I am tired. So tired
Two months, two goddamn months and it probably ain't gonna be worth it.
This video was... a bit too ambitious for my second real project. I might post a behind the scenes video if people like this enough.
So yeah uhh this is my latest work for the "Silver Lining" Animated series. World, Models and animation all by me. Animated and modelled in Blender at 12 fps. I voice acted Christopher and Connor. The sound effects come from way too many sources for me to mention.
Silver Lining is what I've decided to call this world and I'll probably continue working on it in the future. Btw the story is heavily inspired by SOMA. If you know you know :)

I noticed something: All the corrupted chassis have very high copy IDs, and the one that attacked them had a medium-high one, while Chris has a very low copy ID (and probably Connor as well, but it hasn't been shown yet) So I think this means the original memories get more and more corrupted with each copy, and they start thinking less and less and eventually will never activate because of how scrambled the code is. And they also become less and less likely to form friendships/alliances as well. I wonder if this means that copy IDs like 1 or 2 would be extremely smart/strong because the code is almost completely stable.

I was guessing that the CopyID would be unique for every unit; incrementing for each copy of _anyone_ made: So, early CopyIDs would be some of the first units downloaded, when the files were fresh. Cumulative damage to some repository, could them result in increasing storage or transmission errors, until the system can't send viable copies anymore. I certainly wasn't thinking of the synthetic units having copies made of them; copies of the copies? My interpretation was that the copying system itself was breaking down.

I feel like it's a case of generation loss. Imagine you take a photo, it's crispy clean, and the colors are vibrant, and then you copy it to have more of it. Then, for some reason, the original photo is lost, and the same happens with other copied photos that you make copies from. With each copy, the resulting photos start to lose some detail or color. It was unnoticable at first due to the minute loss. After some time of copying, the current ohotos come out different than the original one you remember, losing the original details and morphing into something you can't recognize anymore.

I’m so invested in this world, the idea that scientists copied themselves across multiple weaponized chassis across a barren world, some random orbital laser apparently taking random potshots at the surface of the planet, and the technology which looks almost like magic and I’m slightly convinced might be something similar to it. It’s also very fun visually seeing the improvement, this looks so fun

This is so unbelievably incredible from a storytelling perspective. In these four something minutes you managed to make me fall in love with these two tin cans and their world. Showed just enough story to hook, but not too much to bore. You just made people want to know more. I certainly do. You characterised them so well even if you voiced them alone. Good job! Chris and Connor just feel like two separate, real (Eh, close enough) people. And lord, their designs. I'm a sucker for a good mechanical design and this is it. They managed to be memorable and convey the personalities of your characters, while also being unique enough to stand out in the ocean of other sci-fi worlds. Bonus points for color coding them and bonus-bonus points for making Chris look like a knight (even if it was unintentional). I love how even the humour ties to the characters mechanical origin. Chris shutting down because he's a robot and managed his energy poorly is hilarious (Him collapsing afterwards is a cherry on top). On the final note I really want to make sure that you know that this project wasn't a waste of time, and you executed your idea beautifully. Keep doing what you like to do, and I'm glad I can follow you on your creative journey. It's because of the creators like you I love KZbin.

Dude, the sound design you used in this is pretty damn good. The reverberation from Chris whenever he is in a combative state, the charging of the Connor Copy's projectile, and even just the sound you had used at 3:21 - 3:23 is just really well put together. I also just love the implication that every time there has been an interaction with another Connor, they have had numerous situations where something needs to be repaired. Makes me wonder how the first interaction between Connor and Chris went....

Goddamn someone noticed. I used to make a bunch of Rain World stuff in 3D when I was practicing which included the guardians. I needed a bunch of symbols for this scene and though “well I already modelled these guardian symbols, why not reuse them instead of spending time making new original symbols”. The strategy is to be as efficient as possible while the visuals still look passing. The amount of things in this animation that are recycled from previous projects is staggering.

From the info above chris at 1:35 we learn some new lore this copy/robot version of him has been active for 674528 hours (a little over 77 years) and is the 7th copy being other robots have copy nubers in the hundreds there are many more around cant wait to see more of these two! I wouldn't expect to see CopyIDs get reused for different people: Each copy of _anyone_ ought to be getting a unique CopyID, so Connor would be the 263rd copy of anyone _ever made,_ within that system. Presumably, the storage or transmission of later copies, incurred errors; resulting in the corrupted units (beware of late CopyIDs)... I'd love to find out more canon about this world's backstory!

I love the fact that you've basically figured out the animatics style for 3D animations. The one thing I see a need for improvement with is how you anticipate the more impactful attacks in the fight sequence with some parts going too fast to catch what's happening (something made me miss which of the two Connors got kneecapped until it got pointed out afterwards) and some of the bigger attacks being over anticipated to the point of just kind of losing the impact they could have had (especially the final blow). Other than that, this stuff's great. Models, poses, writing, comedy and the creativity overall is just on point.

@@VenikHue Extra ambient lighting and changing their base colors to a slightly lighter grey(that should still give the idea of them being the colors they are) should fix some of the issues with clarity in scenes. The glowing parts of their bodies are a bit too bright for the darkness around them and make it hard to see with such dramatic contrast. I wouldn't decrease the glow light though, just simply increase the rest of the lighting, maybe with some diffused and dim area lights, somewhat pointing everywhere to prevent shadows. Maybe do a soft warm color somewhere between the other lighting's color and white, just so the general light doesn't overly saturate the scene with orange beyond what would be realistic. You could also play with simply adding some diffused lighting on the characters themselves instead of doing the whole scene, but I feel like an area light might be the way to go here. Even though it is a 'dark' scene, we should be able to see more. Think of it like a moonless night vs one with a full moon in the countryside. With the full moon it is still dark/nighttime, but you can still read the newspaper thanks to our eyes being able to adjust. In videos though, the viewer's eyes are limited in what they can adjust to simply because of the nature of digital screens, so you have to compensate with extra lighting. Currently your scene reads as a moonless night where it would be hard to even read a street sign and makes the scene equally difficult to read/understand for the viewer. I actually really enjoyed the timing and pacing, I think you've managed to find something that works, it's just the lighting preventing that from showing as well.

I`ve read the description, but I must say, the worldbuilding, models, and voice work are all pretty good! I think you are not seeing the good parts of your work due to working for so long on it, but I genuinely love all the little details and interactions, the greatest was the sigil when Connor loaded the gun, I would absolutely LOVE to read a sketchbook or a lore book on this series, and the 12 fps looks good, on par with some of the cen0`s low fps work, where he mimicked the GGST style, I would suggest looking at that for inspiration. Please, don`t burn yourself out, I was already interested on the "nuke parry" but this is a whole other level, I just want ya to succeed to see your work!

If it's any consolation for the work given, I think the result was more than worth it! It already feels close in quality to an indie commercial animation project, that's saying something. Ok, lore theories Chris: Is the swords guy, have been around for 77 years, is the seventh robot to get Dr Christopher's mind uploaded Connor: He is the gun guy, all his versions are agressive, probably the mind of connor corrupt when uploading robot and our connor is the only one sane Adler: He is probably the gadget guy, he seems to have create a swarm of robots with 0 will and basically slaves, He is the villain probably World building: I think this can be a post apocaliptic earth destroyed by war, some doctor uploaded their minds into robots to survive the catastrophe. Dr Adler Opus turm crazy and start creating an empire of clones, Dr connor got his robots corrupted and united with Chris to find their partners If the creator read this, i would like to know if i got somrthing correct 😊

I think this video was worth it. I really love the animation style, how quick and jerky they are but at the same time, they can be fluid and gentle, seeing them tilt the other's head before it activated. ho ly shit this is the cleanest, sickest, most badass visual style ive seen in AGES the use of those high contrast, solid color panels for key moments in the action is so stunning while still being READABLE! i see a lot of animations where a ton of the detail in the fight choreography is lost because it's just impossible to see at normal speed, but by going the opposite way with your direction you've made "lower detail" stuff look BETTER

Your animation skills are great, and there is already a marked improvement between this piece and your previous one. But you also have a great sense for comedy - the voice acting, the cutoff on "DONT YOU DARE-", the deadpan delivery - it all just works. And it specifically reminds me of Team Four Star and their Hellsing Abridged series - Chris gives me a lot of their Alucard vibes :D Add to that the subtle world-building and - JESUS CHRIST DUDE, YOU'RE SEVENTEEN? If you decide to stick with it, I can tell you're gonna go far. And don't listen to this obnoxious voice telling you it's not worth it - this is AWESOME.

Minus the stuttery movement this is so fucking coal. I love it, amazing VA work from YOURSELF on them. They both have their own personalities that really shien through, and the audio work is really good too. Just getting that FPS up will probably make it look smoother but at the same time... There's a bit of charm to the movement. Like the oldstyle stop motion movements and I do really enjoy it as well. Keep up the amazing work!

The world building here is incredible. So many hints but no questions answered yet I still feel like I understand what is happening through the personalities and dialogue. Genuinely impressive

im not the first to notice, but I like how their footsteps at the start tell us their personalities and how they handle problems, almost foreshadowing the rest of the video blue is careful and takes quiet steps, while orange almost stomps when walking blue tries to hack the door without making too much noise, orange just shoves his arm blade through and breaks it open blue is the one reminding orange to be careful, since orange is likely the one who usually caused trouble (in the past at least) orange straight up parries the lazer beams (no surprise there lol), blue is the one who avoids and evades blue's attacks were very calculated and precise, making sure to prevent any more lazers from being fired and having a sniper as his armament (pun intended), which is a weapon that requires careful aim, orange just shoves his hidden arm blade into the hostile robot and rips off its head blue is careful and calculated, while orange is bold, aggressive, and is not afraid to take risks, like him coming in even tho he was about to run out of power. I'm not sure if i'm looking into it too much, but this video portrays their personalities very well, and I like that a lot.
