@@mariasol1545lol Concept and Promotions matter too, like you can’t compare POP’s budget with Runaway. Also Tzuyu had way less promotions than Nayeon and POP was a song that appealed to General public especially Koreans with the cute concept, Jihyo also have good vocals, but why her song didn’t charted well? After all it’s all about the song. So the Vocals point is useless + Idols whose vocals aren’t that good also made popular songs like Somi, Sunmi etc. All it need to be a popular soloist is a good Song and a good Concept. Run away was good, but nothing new, smth like Sunmi would make 10yrs ago, didn’t appealed to locals, because the new groups are coming out with strong concepts, where locals pay alot attention.

I really don't mind idol solo debuts. I hold no expectations for solo debuts as you can truly never know what an idol would go for when venturing into personal work. I feel once you hold certain expectations based on an idols image is when a solo debut sullies. For instance: with jihyos solo debut I had expectations of something overly melodic; perhaps jazzy. Something downtempo and classical that flaunts her vocal talent. So, when we got a poppy Uk garage track, following current Kpop trends at the time, (no offense) I felt very disappointed, despite it actually being a good song. I truly had no idea what to expect from tzuyu so I really enjoyed her solo debut.

I am Tzuyu biased and I actually purchased this album from her. I think this was not the worst solo project I've ever seen, personally. Having that said I am a person who always uses the phrase "some idols shouldn't debut solo" and when people say this they usually do mean that they just don't deliver enough in quality (singing / dancing / stage presence) for most audiences. And people are in general just afraid that if said idol they had in mind goes solo that this idol will just get a lot of hate or brings the overall group a financial loss. The kpop fandom always has been very elitist like this since gen 1. I started in gen 2 and this was just a normal business anyone understood objectively that some things just aren't smart or safe. But yeah. It's very complex ultimately for people who don't consume kpop based on any form of objectivity. It's more prominent now since gen 4 and gen 5 and imo there's two whole separate consumers of kpop these days, split into those 2 different groups.
@jasoninthea.m74712 ай бұрын
I used to have this opinion that "any idol can debut solo" because Kpop idols don't need to particularly be a kpop idol type kpop soloist where they have to do singing and dancing. I thought that they can do other types of music as well that doesn't have them dancing. Any song that fits their vocals, the talent, the idol in general. So, I didn't really see the "no every idol deserve to go solo" as true because of idols who can try to do whatever fits them or works for them. Now, I do still believe it to an extent because I see Lisa's solo songs like New Woman (ft Rosalia) & Moonlit Floor and how they were actually quite good and I thought that Lisa doing solo music outside of YG she has more control of releasing music that she wants to and works well for her.

Most of the time, if I'm listening to music, I'm not watching a video or a stage performance, I'm just hearing the audio. In this regard, Tzuyu's solo, Run Away, is the best solo song by a Twice member yet.
@melisacaceres87402 ай бұрын
I strongly disagree with this video. Not because of Tzuyu, she's gorgeous and talented. But because indeed YES, there are parameters on who gets to debut solo and who doesn't. It is one of the biggest achievements of an idol. And who decides is the company and how profitable it can be. Even SHINee with their huge career, one of their biggest pride is that all members are successful soloists. If a musician wants to release music just because, it's ok but that's art and k-pop is a business. Even if the fans love it, the general public is the one that has the final say because what truly dictates a group's success is the general public. I saw some clips of Tzuyu and sadly have to say, I think she only got a solo so fans stop saying that she's mistreated and that renewing her contract with JYP was purely a sacrifice for the group. This project seems like a "take and shut up" thing from JYP. I truly believe that everyone has the right to improve but it is A LOT OF MONEY invested on releasing a solo, many idols never saw a solo stage after not meeting the standards needed. No matter how hard the fans supported it.

None of the twice solo debuts have been particularly great, for whatever reason. For Chewie, coming after the two main vocals of the group definitely didn’t do her any favours. Seems the strategy was not quite well thought out enough? Could have done like a sub-unit type of thing (like misamo maybe, or like,a collab type thing with another artist), as a first step to give her a slightly different leading role and also let the audience get used to seeing her differently. Also wondering why Dubu or Chaeyoung haven’t done anything yet as they seem more equiped, e.g. can write their own songs and more versatile to dabble in other music genres that may be a bit different to standard K-pop. Also sad that Jeongyeon doesn’t want to do solo work as her voice and beauty was ridiculously underused in Twice. [Edited for spelling]

Good video essay. The limited success of Run Away may be more due to the song than Tzuyu's performance. Jisoo and Tzuyu have a lot of similarities; both are the Visuals, both are better known for their beauty than their stage presence, both exude the "Elegant" vibe not the "Bad B*tch" vibe, and honestly, expectations of each of their solo's were, let's say, modest, especially considering the preceding huge solo hits of their fellow members. However, Jisoo's solo album holds the all-time record for sales by a solo female Kpop Idol and her 2023 music video Flower had more views than any music video that came out in 2023 from a Kpop or Jpop act (male or female, group or solo). So, given their popularity and competence at performing within their groups, Jisoo and Tzuyu both deserved a solo debut. IMO Tzuyu did everything she could to make it a success, but I don't think Jisoo could have made Run Away a success either. Sometimes it is the song, not performer that falls flat.

Tzuyu is a beautiful, talented young woman. But as an idol, she's boring af. There's no charisma, unfortunately.

Tzuyu is the most popular member of Twice so it's obvious that she would get a solo debut sooner than all the other girls.

Nayeon is the most popular member of Twice, Sana is a close second if not first actually, along with Momo. Tzuyu was the most popular in their first year or 2.
