If you position the ATLS in a good "in between" spot, you can tap Z to enter free look mode. That way you can mouse to one side to grab a box and then drag it to the other side to where you want to drop it. That saves you a lot of waiting for the ATLS to do it's tippy-taps to pivot and you can actually see around the box too.

Do you know if there's a way to permanently store the ATLS in the hangar? Currently, it always vanishes, so each time I want to unload stuff, I need to store the ship first, claim the ATLS, retrieve it, move it away, and retrieve my ship again. I'm currently salvaging, so talking the ATLS with me is not an option, but I'm always selling at the same spot anyway, so I'd be happy if it just persisted in that hangar until I come back.
@DarknessReborn505 күн бұрын
@@kekelapp0r Persistence only works on your home hanger. But I usually put my atls there just past the freight elevator's ASOP terminal and it doesnt disappear. You cant put it too close to the pad though or itll despawn. So right next to the terminal has been working for me.

3:54 Open the other ramp and they level out. Make that your new first option. It is faster and easier than the others. That is some tight turning in the hanger.

I do enjoy cargo hauling personally; planning the route, loading and unloading the boxes with the onboard tractor, the atls, or by hand, flying the spaceship, taking in the sights; I find it to be all very relaxing, or alternatively mining; if I want my relaxing interspersed with some "oh shit! this rock is about to blow" moments, salvaging, though, makes my brain melt from boredom. Guess I am not the most consistent person.

I typically enjoy cargo loading/unloading, but I think my enjoyment depends pretty heavily on the ship I'm dealing with as well as whether I'm doing it with a partner/crew. I always enjoy multiplayer loading and unloading, it just brings a better vibe to the activity. When I'm solo though, ideally I'd like to use an on-board tractor beam but barring that I want to be able to stand in one spot with either a multi-tool or max-lift and be able to hit the entire cargo grid and freight elevator with minimal movement necessary. I think all ships could do with cameras, not just rear-view but also top and bottom cameras, as well as a camera for the docking ports of ships that have them, and if I'm being greedy I'd like a camera in every freight ship's cargo hold though I admit that's more for the immersion/realism/roleplay than for any practical reasons. I have front, rear and side cameras in my very affordable car that's a few years old at this point, and I'm supposed to believe that in a situation where regular folks are flying around in space making a living most manufacturers expect the pilots to place their lives and those of their passengers into a "hopes and dreams" situation in every single top-opening hangar? I don't buy it lol.

Bought a bunch of ground vehicles, and am trying to figure out what I would work towards, but money is there to be made. What's kinda crazt is just how stable it is sometimes and then it just goes totally bonkers and makes it impossible to play. Still.. quite a time no matter what.

20:01 I've found that sometimes cargo grids have ghost boxes on them. You have to go around the items that it thinks are there and pick them up from the side.

@Farrister8 күн бұрын

@RSI_Rusty_Venture7 күн бұрын
I don't think those are boxes. There's more like an invisible line pretty much in the middle of the freight elevator. When you cross that line the tractor will stick to the box. The line is from left to right (not from the back to the front of the elevator). The reason I don't think they are boxes, is because it goes all the width of the elevator, and the angle and height doesn't matter. As long as you cross that thin line the tractor beam will stick.
@NatCr3w7 күн бұрын
@RSI_Rusty_Venture So I've experimented when it happens both in elevators and cargo holds. When it happened to me, cargo pulled past this would show the cargo snap preview on top of the open space as if another box was there. Letting go, it would snap to this and float in the air as if sitting on another box. Yes, not necessarily ghost boxes, but the grid and tractor beam seem to be retaining old box placements. I had a massive load of drugs from a xeno salvage in Patch City I stored. I went and only pulled out the Weevil eggs to sell, and the crates were floating and behaving as if the SLAM boxes I had sent down with them were still there. I knew this because we unload SLAM first and Eggs second in my crew. The kicker was I loaded the drugs up and had left them in Patch for almost 3 weeks, and it had retained this behavior.
@Leptospirosi10 күн бұрын
21:20 what you can't overcome is when you go to an outpost and all the elevators are broken. Then you have to throw out all the cargo because you can not sell it and fail the mission because "Star Citizen!" 20:45 the Herc Is good as it is, but I think an ATLS should come as a free loan with it: after all, unlike the Cat that comes with a Buccaneer, the herc has nothing for free, unlike many other less expensive ships.

Humbly, the server performance is our biggest opponent at this point. Also, if the mule worked as good as it should, moving cargo up and down ramps would be faster and easier than with tractor beams. My humble opinion after failing five hauling missions in a row over five days.

Yup, although it seems that stability is a focus for this year

I persevered through the bugs and earned ~12M, enough to buy a few ships including a taurus and a vulture (and then used the vulture to buy a prospector but made less than a mil with the prospector - did not have much luck with that game loop, fees too high and poor luck with spawns). I think I've had enough of the hauling loop for a while. Swapped over to the Taurus to run NPC bounties, it's better money, and less mind-numbing... though probably no less buggy in the 4.0 build. The C2/M2/A2 landing gear bug is pretty annoying, I ran into it (and reported it) on the 3.24 line. Despite them marking it as corrected, it wasn't until one of the recent 4.01 PTU patches that it was actually fixed. Will be nice to have that working again in live.

good sruff! i am wondering where the break even point is compared to stacking the xs direct planetary contracts which you can easily do solo in a ~90 scu ship....the herc + atls already seems worth it to have another hand to speed things up, like the atls dumping from the ship and guy with maxlift clearing the pile onto the elevator...ofc by this you already slipt the payout in half

Cargo needs simulated weight and power drain should be required to pick up and snap cargo, they should hover on the surface like pump truck hight not like harry potter leviosa woo in the air It needs work to stack etc should require a over head rig too
@BizzleMade19 күн бұрын
The C2 doesn't need a tractor beam as it is not a dedicated hauler and it is a transport ship more for vehicles and military assets. Every ship that is capable of hauling doesn't need a tractor beam. Honestly only dedicated cargo haulers should have them which would better define ship roles and classes. Just my opinion.
@Farrister8 күн бұрын
Makes sense as a concept - I was mulling it over too!

I don't see how it would hurt to have a tractor Beam in a Herc. I mean the Polaris has one, though limited in it's POV, it's very useful especially getting rid of the time sink of walking back and forth with an ATLS.

I was having really good performance, but the last few days have been a little rough. It goes in cycles in guess. I've started doing station trading with a Starlancer, since it doesn't require loading. I'll also grab hauling missions to fill in gaps from stations that only have waste and scrap. Last night I did have several missions that never spawned cargo, so I just went empty.

Switching to a server where it's night time can help to counter server issues, at least login issues. I've had a drastically less infinite loading screens after switching servers.

Dunno about the hauling portion, but cargo moving should be faster... i.e. the tractor beam portion. Very tedious right now, and only the ATLS speeds things up (i.e. the max-lift is not faster than the multi-tool, only handles larger boxes and greater distances) but I've noticed that if you use the ATLS to grab a box from off a cargo grid, it moves MUCH slower than if you pick one up off the ground. I'd really like it if they added a detach/attach button to the tractors, so you don't have to struggle to release a box from a grid (as sometimes happens now)
@snaggletoof19279 күн бұрын
I've heard someone mention that lowering the ramps first before landing helped with that issue. No idea if it works or not.
