I just put mine in and have the same issue. The ending of the opening is also violent. It shakes. I ordered them from Amazon. They are StrongArm 6304 with the blue label, made in Turkey. I may remove them and go back to my original ones. This is too much hit or miss to keep ordering them until I get a pair that opens smoothly like i1Tesla's do. UPDATE - I put the original struts back and looked at the StrongArm struts I bought. Factory packaging with "StrongArm" all over it and labeled with a sticker "6304". But the blue label on the strut says "46304 030/18" and "Made in Turkey". Not what the Amazon picture shows. I did use Brian's Amazon link. So, maybe there is a manufacturing difference with less cushioning. Beware! I may just give up. It's not too bad without the autopen. I still have to hold the phone with one hand and the pizza with the other. Put the phone in my pocket and use the same hand to lift the frunk lid.

I just got the Strongarm 6304 off Amazon as well, and have the exact same issue. I’m thinking about trying a different brand.

@@mhtjc A couple of people on Tesla Owners Online mentioned they had the same bouncy problem and noticed they had mounted the struts upside down, with the gas cylinder at the bottom. So did I, I switched them around (Like in Brian's video) and no more bounce. Mine are Strong-arm 6304's.

I see, my struts are oriented correctly. But I’m noticing as I use it more often, the struts seem to be getting slightly weaker and it’s not bouncing as much anymore.

Yep, I have the strongarms on my 3 and my Jeep. I love them both.

I think Tesla just didn't want the hood doing this for liability reasons since it could open up into something and doesn't have a safety reverse feature to move it the opposite direction automatically if an obstacle is detected.

Funny yet helpful.

You know what’s really odd, the Strong Arm 6304s bounce on my wife’s car. One thing I haven’t tested yet - swapping them to see if it’s the strut or the car. I’m going to swap the EVANNEX one’s into my wife’s car and the 6304s to my car to confirm that.

Teslatunity that’s a great idea! It will be interesting to see if there is a difference.

i1 Tesla Brian, always warns against any substitutions, and that's even more important when it comes to the automatically opening trunk!

What I meant was ... my wife has the StrongArm 6304s that Brian recommends and you can see work well from Marc’s video here as well. My car has the EVANNEX struts. My wife’s frunk bounces and mine opens smoothly. I’m going to swap the frunk struts between my wife’s car and my car to determine if the 6304s bounce always or if it’s my wife’s car.

Just curious, what was the result of swapping the struts?
@TheMalbroughs5 жыл бұрын
I did some research on this when I first saw Brian's video. The original Tesla strut pushes 45 lbs. The Strong-arm 6304 pushes 105 lbs. I'm sure the one your friend has pushes much more. I may try the Stabilus SG314049 which pushes 92lb, for an even safer option. They are available at my local O'REILLY auto parts for $19 each, so I may give it a try soon. I can always return them is they don't work.

$5.37?!? $8.99?!?!? I just bought a similar set for the frunk and engine lid on my 1990 MR2T and the full kit was $165 for the three struts. The one for the engine lid has unique brackets on each end for an extremely clean install and OEM look and feel but shit - the difference in price is fucking STAGGERING!!! I agree with you that you’re are obviously superior to your friend’s. I also agree that Elon’s research team absolutely should have identified hood struts as being common to higher class vehicles but remember that Tesla backed themselves into a corner they were barely able to get out of concerning the Model 3’s cost. If they are included on the Model S but not on the Model 3, that may have been as a result of trying to hit the specific low number on the MSRP of the vehicle .

I got the strong arm 6304 , but they don't open Auto, still have to lift a bit

Dear Marc, thanks for the video. I've tried with i1 to get a more detailed description of the struts, but he never answered. Back here in Germany we have different part numbers. Would you mind giving me the exact Jeep Grand Cherokee Model (year, engine) those struts fit, so I can double check with our Jeep dealer here. Also any specifics on the "power" (I heard 100 pounds, but that sounds way off) of the struts would also be very very helpful. Hopefully you'll help a brother out from the old continent :) Thanks

The only info I have is from what is listed on amazon's website. Other than that, I don't know anything specific about the struts (other than they work). :)

Never use my frunk. The trunk mod was goofy...it had separate springs and looked half baked. Good video though.

whata bout when you shut the hood might bend it like old chevy truck hood after awhile
@marc_benton5 жыл бұрын
When the hood is shut it isn't bent at all. And the way gas struts are designed is there is little up force on the hood when the strut is fully compressed. Brian has had his on his car for 5 months with no issues so I am not worried about it.

Looks like the price is about the same as the EVANNEX ones now :(
