Note about American garages: whether or not garages have a connection to the house depends on the house; on many older houses (especially those built before car ownership was common) the garage is a separate freestanding building.
@DaleKingProfile9 ай бұрын
In earlier houses the garage would have been a horse stable and you would want separation from that manure. Even after cars came about they would be smelly and a fire hazard. Then you had the 30s and 40s with the great depression and a world war that would limit the houses being built. Probably wasn't until about the 50s to 70s that attached garages became popular in new homes and primarily in higher end homes like the one George and Lorraine bought. Biff's house would probably be a cheaper house from around 1920. Also this was California and the big advantage of attached garages is not having to go out into the cold to get to your car so detached garages are more prevalent there

The Cubs ended up winning the World Series in 2016, making it 108 years since their previous win. From Wikipedia.."The film's prediction would prove to be incorrect by a year on Cubs winning the World Series in a four-game sweep against a team from Miami. The official Back to the Future Twitter account acknowledged this following the Cubs' win in seven games vs the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) by tweeting Way to go Cubbies and posting a still image from the film stating the same, and a follow-up tweet that said the 1994 player's strike caused a "disruption in the space-time continuum". Following the Cubs win, Michael J. Fox, star of the movie, reacted to the Cubs' win by tweeting Only off by a year, not bad and a congratulations message to The Cubs organization on the win." .. .."In Back to the Future Part II, the Chicago Cubs are depicted as the 2015 World Series champions, defeating a fictional American League team from Miami whose mascot is an alligator in four-game sweep starting October 17 and ending on 21st. The Miami Marlins would not be formed until four years later whose mascot is a billfish. The Cubs would end up facing the Miami Marlins in the 2003 National League Championship Series but lost in seven games. Screenwriter Bob Gale, who co-wrote the script of Back to the Future Part II, originally intended it as a joke, saying "Being a baseball fan, I thought, 'OK, let's come up with one of the most unlikely scenarios we can think of", referencing both the Cubs' long championship drought and the fact that Florida did not have a baseball team in 1989."

Fun reaction Bisscute. This version of 2015 is hilarious, but fun movie. Fun fact: Biff's $300 car repair in 1955 is equivalent to approx $3,452.43 in 2024. That car was a 1946 Ford Super De Luxe convertible, and orginal sticker price in 1946 was $1488 =approx $23,534.59 in 2024 dollars. I love the Back to the Future movies. My only problem is I'v never really believed the idea that Marty would be so bothered by being called a chicken. He's not 12. Making it hard to believe. So I wish the writers had a better idea to explain Marty's hand injury. Which in that timeline had ruined his possible music career. Plus that 2015 version of Marty dressed really terrible.😅

28:34 "Aren't usually American garages connected to the house, as well, so you guys have, like, a door or something?" Yes, that's true of most houses that were built after cars became truly ubiquitous when the freeway systems were built out, but IIRC that happened in the 1950s. Biff's grandma's house is older than that, as are most of the homes in existence in 1955. (Marty's house _does_ have that feature, but remember that it hasn't quite been built yet in 1955; it's only been planned.)
@Pixelologist9 ай бұрын
It's probably already been said but the filmmakers in NO way thought that 2015 would actually look like this. The date was so close to when the movie was released that they knew any predictions stood a very good chance of looking utterly ridiculous before very long so they went crazy with wild stuff that they knew WOULDN'T happen (probably). That is to say, they just had fun with it. 😃

He and his companions died on the second one in 1912 and became heroes to the scientific community when they found tree fossils with their frozen remains, proving that Antarctica had once had a warmer climate and was connected to the other continents. I imagine that he was one of doc's heroes as well when he was growing up. Hence the "great Scott" he keeps uttering when something amazing happens to him.

Great reaction like always, this one is amazing this might be my favorite trilogy of all time so I love seeing how much you love it! I can't WAIT for you to see Part III. There are some fun facts about this one. This movie was filmed back-to-back with Part III. If you notice they replaced the actress who played Jennifer Parker, Claudia Wells in the original Back to the future, but had to pull out of appearing in Part II after her mother was diagnosed with cancer. Elizabeth Shue was cast in the role instead and even re-shot the final scene of the first film, so it could be ‘replayed’ at the beginning of the second. This was Elijah Wood in his very first film role, Wood’s role, as an awed child by the arcade cabinet playing that game with pistols, Crispin Glover who portrais Mcfly Sr in the first one did not apper on this one. According to Glover, he discovered that he was offered far less to reprise his role in any given sequel than Lea Thompson for a similarly sized role, Glover’s agents demanded a higher fee and script approval, and Bob Gale responded by offering even less money than before. As a result, Glover pulled out of the sequel as was replaced by Jeffrey Weissman in heavy prosthetics. This is partly why George McFly is almost always shot in the dark, from behind, or upside-down. One of the more memorable gags about the future occurs when Marty is assailed by a holographic shark outside the cinema (or ‘Holomax’). The Jaws films, in spite of the critically panned Jaws 3-D and Jaws 4, are still going strong in the fictional 2015, marking the nineteenth entry in the franchise. Jaws 19 is directed by Max Spielberg, son of the legendary director. Max was born in June 1985, the ‘present’ era of the trilogy. Actors playing themselves is nothing new - and it wasn’t new in 1989, either. However, this was mostly achieved with clever camerawork and body doubles. Back to the Future Part II broke the mould by using a VFX trick that allowed the same actor to feature twice in the same frame: the ‘Vista Glide.’ As usual, necessity is the mother of invention. Given the number of times characters interact with their past selves, or alternate future selves, or narrowly avoid continuum-obliterating paradoxes, exactly this technique was needed. There are a genuine stunt injury in this film in the hoverboard chase. Due to a technical difficulty with the wires suspending the actors, Cheryl Wheeler-Duncan - the stunt double for Darlene Vogel’s Spike veers off-course and slams into the concrete pillar next to the glass. Ouch! She then falls 30 feet on to the concrete below. Evidently Zemeckis saw a silver lining in this on-set mishap, as that take is the one we see in the film. Keep up the good work.

lol they actually didn't intend to set up a sequel at the end of the first. No one including Spielberg had any idea at all that were would be a sequel. Few movies back then got sequels and no one had any confidence in the first one until it became a megahit out of the gate. But Universal wanted one right after the opening weekend. Bob Gale (the writer) said if they had any idea, they never would have written the end with a problem being their kids and they sure as hell wouldn't have written Jennifer getting into that car. Those were just throw-away funny lines to give Doc for one last time travel gag before the credits. Think about how unnecessary Jennifer was in this story...so much so that they literally knocked her out and dumped her in an ally. She was simply a brief plot device in the first one.

It shows that the last trip was back from 1955 -- a hint that the machine was borrowed. 25:00 I beg to differ. Coincidences occur all the time. In this case, a deleted scene from the future (involving the man who wanted to bet on the Cubbies) as well as the hoverboard scene recalled the incident to old Biff and suggested the time. 29:50 Doc isn't so immune to temptation. At one point when Doc was working on the set-up in Part 1, someone passed by on a bike. Bob denied the fan speculation that that was older Doc of Part II. 37:10 It's notable that the newspapers don't get fixed until Marty burns the book.

They actually sell those nikes, too. Also, if you watch the first movie, the part where Doc is showing Marty the time machine, Doc mentions going back and betting on the winning team in a sports event. Yet he scolds Marty for trying to do it in this movie.

There was no BTTF2 planned, it was because of the incredible success of back to the future that they decided to do the next two. In the first movie, they had the car fly off into the sky because they thought it would be a fun way to end it! The producers said that if they would have realized they would be doing a sequel they would never have ended the movie that way! 😂

While they were purposefully exaggerating the future stuff in the movie, I find it amusing that they put a whole bunch of things that don't exist in 2015, like flying cars, but have a print newspaper when something more digital would have been more common. Not that print newspapers are obsolete, but it's funny that they underimagined that part.
@MichaelScheele9 ай бұрын
Predicting the future is often like that: overestimating some developments and failing to foresee other developments. Back to the Future, Parts II & III, were released in 1989 and 1990 respectively. The commercial internet was a few years away at that point. The World Wide Web didn't exist yet, let alone streaming video. That's why they were still using faxes in the movies.

Or the fax machines everywhere. Combination printer/fax/scanner/espresso machines are cheap these days, but people don't have multiple in their houses, much less attached to their TVs.
@leesweets41109 ай бұрын
What do you mean purposefully exaggerated the future stuff? They couldnt have known what 30 years could accomplish. So they couldnt have purposefully gone overboard on it. They only way you could purposefully exaggerate something is to first know what that something would be. Imagine if 2015 tech was more advanced than whats depicted in BTTF2; would you still say they exaggerated it, and moreover do it purposefully?
@BKPrice9 ай бұрын
@@leesweets4110 From what I understand, they went a little wild on their depictions of future tech and society on purpose to avoid actually trying to predict the future, so it would be so outlandish that it would be more comedic than predictive. I haven't researched this, it's just what I've heard in comments from time to time.

I know I'm late with my comment, but just in case the difference hasn't been pointed out yet, sensitive, describes things like sight ,sound, touch, etc. So yes, your microphone can be described as sensitive. Sensible, describes making good decisions. If you're going outside in the cold it is sensible to wear a warm jacket. And just for fun we can use both words in a sentence: if you are sensitive to the cold it is sensible to wear a warm jacket😉

13:30 that George is actually not the og George played by crispin glover. It's a different guy imitating Crispin's George. Glover actually left the movie when he realized he was getting paid half of the other costar who are in it for same amount of screen time as him. & they literally used makeup to recreate his likeness. He then went on to sue the production & even won. Since then it's illegal to use likeness of an actor who previously worked. But as you & almost everyone who watches this never realises that it's not actually the same actor shows you how they succeeded. & how shitty it is. Will always hate the production for that. That's another reason why both him & Jennifer are not that much in this movie.

You shouldn't be too nervous about those things, you're just great the way you are. And about the futuristic scenes, i don't know if they actually thougt that's the way things would be. I think it's mostly about emphasizing the fact that they are in the future so they go over the top with stuff.

The reason for the change in actresses is because the original Jennifer (Claudia Wells) took some time off from acting to take care of her sick mother who was battling cancer at the time of both BTTF parts 2 & 3 (which were filmed back to back). Her mom sadly did pass away in 1994 😞. And Claudia wouldn't return to acting until 2008. She has since appeared in several BTTF reunions (at multiple conventions & in TV specials) alongside Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and her other co-stars.

There are companies developing flying cars, but they are very restricted right now on where they can fly, and prices would be very expensive. Even more air traffic control would have to be developed for them to get to common use someday.

I feel like, of all the franchise reboots, this is the one they could have had the most fun with if done correctly. Having a kid from 2015 going back to 1985.

So Doc Brown has to get Marty's son, to rescue Jennifer from alternate 1985, but in doing so, cool 2015, turns into our 2015. No flying cars or hoverboards, so they have to find a way to "correct" the timeline, and make all the cool things from BTF2 cone true.

It was not what they thought the future would be like, they just came up with joke ideas. In the 80's 1950's theme "retro look" diners were big ( and remain somewhat popular ), so they thought in the future it could be an 80's theme diner. The filmmakers said the character Biff was inspired by Trump ( this was long before he got involved in politics ), most strongly seen in Part II.
