The most important part of this video to me is that it took 16+ years to build your physique and skills. I started working with intention in 2021. Sometimes I feel a lack of progress but I’ve gotten stronger, thicker, hurt less, better rom in addition to an ability to lift my 35+lbs toddler with one arm. I can carry my wife on my back. These are things I couldn’t have done without training. Not all gains are visible. So good. ❤

I’m 50 this year, and no oil painting. All my training and nutrition is geared towards improving my ability to do multi-day hikes. Stamina in the hills is more important to me than looking in the mirror. I like how you are discussing these ideas in your recent videos

My wife and I hike 8-10 miles every weekend in the Texas Hill Country that the State Park trails are open and local trails when they aren't. We're in our mid-fifties and have done these hikes consistently for almost two years. We're still "lumpy" but have outlasted many people who look "fit", especially now when the temperatures are between 85 and a 100 degrees Fahrenheit over the course of the hike. I carry a pack with snacks, two gallons of water, and a first aid kit for the whole of these hikes.

I think your approach to fitness is similar to Steve Kauffman's approach to learn languages... "It could be done consistently only if it is fun to you", and that approach is great! You can make a lot of progress by having fun while you practice a skill. Thank you for your video Adam, you showed us that it is a good approach!❤

Love the message of this video so wasn't going to comment this until you said you appreciate viewer feedback and you're trying to improve your form: You're telling too much, and consistently. When you do the jab cross, you have a little anticipating stutter with your feet before your left hand goes out that says you're thinking of jabbing. When you're throwing the right straight by itself, you pump your left shoulder out just a little before the right hand comes out. Not far enough to where I would think you were practicing feinting but to think it's just your tell when throwing the right. You did it every time so even if someone doesn't anticipate it they'll read it eventually. Easy to work on solutions, when throwing that jab be aware of your feet, make sure your lead foot isn't stepping if you're not throwing or feinting. When throwing the right, be aware of your shoulders and focus on pulling the left shoulder back as soon as the right shoulder goes out, be cognizant so it doesn't move on its own before your punch is out. I saw you kicking so I'll also say stop dropping the left arm when you throw the cross. Visualize that your hands have a single fishing line tied to them, that loops around the back of your head. When the right goes out, that fishing line pulls your left hand back to your eyebrow. I say this because in muay thai dropping the left when shooting the right is a great way to eat a shin bone, the length and power of a roundhouse compared to that of your cross is not a fair trade, even with you tossing the bag like it's a paperweight.

When I train people in TCMA, it's hard to train them once a week. I give them little "homework" movements to play with in their spare time, and the majority of the time they don't do them. They're not lazy, but they communicate something along the lines of "I'm only here when I'm HERE"; They're only ready to think about the training when they've put the clothes on, got in the car, and drove to the training site. It's hard for me to understand, because I think about it all of the time, and how the movements relate to all things.

It's not easy to do but you can improve in multiple areas. The main thing is you won't excel to the top 1% - 3% doing that, and you have to be fine with that. Also, one has to take into account the interference effect. As much as I'd like to be able to run a marathon or ultra, I want to be good at Parkour and Martial arts, which are more sprinting and power dependent, needing good amounts of muscle mass and high absolute strength. Getting good at endurance running will interfere with those sports and goals, especially by catabolizing muscle.

This is a fact. Some of my stats have near doubled, my strength has increased a ton - to the point where I can do things I never imagined, yet my body weight has not changed, if anything its gone down slightly, I havent put on huge muscles in combination with the skill increase but I am way stronger and more physically capable. I kind of like the fact that I havent put on a lot of muscle along with my strength gains though now that I am thinking, because it means my relative strength to bw is higher and I can be more functional.

When it comes to the idea of being good at multiple things rather than sacrificing everything for one thing I usually think of the Paladin and Hero classes in Fire Emblem. The former has decently high stats all around while the latter's SLIGHTLY leans towards specialisation but not to the point of being blatantly lopsided; they have a tangible strength and only a minor weakness.

I think people focus too much on "oh i gotta do the exact same thing the exact same way or else ill WASTE MY GAINS" (Not pointing the finger at who that mindset might've come from 😏) If you know how much weight is effective in bodyweight/dumbbells/barbells/machines/sandbags etc then it shouldnt matter what you do unless you're a powerlifter or something. Ive recently started going to a gym where the equipment is limited. But i know ill still get the same workout no matter what equipment is available.

A modest piece of advice or two : 1. The essence of martial arts is not limb movement but body and head movement, for controlling space and avoiding blows to the head. Pick up some footwork and head movement and you'll be able to shadow box. 2. Extend your steel club training into what they were designed for, handling a weapon. Escrima, French batton, jo, all are fine weapons which will increase your array of skills and will make practical movements like mills and shield casts. You're doing great, Bioneer. No matter what occurs, never stop. The best defense against feeling like shit as you age is fitness, but by the time most folks feel bad enough to do something about it, its too late. Rust never sleeps. Keep spreading your gospel, Bioneer.

This is ultimately the way TRUE athletes train,the 'problem' with this is that the masses of people ( who decide through viewership whether you're worth listening to) think is that this is too much like hard work. Its a sad situation but 'simple' and 'easy' appeals to the masses. I say this in modesty as a guy approaching mid 50's in age.

Hi Adam, I bought your super functional training 2 0 program which was great. I have a question: u have four training days: pull push leg full body. I want to restart mma sessions after half a year off. I aim for 2 days a week. How do you suggest i combine martial arts sessions with your training program? Just do your 4 training days + 2 mma days and rest 1 day or would u drop perhaps the full body day or just half the exercises done on each day to have sufficient energy left for mma in the week? Thanks.

Boxing serves the function of knocking people on their ass, so the initial statement is categorically wrong.
@MrScrofulous5 ай бұрын
@@cesarandrade1987 Exactly how many times have you done that in your life ? For me, despite doing plenty of tong-long as a lad, exactly zero. That said, his boxing is the most fun thing he does. Most of what he is describing is training for the sake of training though. I'me not really knocking him as I've done plenty of that and continue to, but it's not the same as doing sports or past-times that utilise all that fitness and muscle in a purposeful way that goes beyond exercise. We could have a jolly good discussion ab out exactly what that is though too. My zen place is paddling an ocean ski as surfing has become too competitive and actually too hard for me since I bust my quad, and road cycling is increasingly uncomfortable. Gravel riding is cool MTB is still fun, but again, doing less of it as I age out. I'm not really knocking the Bioneer. I love his stuff.
