You're a brave man getting that close to geese, as a north american I like to joke that the rage and hatred from Canadian Geese makes up for the courtesy and politeness of the rest of the country. Great video as always.

This is very nice Roger. What I really like about you is the way you just go out and photograph whatever you have access to. No grand vistas, no mountains in dramatic light, no filtered sunrise or sunsets or 10 stop ND lake or water. Just the oridanry stuff that everyone has access to. Well done mate.

Cheers Lensman. I had a vision in mind at first of a swan print looking direct into the camera and burning all the areas out except the swans face. Hence the contrast and grain idea. The rest is in the video. I didn't quite get what I envisioned but almost. I didn't fancy getting on my knees either! All that poop. I guess I will have to visit many times and shoot many rolls before I get what was in my mind. Thanks as always.

That 3000 camera reminded me to mention the very bizarre yet cool and cheap EOS EF-M. This one is special as it’s the only manual focus only (with split prism finder) eos camera canon ever made.

@lensman5762 Жыл бұрын
I can make Double X as flat as pancake with HC110 1+63. It is actually quite a versatile emulsion, though it is at its best with a little contrast.

Outstanding work with the XX there. I've not tried myself, but might have a go now. HP5 is a bit fiddly when pushing a couple of stops. My go-to developer for this is HC-110. DDX would be even better, but it's kind of overkill for HP5 - better saved for the likes of Delta 3200 and Kodak P3200. Incidentally, XX is back in the news because of the new Christopher Nolan film. Some scenes were apparently shot on 65mm(!) XX film stock that was specially made by Kodak at the request of Nolan. One of the first and only times this has ever been done. Should look incredible.
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Жыл бұрын
XX back on the movie scene! Thats awesome. I watched a 2007 B&W film called "Control". It's about Ian Curtis, the lead singer of a band called Joy Devision. Beautifully shot but the info said it was on colour kodak film, must have converted it to BW for release. I thought it would have been XX. Worth a watch.

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Yes, I've seen that one. Great film. I'm a big fan of JD, and of the director, Anton Corbijn. Spent most of my teens reading the music press, so his photography made a big impression on me, escpecially his work in lith printing. I keep meaning to try it myself, but a lot of the paper has been discontinued.

You're asking for technical Difficulty 'PUSHING' film when taking SWANS when it is already difficult to retain tones in the white feathers. in my 'PRESS SNAPPER DAYS' I would 'Push' when doing Soccer on very overcast days when the Subject/Brightness Range was LOW -- never do it in SUNSHINE or on High Contrast Subjects or when you want to retain 'White Tones' Just my 2 pence worth ! FOOTNOTE : When ILFORD XP1 400 first came out as a 'Wonder Film' which could be rated to 1600 ASA with 'same Processing Time' I took some on a Soccer Match , rated it 1600ASA and the results were RUBBISH -- dreadfully THIN negs - HORRENDOUS GRAIN POOR DEFINITION and I got into trouble with the Sports Writer over the Print Quality as i had to print onto Grade 5 to get anything Don't believe what the Manufacturers say !

The canon shoot was frustrating as the swans were swimming around so much dipping their heads under water and that camera is slow at focusing.
