We are Tony and Jane and we are living in and renovating our old Relais De Poste/Coaching Inn.
We live in the middle of France in a region called The Berry.
We have over 40 rooms to renovate so there is plenty of work to be done. We also love to trawl the local Brocantes, flea markets and antique shops for quirky furnishings and furniture.
We love to find out about local history and often visit other peoples buildings including our friends’ Chateaux.

You live in a lovely town and thank you for the tour and flooding update. You can understand why people needed to build these towns by water for survival. However it is a scary thing to watch when you’re at the mercy of Mother Nature. Glad things are better!

So glad to hear that the flood levels have receded and that sunshine is in the forcast.. Also it looks like your chickens (whenyou get them) will be safe in their new home. I'm always surprised at how little foot traffic is around your village. And once you open you gate and enter your property it's like you're in a whole new world. Your own personal paradise.

Glad the water has gone down and hopefully will continue to do so. Was paying attention while you're showing us where the road is clear, and the water has gone down, and just like that you say - there's a slope where people used to do their clothes washing like you would say and today is Sunday! I mean what a reality check to someone here in the U.S. It never ceases to amaze me to think about all the history the buildings, roads, and bridges your town has seen. Thank you for sharing - always a joy when a new video goes up 🙂

Good morning Jane, so pleased the water is subsiding so quickly. The sun shining and it all is looking good. I can imagine how troubling it was to see the water rising. Water has it's own way of going, you cannot stop it!! Your town is so lovely, thank you for showing it was most enjoyable to watch. I wish you well, no damage to talk about, just stay away and let the sun dry out the grounds. Well, now you have seen consequences of flooding and you can take the necessary precautions to avoid that in future. Do have a lovely day, and it was so nice of P & S to take you and Tony for lunch. They are really such lovely friends to have. Many blessings, take care. Kind regards, Elize.

🍎Jane and Tony Fabulous rainy rainy day in our part of the world! My grandfather was a ship captain and he always said the only way to stop where water is coming in especially if you live by the ocean like my mother and father did, is to barricade the entire area. Which means you have to build a structured concrete wall. Since you're by the river, it's just like being by the ocean so you need a higher sea wall. In your case, a higher river wall. The entire length of your property at least 3 feet tall, then all your water issues will be resolved, if you don't, then you must expect the water to come in. Only if you have reason to want access to the river, then perhaps you can buy huge beautiful rocks to stop a lot of the water from coming in. Your river is all nature and as you know and see, if there is a situation 50 miles away, your river will overflow. Your husband is good with concrete so all he has to do is make a higher wall. It's a simple solution to the problem. All you need is a lot of concrete blocks, fill the holes up and layer them on top of each other as if though you're making a structured wall in a house, then your problem is solved. Ciao! 🌴

Glad to see some relief. I sure hope the raging torrents die down quickly. We're also in a flat area and have had flooding just from rain ( the nearest water channel is over 200m away). It's pretty scary. We can easily burn out a sump pump with rain like that. I remember reading that the Netherlands sometimes chooses to allow some farmland to flood, in extreme weather events - really amazing.

The raising of retaining wall might not stop the water but at least you can't fall in and have a nice place to sit and when it's normal levels can watch the water go by. I am sorry your region is having such flooding is terrible. The gov't should recognize that climate change is causing this and be more proactive about making plans in helping areas cope with it instead of just leaving them in it. I am sure there is a way to divert water if and when it comes. Funny enough I have seen a video in France by Gorogoro Kitchen recently about an area of Ile-de-France that was a waterways was under water 2000 years ago and you can tell it was too. I hope things will recede and go back to normal levels and your community can recover from it. Thank you for keeping us updated Lady Jane :) you are the most informed community watch I have seen sure they appreciate it :)
