Finding motivation is a tricky thing. Quite often I don't feel like going to the gym, making videos, or getting up before sunrise. This is the only trick I've found that works to get motivated.

@@WhyNotIdk I keep reminding myself that my brain plays games with me and that at the end of the day I can either feel really bad, because I listen to it or really good, cause I overcame the noise and focused on what I originally set to do. With time and practice, it gets easier, but this "laziness" never goes away. You just need to keep challenging it. Keep you eyes on the price and you will be okay. :)

Dude this is what Im saying. Youre not alone. Im 17. Im not allowed to walk anywhere or run anywhere. My day consists of waking up early, going to school, then after, Im either with my bf til he goes to work or Im home. I have no friends aside from my bf. So I just scroll on fb and in between, I take care of my grandparents. There are no mountains to climb on. Im in Florida. The sidewalks stop every so often in places and it sucks. I got a bike but my grandparents isolate me anyways so whats the use. Im always in the house if I aint in school. Its really hard to find the motivation to do anything if its the same thing everyday. School, home. No in between. We have a van that we've had for like 10 years. It barely works. Everytime we turn it on, we risk it shutting off in the middle of the road or it doesnt turn on at all. I have no form of transportation at all to go just me alone. We cant afford a new car. We cant afford insurance so I can get my drivers license. I only have my permit. Im in the most shittiest state physically due to being in the house all the time and even mentally, I get lonely being I dont have nobody to talk to or no way to go places, and I want to become a United States Marine but at this rate, if its the same shit, I dont think Ill ever get the fuck up to do such shit. Theres nothing there to go to thatll keep me motivated. Florida is the most shittiest state imo and Ive grown up in it. Sorry this is long. Thanks for listening. Just, youre not alone. I dont know what to do neither. I feel like we both need to know how to get out there when theres nothing like these views he sees, or the hikes he goes on. Not all of us have access to such beautiful sceneries or whatever it may be. Ah well.

Destiny Parker thank you for sharing almost everyone else ive talked to online dosent seem to understand because for them having places to walk and stuff is normal , when i talk to my parents about it they act like im crazy, all i want is the small freedom of just being able to have somewhere to jog, but we have no where and we have no busses , subways or any other form of transportation and town is about a 2 hour walk from home, they don’t understand how i feel because they got the freedom to walk to school and they had areas where they could go out for a run whenever they want to, i basically wasted my entire childhood on my phone, my mom complains about it but theres nothing better to do

I totally get what you mean because I used to be in a similar situation (I guess most people are at some point). But you gotta think of it that way: use whatever goals you have (even if they are vague, like getting out of your city eventually) as a motivation to do better in school and to make the best out of your situation. This is the time where you can still change so much about yourself and decide how your future is going to look like. If you fck it up now and don’t do well in school you probably aren’t Going to get into college, so you might not get your dream job etc. .... So do the best you can and find a balance between your school life and your social/ fun life. That will hopefully keep you going (at least it did for me).

Awesome video as always! Speaking of motivation, I heard something one time that's helped me: "Discipline and motivation are two entirely different things. Do you think anyone is 'motivated' to do shit they don't want to? Establish discipline to do what you know you have to do, and the motivation will come from completing it. You don't have to be motivated to get shit done." That's an approximation, I don't remember the source or the exact quote, but that idea has helped me in the past - maybe it'll help someone else too. 2:20 - Dude, you have no idea how much THIS comment resonates with me: "I realized it's always when I let my feelings dictate my actions, instead of allowing my actions to dictate my feelings." I run a nationwide "stutterers helping stutterers" program, and we talk all the time about the interaction between behaviors and emotions. Overcoming stuttering is a tough, long process that forces us to do things that we really don't want to - but the results are SO worth the work. But I'd never heard it described in exactly that way, and hearing you put it into those terms REALLY struck a chord with me. Keep making awesome content, man! 👊

OMG! I was just having this thought - literally - this morning. I was thinking about what drives us as humans, and why we fail so often to complete tasks or get started. We based them on how we feel. DO IT ANYWAY. :) Love this Jake! I just love your videos. I'm so glad I saw you on Alex and Adrien's channels. :)

Thanks for this great advice. I needed this today. And your video came first in my feed. I have been working so hard on a project for last three months, it was something I thought I could never do, but I finally did it. I was so happy, then I showed it to my team mate, and he was like meh.. it’s not a big deal. When I was not able to do it, he always said this is the main thing I need to do for our work to be successful, now that I did it, his reaction was completely opposite of what I expected. I thought he would be happy. I felt so disappointed because of his reaction. It made me feel so small and worthless. All of the hard work, all-nighters have no value! All of my motivation to work vanished, but after watching your video, I thought even though he did not appreciate my work, I will not lose motivation , I will just start working on the next thing, and it made me feel good. I also realised that, no matter how hard I work on something, others might not see the value of it, and that’s ok, what matters is that I did my best, I successfully did the project. Feeling small just because of one person’s reaction is not healthy for me. I will not waste time on this and move on. Thank you.

Jake, we have all been there (at least “more mature guys”) It’s more tough when you are young and without a family. Once kids come along you will be totally motivated for 5 am or earlier starts. Great video!

Totally agree. Back in the days I was sleeping till 10am, after the first kid show up I have started to wake up 7am. Now the second kid is on the way and I'm thinking that 6am will be the best time to wake up and organize my day. Once you wake up in the quiet morning you will understand how marvelous is the start of the day. Thank you Jake for the video.

Love the message man! It's so true. This last month something has really been on my mind - Right thinking leads to right action, which leads to right feelings. Now, this is a small tangent from your video but I think a very useful and relative one. To sum that all up there's this quote by Steven Furtick that I've been chewing on - "The thoughts you keep in a loop, determine the direction of your life." Just thought I'd share that because I feel its incredibly powerful, if you choose to really dissect it.

"Let your actions dictate your emotions...." the best words in this video!! Yaaass to always waking up at sunrise! I realize I do this even if I don't want to because work starts at 7am for me 😂😂 but my body's so used to it that even on my days off or when I'm on vacation, waking up super early just feels amazing. Love that mini coffee press by the way, need that for my "camping kitchen". Do you recommend?

Hi Antoinette!!! Thanks so much! 🙏 haha ya it's been a while since I've had an early job so now I have to force myself 😂 But yes the Aeropress is seriously the most perfect coffee maker ever! ESPECIALLY for camping! And now there's the "Aeropress Go" which is even more compact 🤘

Same!! I have always been a night person and love working late into the night. I definitely never intended to say that morning is the only time to be productive.
