Not quite a Rolex Explorer The Sub $100 Parnis! Watch Review (Giveaway No Longer Active)

I bought a $99 Parnis as a dry run for eventually owning a Rolex Explorer 1. This sent me down the rabbit hole about why an inexpensive or homage watch wouldn't satisfy my need for a real Rolex. This Parnis had a real surprise for me. Here's a hint "COSC"

Interesting review - but you know you didn't get the Explorer homage?, you have the wrong dial, they do one that is much closer to the original. I would certainly wear that Parnis and would be terrified to scratch/lose or be robbed of a real Explorer. Of course the Parnis will not appreciate in value like a Rolex - but I can think of lots of things I could do with the $6k saving.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, I kind of liked this one because it wasn't the exact clone...for some reason I just liked the look of this dial. There are definitely times I would not wear a real Rolex, and the Parnis would be a good option for sure. In my particular case, I have lots of alternatives so I was glad to give this one away :)

Ah, the reassuring sound of the Miyota rotor. Parnis make great cases. By the time I get a trophy watch I am afraid I will be atrophied! You should try a watch by Sea-gull.

I currently have a loose Seagull movemnt on my bench ...It is gorgeous, but manual wind. Does have a whiplash regulator, though :)

This watch is based on the Tudor black bay 36 which is based on the rolex explorer. Look it up. It looks exactly like the Tudor.

I'm not going to try to talk you out of a Rolex, but as someone that's had one, they're really not that great. It never kept time with the kind of accuracy it was supposed to have. Eventually it broke and I couldn't afford to fix it. I traded it for an Omega, which I didn't like and eventually sold. I never really liked when people would notice it and make a fuss about it, even though it was just a basic Submariner. Once a croupier at a table in Atlantic City made a big deal out of it, and then everybody at the table now knew what I was wearing. If someone gave me one today as a present I'd be happy to get it, but I don't think I'd make a special effort again to get one. Just my two cents. I'm really not trying to wreck your dream. Just telling you my experience.

Parnis should use a quiet Seagull movement. The St16 would be ideal

Try The Tisell Explorer Homage. I loved mine. I said Loved as I wanted another watch and was torn . I was just watching an ebay auction for another Tisell model explorer 39mm . I like the matte looking dial on this Parnis example. The Tisell was a Glossy. 1 for 1 or Very Similar to the Rolex.

I totally agree. I want to vomit when I hear about someone's Rolex. You can tell when they're buying into the name and nothing else. It's like the ass who drives a Mercedes because they think it's the best, only to find out it's a money pit.

I like the review. However i think something is overlooked. Parnis sells 2 qualitys in watches. Premium via their website and crap or low cost if you like. Resellers on ebay buy it and sell it for more. Go buy on parnis.org only. That way you pay like $150 but, you get premium quality. With that one surely you will not hear the movement like in this video. Kind regards, Gen

Do you think the lumes on parnis watches are good or bright? And long lasting like the seiko lumes? Or not that much?

Definitely not in the league with Seiko...Hard to beat Seiko in the lume department. I keep planning to get a Seiko with really good lume to do time-lapse comparisons.

Nice review! A question: Do you know if it actually makes a difference where you buy a Parnis from? On their website they claim to have the "better quality watch" while sellers from eBay or AliExpress have a "lesser overall quality" is that true?

Thanks! You know, I am not certain...Someone commented and mentioned that Parnis has two tiers of quality...I haven't investigated that yet, but it might explain what you are hearing.

I also understand fulfilling the need psychologically for a real Rolex. I never buy these cheapies as stand ins for another watch, I appreciate them for what they are on their own merits.

The one thing thing they say and is true. Your really aren't spending say $6300 dollars on the Rolex. As when you want your money back go to the ATM and cash out of the Rolex.
