A viewer of the show did a NGD for one of the Guitar Center Exclusive Silverburst SG Standards. I worked with my Musician's Friend rep to get us a sealed-never displayed version after seeing how some of these looked in-store. Unfortunately, it seems the GC employee my MF rep called either sent us the wrong one or lacked the investigative skills to see the serious cosmetic issues this one had so we decided to return this one and get a Gretsch instead! We will see that review in a few weeks. This one was not love at first sight on the QC side of things!

I have had one of these for about a month now and love it, but I went to 4 different GC and they were in bad shape (people at GC not caring about how they treated them). So I had to try and order one 3 times before I got something that was obviously not a mistreated floor model.

I bought 3 Les Pauls from them to try to get one that was playable. I finally settled on the last one because it was the best of the 3 but still had a horrible buzz, so I filed a warranty claim and sent it to Gibson to sort out.

I hate to see that . I’m wanting to get a ‘61 SG in Cardinal red burst and Pelham blue burst , then possibly a Sweetwater 2023 Les Paul std. in Heritage Cherry 🍒 Sunburst but I would not be happy with all of the problems this one has . That’s a crying shame for a guitar that’s supposed to be much higher quality than the competition , not to mention much higher priced as well . Going to the store greatly reduces my options . I bought a new guitar online before and the color was not even close to what it was presented as so back it went . I don’t want to be shipping guitars back and forth though , I bought it because I wanted it to be a keeper ! I guess I’ll just have to give them a minute to settle down and hope things work out for me . I do really like the new colors and options but the guitar 🎸 has to be right or it’s all in vain , a total waste of time and money .

Oh, you can pay a fair bit more than that and not get a hard case. There are examples from PRS (Silver Sky for example), some models by Nik Huber, pretty much the entire product range from Novo, etc.

Sadly, it’s not that unusual. Very long story, but I tried a GC exclusive Gretsch Jet in our local GC store that was damaged. They had it on sale, but it was damaged. They REFUSED to discount it for damage because it was already on sale. Keeping the long story out of it, after a month of back and forth, I decided I had liked that guitar so much, I was just going to buy one since they were still on sale and at 48 month financing. I order what I think is a new one, go to pick it up, sure as shit it’s the SAME DAMAGED one I had tried to get a discount the month before. I’ll give the local guys credit, they mentioned it was damaged right away, and I ended up getting a better discount than I had wanted in the first place, but FFS. That should not happen.

There was a beautiful Custom Shop SG in orange metallic at the Agusta Guitar Center they let me play but sadly they never came up with a cord! Next time I take my wireless with me. Anyway, it needed a set up right out of the box, didn’t feel anything like my LPGT.

I'd pay the extra $200 for it, I love ebony fretboards! Dig the silver burst as well. Unfortunately, it's a Guitar Center exclusive and I refuse to give them so much as a dime. All my bad experiences have been with Musician's Friend, but are indicative of GC as well. I swore MF off way back in the early 2000's after they sent me 2 guitars in a row with a twisted neck, then refused to send a replacement and refunded me, the whole time customer service acting like I was being too picky. Several years back I decided to give them another chance and ordered a GC custom 335 gold top that was on sale. They sent it to the wrong address, it had been over 15 years since I lived there. I caught it and called them immediately to let them know there was a mistake. The CS rep said that he'd take care of it. Needless to say, he didn't fix it. When I called MF again they said that they would send me a replacement when they got the original one back. I told them it was unacceptable, I did what I could to prevent the problem, they're the ones dropped the ball. They finally agreed and sent a replacement. What I got was the guitar wrapped in some bubble wrap, stuck in a generic guitar box, and that put in a bigger box. The guitar was advertised as 'new' therefore I expected to receive it in an Epiphone box, with Epiphone packaging, and of course, whatever case candy Epiphone included. I don't know if the guitar they sent was a floor model or a return, but it certainly wasn't new. Called them to return it and once again, CS gave me a hard time and running me around. They finally conceded and I received a full refund. I've had a few other issues with them, it just seemed like every time I dealt with MF it just sucked for one reason or another. None of the guitars I bought from MF came set-up or even inspected by anyone, always still sealed with the original tape. Sweetwater, just the opposite. You get decent quality photos of 4 guitars at a time to choose from so you have a reasonable idea of what you're getting. Their website and checkout process is fast and easy, and they ship out quickly. Every guitar I've gotten has come with a reasonable set-up, some I haven't needed to touch. Since they photograph everything, you know that they are inspecting every instrument during that process so I'm not going to end up getting a guitar with a pretzel'd neck. You don't need to connect too many braincells to figure out why SW is doing so well, and GC/MF are struggling...

Yep, around Black Friday I bought a limited edition Black Fender Meteora with an ebony fingerboard from them, and I specifically checked on their site that it was listed as "new". Well, I got it delivered and the guitar was in beautiful shape, but I could tell I got a floor model from the pack job. Then I realized they didn't throw in the trem arm (which apparently is not the same as a Strat one). And after I checked the guitars serial number on Fenders database I realized they also did not send me the gig bag that I should have received. Had to play phone tag with them for a couple weeks to get all my stuff.

I went weekend before last to Nashville in search of a new SG, tried all the Standard and '61 SG's at the GC's, Gibson Garage, Sam Ash etc...just my opinion Gibson is cheaping out on builds. You could pick up 2 SG standards, same color, and they feel completely different. Most had really high bridge bridge heights and the bridge pickups adjusted really high. One Blueburst at the garage hadn't had the excess glue removed from the neck joint and it had just been painted over. 2 Standards had really bowed necks. All have acrylic inlays now. $1800 and you give me a gigbag and i have to pay to have it setup? I'd rather buy older used ones.

I love the SG vids you’re doing! But how disappointing it is to see the condition of this “new” guitar. And I’m sorry but a soft case with a 2k plus guitar just seems so disrespectful to the consumer. Every Gibson should have a hard case. It’s expensive enough to buy, no one wants to mess up their instrument and have to save up (a lot of us anyway) for another one.

I always buy from sweetwater personally. They show you pictures of the exact guitar your buying with it's individual weight and all. And do photo shoot of it again before it ships out

I have the Silverburst with an Ebony fingerboard. My only complaint about it is the lack of locking tuners. At that price point it should have come with them. I like the soft case but also at that price you should have the option of the hard case. Mine weighs only 5.5 lbs.

I have a 2003 Standard that I’ll die owning, but the contours on this one look way less pronounced. The points look duller and from the side view this has the same kind of profile as my old Epiphone G400 rather than the SG Standard I’m familiar with. Feels a lot less sexy

The silver burst finish is dope. The ebony board, white binding, and white MOP inlays is icing on the cake for this one. IMO some of the custom color SG's would've looked better with these options--namely the metallic silver mist.

I've never bought a guitar online from Guitar Center, but I've had good luck from Sweetwater and Sam Ash. I ordered a Gibson LP modern from Sam Ash online and it was flawless. Same with the PRS SE and Gretsch I got from Sweetwater. I did buy a Strat off the wall at GC.

@@rocketpigrecords3719 you can also buy that metal bar that mounts to the bottom of the pickup cavity and the mini humbuckers screw into. That, I’ve used Seymour Duncan’s antiquities set with the bar without any issues to make a Les Paul “deluxe” out of a p90 model.

This Silverburst would be a perfect candidate for a "Widow" treatment (especially since the silver top is semi-metallic). Translucent red, green, blue/purple, or even amber would look great as well as add a little vibrancy. Love the Ebony Fingerboard, IMO well worth the extra $200.

So mine came with a bent tone knob along with a bowed out neck and horrible intonation. However, took it to a luthier and it now plays like a dream. Sadly enough I had to go to 4 GCs to find one that wasn't even more messed up in ways that couldn't be fixed. However, mine does have the same finish issue by the nut. I think it's due to the wood expanding and the nut not expanding. Since the finish covers both you get that identical marking on everyone I've seen of this edition. The ebony fretboard and Silverburst finish though are really what make it worth the extra $200. GC sold me mine for $1,599 so I'm not upset about the purchase ($400 off).

GC back in 2011 had a limited run of SG Standards with zebra BB1 &3 & coil tapping. Colors were a little different. Mine is darker than the reg cherry color. Like a deep red or blood color. It’s my #1 & will never sell it.

I bought one of these blind, 2 weeks ago. I was shopping for an SG standard on Sweetwater when I happened to notice that my local Guitar Center sold a silverburst exclusive version and I immediately hopped on it like flies to $#!&. I went to the store the next day after work and bought it right off the shelf, they had apparently just got it in. My guitar does not have even a fraction of the QC issues yours does, it's stunning how bad the guitar you have in this video is. The only thing mine has is some of those tool markings on the sides of the fretboard, but it's just discoloration, no actual dents or finish cracks at all. I'm not trying to say Gibson doesn't have garbage QC - they absolutely do. But these guitars are excellent if you can get your hands on one in person before you buy it and do the inspection yourself.

Silverburst on an SG is different. It looks cool but I don't need one. The TV Yellow option would be my go to 61 style if I were in the market for another SG. The open grain finish is an eyesore for me though, not a fan and the silver really shows it up as silver is an unforgiving color and shows everything. I would have been apalled at all the tooling marks on this example WTH!!

wow, I don't feel so bad with my first full Les paul style kit I just built.. even my sloppy first time attempts aren't nearly as bad as some of the "woopsie" stuff on this example. Pretty disappointing from Gibson.. me in my first nitrocellulose spray and first time routing by hand, it's excusable.. but this is just wow..

I picked mine up within a day of it coming into the store. It was hanging on the very top row unplayed. It was in immaculate condition with no QC issues whatsoever, which is highly unusual for any Gibson. It is an incredible guitar. Happy with mine!

Having worked at Guitar Center I can say that the handling of instruments is very poorly done for the most part. Hard to get a young person making minimum wage to really have any concern for proper handling/shipping standards for the majority of the company. I’ve seen so many amazing instrument get damaged. It’s a sad reality of the company. It was so bad, I had to leave. Hate that about this one. Just another casualty of the broken system they have

Could you do a comparison of the Wolfgang's standard and the Wolfgang special

that's GC for you bc some of their employees aren't guitar people like the store name would imply. Gibson's reputation upholds the finest standard. i bought a strat last November and the first gc had one hanging a little too low it was ran through, scuffed, dents, filthy, fret sprout ... and serial number was about 2 years old (not that that was a big deal but it ages faster in the store 😂) and the second one in a known better location had a lot more well kept one that i happily purchased

I gotta say as an SG player I own five of them. I love them. I would love to get my hands on that but that is such a piss poor quality control issue. Whether it’s Gibson or guitar center how do you sell a new guitar in that condition and not give somebody a big discount. I would buy it not a full price. I don’t care if it gets beat up because I’m gonna beat the hell out of it anyway lol, I play out a lot. My guitars get used it’s a tool not a picture play it.

That guitar is obviously second hand. maybe a Gibson employee brought it in to work, then secretly swapped it for a new one.

Black Gibson finishes always look like crud to me honestly. But that one has its fair share of ugliness and blems.I would be sending that turd back immediately.

I got this today. I really dig the open pour finish on the silverburst. I also love the neck profile. Not a fan of the slim taper
