Hey everyone! I watched this movie twice now and I have some thoughts. I was honestly looking forward to a new galaxy and new stories, but it looks like this is going to be a disappointment.

Sad to see for sure… I wonder if anyone can help him wrangle his ideas, or like some people said, there’s a lot on the cutting room floor for the #releasethesnydercut fandom… but think that was more DC fandom. Great case on why this isn’t resonating though. No one to attach the audience to. 😞 all creatives can learn from this last year for sure!

I started watching Jupiter Rising again after seeing this, and while that movie is definitely flawed, it does its world building and characters and action so much better than Rebel Moon.

Same actually, I remember I watched Jupiter for my birthday and me and my friends came out thinking WTF, but looking back, it actually created quite and interesting and intricate world. I feel like they just didn't do a great job of selling this world to the audience

@@thekillerprawn yeah, i wish there was a way to recut Jupiter into a better movie, but it's probably not possible. The hybrid wolf guy looks kind of silly, although the idea of crossbred humans is very cool. It had all the pieces for a classic sci fi film but just missed the mark. The story is actually very interesting, harvesting planets once they reach maximum population to keep the rulers immortal.

What if Kora was just a plain Farm Girl on the moon. The Moon wasn’t a piece of crap looking dark but instead a prosperous, well developed Solar Punk type of society on the moon? But self isolated from the rest of the universe. The people are basically pacifist and Kora was the sorta outsider who dreams of explore the universe not knowing what dangers is out there. But then the mother world invades the colony and forces the people to slavery to mine for the moon for resources. Kora witnesses her friends and family die right before her while escaping the colony. Throughout the movie she goes through survivor’s guilt and she joins the rebels and what if it was the rebels that recruits the warriors and Kora tags along. In the end the rebels, warriors, and the colonizers join forces to fight against the empire and it sparks a massive revolution throughout the universe. Kora grows to be a strong willed character and uses her new found strength and courage to fight against the empire. I have a title for this version of Rebel Moon I call it Fires of Revolution.

Add more sex and violence and then Zack’s onboard 😂 Seriously does sound good, definitely seems like Zack wants to do something other than a revolution type movie though with supernatural powers and stuff he’s introduced here with the life giver. Makes me think of like the old game Red Faction. So much opportunity here and sad to see what we got. Freedom is a universal human right and desire and lots of stories to tell in that regard. @@NerdDumb I sorta have an idea of the Life Giver thing Zack is trying to do. Like maybe kinda go in the route of Final Fantasy 7 with Aerith and the ancient ones. Also there’s like a Harbinger of Death too that’s kinda like the Palpatine of the Empire. He wants to have the power of life and death to control who lives forever and who dies. If you want to do Star Wars-Dune-40K-Samurai-Western try to do a better version or at least a fresh take on it. The lack of character arcs and the excessive slow-motion was my biggest annoyance with the movie. Would've worked much better as a limited series in 10 episodes.

One thing that annoyed me a lot were the scenes with the cervical spine section gun. It showed me that Snyder both thinks that I cant understand what it does without visual clarification, and also be incredibly wrong. The screen shows you the moronic concept that the gun will section the cervical spine completely by mechanical means, no cautherization or injection, just a metal rod sectioning the thing. But by explaining that, he makes it clear he doesnt know physiology. You do that to a person, they will die nonetheless. Be it because you lose autonomic nerve stimuli, respiratory failure, hypotension and shock, and also CSF will just drain and you might herniate the brain. Think at the most basic level when you hung someone, you break the C1 spine and cause a very similar thing. So yeah, he told me "here dummy, let me explain" while also being completely wrong. Also Im pretty sure the gun worked differently between the initial scene and the final scene, but whatever.

@@NerdDumb Don't worry because I am not generalizing that point at all. Tbh, even if you didn't know that, didn't you feel it was obvious how that gun worked to paralyze someone? I feel the screen was just a bit condescending. After that, the physiology of that would only annoy those in the science field 😅 Nonetheless, I have not even rewatched it to see if the gun actually sequenced differently between scenes.

The problem is that I think Zack Snyder did a movie that as always is a too long movie, which is becoming a thing of Zack Snyder, and so he cut the story in half and did two movies insteade of doing something like a mini series, since the whole thing is for Netflix and not movie theaters.

I honestly don't understand when some people are saying that the only good thing in Rebel Moon are the visuals, because even the visuals aren't that good. Snyder has an eye for the visuals usually, I'll admit that, and he has done some pretty great work on that, for example In Watchmen and 300. But, to be honest, Rebel Moon just sucks in all the possible ways. Story is bad, script horrible, characters thinner than paper, CGI looks quite bad in many scenes, even the actual set design looks very bad in my opinion.

Yes that lens that Zack custom made was malarkey imo. Then we got Gareth Edwards’s making The Creator on a, basically, over the counter camera that you and I can buy, and it looks phenomenal! Seriously, makes me excited for the future of film making when the barrier of entry is so much lower and affordable. The movie was rushed, because Snyder only has two movies to tell the full story. I wish it would have been a series, so he (director) could slow things down and develop the characters more. The visuals were amazing. I do think that Snyder should co-write with someone, to shore up his weaknesses (writing).

As bad as this film is....and it's HORRIBLE...it's difficult to "conversate" when "conversate" is not a word. It's "converse" buddy. It's "converse". But otherwise I totally agree that this movie was absolute ass. Then again, it's Snyder so...what'd we expect? His only good film was when he reworked someone else's knowing that he had to bring the heat, and that's justice league. But he STILL MADE A SLO MO SESAME SEED and I cannot forgive that

Hey, thanks for asking. Imo, without any comparisons, there would still be lacking a lot of material that I like in stories, or that stories actually need. You can see some examples in these comments, like any characterization at all. But one rule with me and my channel, I will never say to not watch something. @@NerdDumb IMHO the only reason Dune makes a bit better impression is because it is based on a book, not some improvisation written by somebody who wants both to direct and screenwrite. These are completely different skills and I am astonished why so many recent sci-fi movies are directed and story-written by the same person. Prime bad example is the last 3 StarWars. Dune is more original, not some patchwork of well known movies. But it completely does not click with me... as well as all the movies by the same director... It is not repulsive,... Ii just don't care.

@@zzip0 oh I get that for sure. And the Dune books are whacky as all hell as well. So I’m interested in what Denis will do with part 2. I loved the Blade Runner movie too, so it would make sense I liked Dune. But you’re right, it’s an adaptation of something that’s already written. I would have loved to see how Zack and co. Write Rebel Moon. I know it started as Star Wars story, but how did it change? Interesting thoughts for sure. Slowly paced sci fi is not for everyone for sure.

@@NerdDumb Well, the new BladeRunner is very, very thin philosophically compared to the original, and surely the music score of the original is one of the greatest contemporary music scores. BR 2049 can not compare, it is OK movie, I went to see it in a cinema and went to cinema for the first time in 20 years. I really wanted to like it... I do not hate it, but again... I don't care as much, as I would like to.

Man, I know. Battle Beyond the Stars is one of the movies I've heard people referencing as something like this, and that was from 1980. I would say, I did watch the movie twice and I did put a lot of thought into my analysis. Although, I did ramble off this video, I did really think and thought I showed examples of good things on how to improve this piece. If you liked it, bless you, for real! I'm glad you did, and you're allowed to! lol I get seeing all the hate and think its a dogpile (and my thumbnail I did have some fun ;p) but I hope you did see some light in my content and maybe somewhat of an argument. Dude I was stoked for a new, serious, sci Fi universe too. Just more apathy. It's sad. But we got Dune coming so I'm stoked for that. And I'll be here for Rebel Moon Part 2: Scargiver too! hahaha
