Not Strutting His Stuff

The plaintiff says she brought her car to the defendant’s shop for a manufacturer’s recall, but it sounded terrible when she picked it up. She’s had to rent and borrow cars, so she’s suing for what she’s owed. Typical. Someone brings in a vehicle with a flat tire, which you fix. After that, they want to blame you because a month later the engine's blown, the tranny is bad and the brakes aren't working. The kicker is that the vehicle is 20 years old and has a salvage title, which generally means that it was ready for the crusher at the junkyard. I spent 30 years in auto service. When I first got into the business, everything was pretty straightforward. Towards the end, almost on a daily to weekly basis, people would bring in an old beater that hadn’t seen a shop in years wanting just an oil change. When they picked it up, they would claim that their A/C or radio was working when they brought it in and now want it fixed for free. Some would authorize extensive repairs only to claim that they never authorized the work when it came time to pay the bill. I finally decided that I had enough and it was time for a new line of work. This lady didn’t get the car checked out BEFORE purchase and now wants the results of her poor decision passed on to someone else. SMH! Thank you, Judge!

I work at a bodyshop...we only do the work that is accident related! Cars have come in with massive oil leaks, check engine lights, and a host of other issues. That's not our responsibility. But if the customer asks about it, we will.either do the repair, or send them to a shop that will. If they did rust repair on the strut tower, that has nothing to do with with the engine. However, them putting that old ass car in 4wd probably didnt help😂

Yes, Judge, I've bought a car from an auction that wasn't as is. We had 24 hrs to get it checked out, and the car could be returned for issues with the engine or transmission issues. The car had transmission issues, but the mechanic said it was still worth it for the money (we had a mechanic appointment lined up). Luckily, a little Stop Leak took care of it.

A dealership service department would not touch a car for recall work if the oil light is on and the engine is knocking. The oil light indicates low oil pressure. After the recall service, it sounds like she ran it low or even out of oil. Some people should only buy new cars.

Hard to convince a judge when a vehicle has a salvage title like this one. That type of vehicle is essentially for pulling useable parts and then scrapping. It would just have recurring problems/breakdowns with expensive repairs required to try & keep it working safely on the roadway. Not worth it unless it is a classic model vehicle to fully restore.

A vehicle with 100,000 isn't necessarily old, especially a Nissan. If it's properly maintained and not driven hard all the time, you can get 250-300,000 miles on it. Take care of your vehicle people, you depend on it.😊

Not true anymore. Nissans have gone way downhill, after about 2010 or so. They are now pretty low in the ratings. The CVT transmissions they keep insisting on using are pieces of junk.
