Lali, I am a father annd grandfather. I have never ridden a motorcycle but did want to as a teenager, and REALLY want to now. I have bicycled most of my life, and bicycled to work for 30 years. I'd still cycle to work if I could, but I now live 12 km from work, across and/of along every major road in the city, except for one. I would love to ride a motorcycle to work, and for fun, but I simply can't afford one. I am also height-challenged, at: 195 cm and size 14 feet, I'm not sure I'd find clothing to fit. I suspect, though, that if I can come up with the money for a bike (and the gear!), I'll end up on a KTM 390. Your slow bike fast vs fast bike slow statement is SO true!

What I wear under my gear depends on the temperature. I go from underwear and a wicking short to fleece base layers under my clothes. I hear you on foot peg position. When I drop my F800GS off the center stand, the foot peg often bangs my shin. I have battle wounds. It friggin hurts! I have wide pegs with gripper things on the top so your boots don't slide. AKA shin scrapers. Re: your dad. I'm 60 and have been riding for 40 years. No training at first. If he can ride a bicycle, he can ride a motorcycle. Instead of peddling, you just work the clutch and brakes The rest is pretty much the same. But it's not for everyone. Who knows? He's got you to help him out if he decides to give it a shot. I didn't start riding dirt until I was almost 50. Everyone I know that rides dirt started as a kid. So they all wanted to do the black diamond trails and I was doing blues. That left me riding alone most of the time. That's fine in a off road park with trails and stuff, but you don't want to solo on forest roads in the middle of nowhere. Even if you're really experienced, a relatively minor injury can leave you in a bad situation really easily if you're alone. You might not be able to lift your bike or walk out. That said, dirt experience is not just fun, but it really helps you learn clutch, gearing and brake work well. If you have to do a gravel section out on a ride, you're not quite so nervous and if you slide a little, you don't panic.

Some folks have recommended wicking baselayers - I agree 100%. I ride in western North Carolina and during the summer may see a 45° morning turn into a 90° day. I usually wear, e.g., the “ldcomfort” top and bottom - they’re reasonably comfy in the cool and I generally wet them down at fuel stops. I’m usually in the Klìm Badlands jacket/pants, to give you an idea of airflow, and it’s worked for me on multiple KTMs and the BMW GS. The one that surprises people is that I tend to carry long-sleeve cotton (100% cotton) shirts with me in the heat. Same idea as the base layer - soak it in cold water at a gas stop, adjust my jacket vents and let evaporative cooling work it’s magic. My partner gave me a neck gaiter that serves the same purpose…anything you can wet down that can pull the heat away. If you’ve not worn compression socks with your riding boots, I’d give that a shot as well. It’s amazing how less tired my lower body can be just on my socks choice after throwing a 500lb+ bike through gravel all day (and how much more comfortable I am, in general, after being on the highway all day). I used to think that was just because of my size (6’1, 145kg) but then I started talking to younger, smaller riders, and they seem to make a difference for most folks…plus they’re tall enough for the big ADV boots :D

The "ugh goddamnit" at 8:30 was so funny to me (and so true) I had to watch it twice😂 Literally my exact feeling when doing a course. Such a cool video! The triumph and ktm were both on my 'check out' list this year for my next bike- I kept saying, "oh, no way!" throughout the video 😄Was the riding position much different between those and the mt-07? 100% with you on the ktm - everything I've seen about the bike I like but I get real "look how they massacred my boy" feels when I see those lights 😅

Duke would be a nice upgrade from the MT07! I was doubting for it as well but instead went with the MT09. It's a little more road friendly and quite alot cheaper in purchase and maintenance. But it's definitely a toptier naked bike to go for.

So under my adventure gear, in the winter time in NYS capital district I will wear long john thermals, an old Honda wool sweater my dad bought when he was in his 20's and glove liners. If it's stupid cold, I'll wear a heated vest and pant under my gear. Might have trash bags in my boots if it's cold and wet. My adventure boots are waterproof. But just in case since cold and wet are colder than I've ever been in my life because I am willing to go down to 0°f if the roads are cooperating. Summer time, I'll wear a Tshirt, under my jacket. Summer thermal if I'm riding all day. But unless I'm going somewhere fancy, my adventure pants are my pants. Obviously I pull out the jacket liners and store those in the walk in closet in the right goldwing side case. All vents open unless it's raining. It's good to hear you liked the dual sport. I rode a DRZ400E back in the day that we did up as a SuMo with the parts from the DRZ400S. It was like a rocket ship that stopped pulling at 97mph. The first bike I crashed at speed. But we got rid of it because it printed speeding tickets when you were trying to be good.

@@AntiParallali lol, if you get a Goldwing you can ride as long as the ground is dry. Even as a pretty young person I have nasty arthritis from spending so much time on a computer and all the abuse I've put my body through. Heated grips help with that. I also have a nice set of snowmobile gloves I will break out if it's really cold. my last helmet was sold as both a motorcycle and snowmobile helmet so I was able to get the double lined heated shield to keep it clear when it was closed. I almost always ride with a helmet skirt and breath box because of allergies. But that means I'm ready for winter.

Terrific Video Miss Lali Thank You! and Thank You for letting this ol' coot know that I could date you, I am an old cowboy, Yes a ranch and farm raised rodeo bull riding cowboy but TOOOOO old for you. I appreciate your videos so much for the lack of "click bait". You did make that whole safety suit look beautiful and that's all the "click bait" I would need. Seriously I hope you can get your Dad riding, he's a great person and obviously a great Dad so the motorcycle community could use his intelligence and maturity. Once again you prove street bike riders and adventure/off road riders buy, wear and use safety gear more so then my brothers and sisters riding big road bikes. Maybe there's a level of self preservation and maturity we old farts fail to give a younger generation credit for. I am an oddity in that I have always worn tan colored leathers; chaps, vest and jacket while taking crap for wearing it year round. So if we meet in the summer, I will stink with a smile on my old white bearded face. If the world gets the privilege to have you riding year round as I do, just slow down for corners and when you pass intersections where sand and salt may have been spread. 40 degrees and dry are still perfect riding conditions for me. Yes You like me can ride in ice and snow just very carefully. PLEASE! Enjoy your home country! I envy Romania for having your heart but I do so appreciate everyone that makes it a point to remember where they come from. Ancestry and personal history are truly important. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

my dad rode my goldwing to Calgary once (mom on the back) to visit some friends, and they came to a 'Check Stop'... he didn't have a motorcycle license, but he lucked out - the police officer said "you look like some folks who just want to enjoy a Saturday, so I'm going to let you do just that - but if you want to ride regularly, you should look into a Class 6" (motorcycle licence in Alberta).... he never got his 6, but he didn't ride that far after that...

i am a dad and i just wanted to ride ever since i knew what a motorcycle was lol. i rode a 4 wheeler to start then a honda trail 90. then a yamaha mx 100 2 stroke, honda XR 200 r. didnt ride for several years while in the Army. then after i got a 98 Suzuki GSF 1200 bandit. that was my only streetbike. i havent rode in over 10 years. i want to get back into it with a ADV or Harley/ cruiser type. im 6'2 and my joints suck so i want to be able to stretch out. KTM and Ducati both have "adaptive cruise control" which i really like. it will speed up or down to keep distance with the car in front of you. why Harley doesnt have that idk. if the smaller bikes had cruise control i would honestly be looking at them. why cant a 300cc streetbike have cruise control? even the adaptive one ? use your connections girl and make it happen 👍👍. get to influencing !! lol. how old is your dad? to get him into bikes i recommend a small fun bike. like a new trail 125 or grom. even a 250 enduro be good. you can find used ones cheap. something that fits him or atleast not too tall. not sure how tall he is either. need details woman details! lol. the jacket and pants looked nice, grats. the singing was a nice break for me because i have had a Toby Keith song stuck in my head ever since i heard it on a Shadetree or Chey vid i think it was lol. "i should of been a cowboy!" sh!t its back again. i like it when you try out new bikes , even if its just new to you. you go into it with no bias, just ride. good vid girl.

I’m not a beginner but a re-entry rider after 30 years. I had no interest (sort of I was going to rebuild my BSA 650) in a bigger bike and wanted to get back into dual sport bikes and bought a XT250. It’s probably just me but like that Triumph the for pegs are in a bad spot for me so much so I bought shin guards. The low end throttle response can be a bit to responsive for some but can be adjusted through the unpublished dash modes. Unfortunately I’m not able to take it off road as much as I’d like but it’s a fun get around bike. How many times did you look for 6th gear?

Have you also tried to tempt your mom into riding motorcycle? Have either of your parents been your passenger on a motorcycle? (Warning, most sport bikes and sport nakes don't give a good passenger experience. Touring bikes, sport touring bikes, cruiser bikes with backrests and some adventure bikes provided a much better experience for the passenger.) I believe that the Pennsylvania motorcycle safety program currently uses the Total Control beginners curriculum not the MSF BRC. Does Pennsylvania require that you have your motorcycle permit before taking the class? When I lived in Pennsylvania they used the MSF curriculum of that time. That was in the 1980's and 1990's. The wait time to get signed up for a class was one to two months long. But the price was great, free. I know the MSF curriculum is no longer used. Has there been other changes? If you do talk your dad into take the class it might be fun to retake the class with him. When I lived in Pennsylvania I would retake the class every year or two for the fun of it. Even though it was the same class, retaking it was useful for me.

I am guessing I am around your dads age an I ride. But I have been riding off an on sence I was 14. 30 years now. You should introduce your dad to the youtube channel "Ginger Dash Moto." If memory serves, she decided she wanted to ride an bought herself her first motorcycle for her 50th birthday. I also like Billies idea of buying him a spot taking the MSF course. He would have a hard time saying no to going with his daughter for her to get "safety" training. That would prretty much be a dad can't refuse moment.

Hi 👋 Lali, happy to see you on a KTM 890 Duke. I think it’s going to be be my next bike (R version, way more “juicy”). I never rode it, I just sat on it at the dealer’s show room. Is it so “hooligan” as everybody says? Is it so ready and powerful? Unlucky I crashed my katana… a lot of gravel in a corner didn’t forgive me. So I decided to fix it and make her a new owner. But that’s not the reason: I want a 2 cylinder bike, because when you ride a 4 cylinder into mountain twisties , even so perfect and powerful like my one, you finish to feel kind of unsatisfied. Furthermore KTM is so lightweight that seems a feather 🪶. I think it’s a little bit tall for you, but I suggest you to try “R” version, if you’ll have the possibility to do it. Thank you for your video:
