple of people did when I said that. It was definitely confusing seeing Tom and Jerry talk in this movie, and watch the shorts later, and they can't talk in those for some reason. Mostly because I didn't have the sense of time, and things happen in the order I perceive them.

Let's be real, if this movie was remade today, that dog & flea (the ones responsible for the whole movie) would be voiced by Chris Pratt & Awkwafina (or would just be written out. They're that forgettable), alongside Tom Holland or Ben Schwartz for Jerry & Seth Rogen or John Mulaney for Tom. I do agree with Doug & Rob. Their voices (Except maybe Tom's) do not match the duo, this kind of goes back to how Dan Akroyd's Yogi did not match while Justin Timberlake's Boo Boo is spot on. The voice Jerry had in the movie fits Nibbles more, TBH. I noticed a little detail in the movie, the minute Tom first started talking, Jerry looked at him like "Ah, shit, we're doing this now?🤣" Overall, the movie's a guilt pleasure of mine, but they should have just went with the friendship plot instead of just all over the place.

Henry Mancini did the film score and the music for the songs. Leslie Bricusse wrote the lyrics so if there’s anyone to blame it’s him. I respect him I mean he did Willy Wonka and a ton of other classic films. Also to answer the question on the animation, it was done by Film Roman the same studio that animated The Simpsons after Klasky Csupo. Also fun fact. Technically this could be considered a Disney movie. The reason is because this was the second film distributed by Miramax after being bought by Disney.

I am rather curious about the newer Tom & Jerry films (like Meet Sherlock Holmes, Meet Robin Hood, & the Jack & the Beanstalk one) since, from the gifs I've seen of them, they look pretty well animated.

The film was produced by Turner Entertainment Company, Warner Music Group and Film Roman. It was distributed in theaters by Miramax and originally released on video through FHE (Family Home Entertainment) and Warner Bros didn't get rights to it until 2002 when they released it on DVD.

In the original cartoon of Tom and Jerry sometimes, briefly they don't fight for comedic effect when they realise they should be; breakng rule 1. And there are rare occurances when they talk in funny voices.. breaking rule 2. I think these exceptions could drive a film more-so than the ones we've seen. Maybe adding their voice-overs from the films and keeping them in their heads/imaginations would help convey some reflection on what happens during the film..

adarkimpurity my orignal thought i forgot to write was about how they team up against a greater foe in some episodes; breaking rule 1, again temporarily.

To be fair, in most of the newer movies, even though they're on the same side and work together to help a protagonist, they do still fight.

Trying to improve the story: after being caught in the streets, and fighting a alley cat gang (without a song number, might I add), they are caught by the Mexican wrestler dog catchers, and thrown in Dr. Applecheek's lair, where more chasing and slapstick occurs. Jerry escapes easily and wanders on the streets while Tom stays locked. In a while after some shenanigans, Jerry starts missing Tom and goes back to free him, convincing the alley cat gang to help in exchange of giving himself to them afterwards. Meanwhile, Tom meets Droopy and Butch (the cat). Jerry returns and help everyone to leave their cages. The alley cat gang decides it's time to pay, but Jerry crossed his fingers, so he owes nothing. The alley cat gang is not happy and decides to take Jerry by force. But Tom steps in and, with the help of Butch, defeat the alley cat gang, with all the other animals defeating Dr. Applecheeks. Everyone is free, Tom and Jerry quickly thank it each other.... before returning to their old slapstick life.

I wonder if they'll do a real thoughts on Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

Is it just me or does Doug start turning into Gilbert Gotfried when he sings Friends to the End?

Apparently, Hanna Barbera are jumping on the Cinematic Universe bandwagon starting with a Scooby-Doo movie. It's inevitable that Tom and Jerry will be in this mutual continuity as well, but if I was working on it, I wouldn't give them their own movie. I would do something similar to the MCU where T&J make a cameo in someone else's film similarly to Howard the Duck in Guardians of the Galaxy. They're doing their own thing, a la Scrat in Ice Age. It would be hilarious if it was later revealed that their antics caused everything bad to happen in the different movies.

You know if Tom had talked in the movie as much as he did in the cartoons, that Christopher Walken voice would've been fitting, along with a couple of other actors.
