What's wrong with music that has nothing to do with the game? I think most of us chose to come here for the music. Dear Mr. Chess Tournament, please note that your visitors come to your site because of the music that is played when Magnus is playing. I knew there would be a bunch of noise here that could never have anything to do with chess. That is the only reason I came to this site. My visit had nothing to do with a game from the World Champion. Why would I want to watch his play?....oh yeah... and Stop with the music!!!!!!!!!

I've been studying Q v R, so it was a pleasure to see this. They both acquitted themselves very well, IMO. It wasn't "optimal" but once the last pawn was gone, Carlsen never gave up the win and Lagrave never missed an opportunity to pull out a draw. Champion level play.

The way Magnus forced MVL into Philidor's position was absolutely masterful. However, I was surprised to see him struggle to convert the Philidor. I guess it's been a while since he's had a look at it. The Philidor is a mate in 7 (after triangulation for zugzwang) if played correctly, I guess Magnus trusts himself to find the moves over the board. But being low on time, he got himself into a bit of a pickle after playing Qh4+ at 17:45 instead of the standard Qa1+ Kh2 (...Rg1, Qh8#), Qa2+ forking the rook.

Queen Vs rook is like 10x harder than bishop n knight checkmate....

The difference is in bishop vs knight checkmate there is a straight forward technique to win which can be used irrespective of what position. But in queen vs rook there is no such technique instead one need to start from basics like practice mate in 1, 2, 3 and up to over 30 moves in order to solve any position. Then there is another technique that is to study certain key positions and try to reduce to that. For example in these philidor position but its only useful for few positions only. Main problem is 50 moves rule there so need to make moves accurately.

@@rahuswati1492 Those who win queen vs rook endgame is not by thinking instead they memorize certain moves to simplify the position to lesser distance to mate position. It's almost like memorizing opening moves.

There is no straight forward method to solve queen vs rook endgame. I mean tackle any random position with perfect accuracy. The way to solve this is to reduce the initial position to next lowest distance to mate position. For example if the initial position is 10 moves to mate then the goal is to reduce it to mate in 9 moves position then to 8,7,6,5,4,3,2 and 1.
