The most cruicial and simplest aspect is, business sentiments. As there is a huge fear of, too many taxing and haunting with regulations, the small time private investors (like the sindhi finance,marwardi finance) which are collectively as big as formal banks, are not lending properly to MSMEs and other businesses. This has caused humongous cash flow problem in the country. This is not been mentioned by the academical economists, who has not done business in Indian eco system.

The fall in consumer spending is the cause. The factory output and electricity consumption have dropped along with other indicators as a result in consumer spending dropping. With the change in laws to crack down on fraud, corruption and non-performing companies, accumulating bad debts may have been a problem in the past (which is a good thing) which will eventually be corrected, but to fix the contraction in growth now, it is necessary to increase consumer spending. How do you increase consumer spending? The answer is to increase employment - people must earn money in order to be able to spend it. The problem is that while employment in industry in countries like Vietnam and Bangladesh is growing, it is shrinking in India. This is because manufacturers are not investing in India because of India's draconian employment laws, which makes employing Indians in India excessively risky, so they are investing in Vietnam and Bangladesh instead. If Modi wants "make in India" to become a reality, India's employment laws, and other impediments to doing business in India inherited from the British colonial, Nehru, and Gandhi era have to be removed and replaced with laws that are competitive with the rest of the world. Raising public spending would be absolutely the wrong thing to do. It is also more effective to ensure people have proper profitable jobs, rather than social spending by government as the latter cannot be sustained.

That is exactly the sort of thinking that somebody who has not done a day's work in their life, lives off corruption, nepotism, inherited previledge or patronage would do - in otherwords pure Nehruvian/Communist thinking. Anyway, I not say anything about cutting back on healthcare or education? No - absolutely not! On the contrary, where do Nehruvians/Communists think money to spend on healthcare and education comes from? For those who do not make money out of corruption or are not born into previlege, the answer is - from taxes paid by ordinary people who work to earn their living whether it is through income tax, goods and services tax, or inditect taxes. If there are too few people paying taxes because there are fewer people earning an income on which they can pay income tax, and fewer people able to spend money as a consequence which in turn causes a drop in indirect tax income, then there isn't going to be as much money to pay for healtchcare or education. The requirement for preventing spending on healthcare and education from falling is therefore to boost employment by making India a more attractive place to employ people and pay them decent salaries - hence the draconian anti-employment British Colonial era Indian labour laws which were intended to protect previledged British colonial civil servants, and which the Nehru dynasty kept for the benefit of their previledged babus in government, need to be repealed and replaced with more modern laws which allows others who are less previledged to find employment. Money does not grow on trees, nor can any government pull money from nowhere any more than you are able to pull money out of your rear end - the government's money comes entirely from the taxes that ordinary people pay. Before you fall back to that old Nehruvian staple solution of printing money, this doesn't increase wealth either - the net wealth stays the same, but the value of the currency drops (inflation) so in the short term, the worth of the total value of money in circulation is the same, and it discourages saving and investment and so destroys employment and tax revenues in the long term.

Well...I don't think BJP can be held responsible for the issues that has surfaced...rampant bad lending by PSU and NBFC were always there....at least BJP has taken steps to fix it. Government does not have magic wand to fix such fundamental problems. The discussion did not help on how India can improve on it's exports as that's the only way forward. On Pronoy Roys' conducting the show....I found it great and it should not be treated as an interview it's a discussion where host can also cross question or offer his suggestion...I don't find any parallel to ndtv's quality of discussion.

I worked In NBFC 2 years back and after going through Financials and All Data, it's kind of obvious at some point of time when bubble burst ultimately Banks will get hit (NBFC is like a local dealer in your area who gives you loan on higher int rate while taking loan from bank itself and earn in commissions and other income also). There NPA policy and writing off policy. And Sec 14A Read with Rule 8 and what Not.

Seriously. My heart cringed when Manohar Parrikar passed away. I'm not from Goa, but that man was how a politician should be - highly educated (IITian), simple lifestyle with focus on progress, excellent work ethic, zero cases of any kind let alone corruption, and even his opponents respected him - you need all these to run a diverse and complex country like India. He's the original and real Aam Aadmi. An apt future PM. A huge huge loss to India. Same goes with Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley. All these were groomed and mentored directly by Atalji and LK Advaniji they had the right values needed to govern. Also they lost Pramod Mahajan very early, else Maharashtra politics would have been quite different. So true that BJP has to look into their leaders for next 10-20 years. But better than congress as people who perform have opportunity to grow unlike family business of Congress.

Disagree wholeheartedly with recommendation on agriculture. What will help is - Sustainable organic farming, permaculture and agroforestry. This will deliver better value to the farmer rather than increasing volumes, effort and risk. Give consultancy and subsidy to do this. - Also, make a pan India law that ANYBODY should be allowed to buy agricultural land and become a farmer in ANY state of the country. Prevents fresh capital and ideas from coming in - also keeps poor farmers poor and trapped. - Demolish the APMCs in every state. One common market and everybody can participate at any point in the chain - including foreign companies. This is a self inflicted wound and stupid. - End MSPs for rice and other staples. Instead FCI can become a buyer for 1000s of varieties of agro products from coffee to cardamom to bespoke traditional rice varieties - all organic. They can then sell in domestic and global markets wherever the highest price is. This will encourage other private companies to do the same and try and create upward pressure on prices given to farmers. - Allow imports and exports of all agro goods. Get geographic protection labels for all our traditional crop varieties. Let Indian farmers focus on high value, small scale and organic products. Let farmers in America grow low value things like commodity rice and wheat. Position Indian agri products as high quality, expensive and premium for the world. Organic Indian Cardamom, Organic Mangoes of 100s of traditional varieties. We focus on feeding the country rather than making money, let US feed our country with subsidised staples while we focus on the high value stuff and get rich.

Good analysis. But the main problem is corruption, cheating and looting of wealth by politicians, business people by either corrupt means or cheating banks. Real hard working farmers, workers and Honest businesses are suffering. This problem is not created by present government, but was hiding in background for many years, and the growth we saw 10 years ago was a temporary one and reflection of the real situation on the ground. Another big problem is our people are divided and have their own agendas and protest for everything and anything.
