Can a Jeep Grand Cherokee (Wk2) be a "ROCK CRAWLER?" Let's find out! Follow along as my buddy Mike from ‪@ownyourrecreation‬ and myself meet up with the Washington chapter of the Jeep Nuts crew as we venture out to a rock crawlers paradise called "Funny Rocks" located in South Cle Elum, WA. this trail will definitely test my skills as an off-roader and my vehicles capabilities by pushing my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wk2 to do something it was never designed to do, ROCK CRAWL!!! Man! So I was just on 6 Monkeys website and signed up for the veterans run this weekend. I wish I’d have found your channel sooner! I’ve wanted to hit “funny rocks/moon rocks” for a while but haven’t seen any WK2 s hit it. And now that I have seen this video I know I have no issue. Unless my limited is different than your GC cause I have a stock lift and only 33s. If you have the air suspension that would make a little difference. And I have no undercarriage protection or rock sliders but I’m not worried about it. Stoked to see you out there this weekend! And I have seen mikes Jeep all over the place in the northgate area. Always wanted to talk to him about it but never saw him in a convenient area to chat! Any how my man awesome video. I’ll be watching more today.

That’s awesome dude. It’s going to be sick hopefully the weather doesn’t make the rocks too slippery haha. I actually have the dobinsons full suspension coil lift on 33’s. It’s doable just gotta pick the right line. I didn’t really hit anything underneath on this run.

Remove your rear sway bar and set up your front sway bar with quick releases. With both bars disconnected the WK2's have quite a bit of articulation !!!

I carry with me a tow strap, tree saver, two kinetic ropes, some extra snatch blocks, traction boards and a shovel. My buddy Mike has his winch. I haven’t installed one yet.

With the type of trail riding you consistently upload, it seems like you’d be much better suited for something even more capable like a Wrangler, 4Runner, etc. Curious why you’ve gone with a WK2?

You are absolutely correct. And that was the route I was going to go. But I purchased this wk2 before I was interested in off-roading and then I saw what people were doing with them and I decided to build this thing out and it kind of became my niche. Now I just want to see how far I can push it and hang with the big rigs. And how crazy can I build this out.?You may see some upgrades in the future that may put me in the same class as those wranglers anyway. But all in all you are correct. I’m just having fun with this build.

How is a 4 runner more capable than a Grand cherokee Trail Hawk? Right off the start the GC has more horse power just in the penastar not even mention 5.7 , 6.1 and 6.4 that you can get with the GC. , Next I have qudra drive 2 same as a wrangler, but wrangler has open differentials, my Grand has lockers, 4 runner has a track. The only thing better the wrangler has over the GC is approach and departure angle, most wranglers and GC have the same 4 wheel drive system . GC is the best universal jeep you can get , 4 runner is ok but nothing under the hood , wrangler is probably the best 4 wheeling but it's like driving a brick even with the 392 in it not built for speed. The GC gives fantastic 4 wheeling and heat under the hood ✌

Thank you. It’s a little hard to keep the momentum in rock mode because as soon as I lose traction the Quadra drive system wants to slow down and think for a second haha

Hey, nice video. You mentioned “the quadradrive system.” Did you mean quadratrac2? I see you have a single exhaust which means v6 and I believe quadradrive2 only came with the hemi. And are those 18 or 20 inch rims? Thanks!

Thanks for getting back so quick! I was checking some of your videos. Looks like you have quadratrac2. Which makes that rock climb impressive with no rear locker. What virtually all wk2s have is brake lock differential. Acts similar to a limited slip. When one tire starts spinning the computer brakes it and sends power to the other side. It’s an open diff. Better than just straight 4Wd. IMO, the best system by jeep was the quadradrive 2 system in the previous generation GC. Have fun!
