We had the time to get this new 380 ACP EAA Girsan MC14 T to the range and the results were disappointing. I paid full price for this, so this is my honest owner review. I would recommend this for a collector, but I would not try to have my Mom try to operate this, let alone rely on it as her primary self defense weapon. But, for the collector, such as Hammer and myself, it is a neat item to try out, because of it's tip up barrel. I do not think I will keep it long term though, because for the price point that it is at, I expect a lot less problems / short comings.

Took my elderly mother to the range, she had a glock 19, she couldn't pull the slide anymore with her age, so we decided this is the perfect fit for her so she doesn't have to work the slide to load it. This is a perfect fit for her. I like it so much, I might get one for myself too...lol.

We need more guns in this catagory that we can recommend to people with compromised strength and dexterity. I am sorry to hear that this one may not satisfy that need. Also, I am also disappointed that the Beretta PX4 is seldom included in lists of very good DA/SA pistols. After thousands of rounds, I think the PX4 is among the most reliable and easy shooting of these styles of handguns. As always, thanks for a great video.

I prefer the p229/226 as far as DA/SA guns go. Most guns in that category (including the px4 and 92fs) have the DA trigger sitting too far out for my shortish fingers to operate comfortably.

The tip up barrel means you cannot have an extractor. It would prevent the barrel from tipping up. None of the Beretta tip up models (21a, 3032, 950, 96) have an extrator. It is the trade off for not needing to pull back the heavy recoil spring on blowback pistols.

Beretta 84/86 and sds fatih mags all work with this gun. So it's actually $25 for a new magazine not $40. Fit and finish are excellent on mine. 500 plus rounds so far with zero issues has fed and ejected everything properly. Have had the slide bite once or twice but it's negligible. So far no complaints with mine.

Great review. You are one of my go to reviewers for firearms. I think the biggest drawback to this pistol is the inability to really field strip this gun. The beretta Tomcat with its tip up barrel allows you to field strip it. Stay safe 👍
@PatriotPaulUSA
@PatriotPaulUSA 4 ай бұрын
Its 1 roll pin that has to be removed to be able to strip the barrel, slide spring off the tip up barrel Girsan MC14T Many reviewers get this wrong unfortunately. Its because of the unique design of the tilt up barrel that they had to do this. If you really need a tilt up barrel its prolly not a big deal to take out a single roll pin to completely take down a pistol for cleaning and lubricating. IMHO. To the average tactical guy that is shooting Glocks,Rugers, S&W's etc it may be a big deal to him. But I doubt he needs a tilt up barrel.

In the manual exploded diagram it appears you would have to drive out a helix pin that secures the barrel fixing pin. Then it looks like the slide and recoil spring and guide rod should be able to slide off the front. That could have been made with an ar style pushpin that would have allowed tool less disassembly for a thorough cleaning.
@PatriotPaulUSA
@PatriotPaulUSA 4 ай бұрын
Maybe, but maybe not, with all the force and vibration on the actual barrel they may have figured a roll pin was safer. On a AR its just holding a lower on. Everything on the upper is secure and tight. I guess a firearms engineer would have to confrm this. unfortunately they are as rare as hens teeth. 😁😆😅

I just bought one of these Girsan MC14T's. Its not a big deal imho. Its 1 roll pin that you remove, then remove the slide and barrel. With a tilt up barrel its probably imperative that the hinge pin cannot loosen, or fall out, no matter what. I think that is why they had to do it with a roll pin. Berretta and Girsan both built it that way, for a reason.

@@Sandhill1988 The tilt up barrel Beretta 86 was the rarest of all of the 8 series 80 Beretta pistols. I'm pretty sure that is why they are so pricey these days. There are very, very, few around, and there were never many made. I think Berretta may have screwed up by not re releasing the 86 and instead re released the 80X . (not a tilt up barrel 380). But then again it would be close to a $1000.00 pistol from Berretta so maybe they didnt. Prolly not a huge market for 1000.00 380s in volume anyway. EAA/Girsan really scooped them on this with the latest market trend of Ruger's "Lite Rack" 380 and S&Ws "Easy Rack" 380 pistols. This is even better- the MC14T "No Rack 380" 😆😅🤣😂 I just bought a 2 tone MC14T new, for under $400.00 and I recently saw a pristine 86 at auction here in MO for $1599.00 It had its case ,manual and its 2- 8 round single stack mags. Ill take this new Girsan with 13 round mags and shoot the heck out of it and enjoy it. It would be hard to do that with an original 86 these days. Oh yeah the Girsan MC14T can use the Berretta's new 80x doublestack 13round mags from Mc Gar/Berretta. I just ordered 3 of them for under 30.00 each.
@PatriotPaulUSA
@PatriotPaulUSA Жыл бұрын
Very nice review of its workings and controls and manual of arms. This showed some of this pistols strengths and weaknesses! Don't forget the new Ruger Security 380 is a "Lite Rack" 15+1 to compete with the S&W "Easy Rack". I just bought a Ruger new for $279.99 as my 1st 380. I like these all metal, older style, fixed barrels, like this one, and the Bersa Thunder Plus 15+1. I cant afford the new Non tilt up barrel, Berretta 80X, or lets say I just couldn't justify its $800.00 price. I wonder if these 2 manufacturers would have different weight springs available for different power load sized ammo? Maybe Wolff Springs might. DA/SA's definitely have a different manual of arms to learn. That is primarily why I chose the Ruger. I would hate not being able to field strip and clean the rails, etc. However that is not the case with the Girsan. Its 1 rollpin in the hinge pin collar that has to be removed to remove the hinge pin collar and hinge pin then the barrel and half the hinge lift out and the slide slides off! I have read its much worse on the original and extremely rare Berretta 86's as they supposedly had a splined hinge pin that is very hard to remove. I cant confirm this, as I have never even seen an original 86, IRL much less gotten to strip it for cleaning. I love these older style metal guns , I may also try a Bersa Thunder Max someday. Thanks again for honest, excellent explanations, and going thru all the intricacies of manual of arms etc of the Girsan MC14T.

I have had both the Beretta .22 and ,25 tip up models for 25 years. Neither of them has failed to operate. One is stored under a car seat and the other under a table/magnet. I also pocket carry them. I do like the safety of just opening the barrel to remove the live round to disable the weapon. The hand grip is to short on the Bereatta for me to fully grasp them as a larger framed pistol might. Now this MC14T might have the right size grip in length and my current carry PPKL .380 is old school heavy steel. I like it but it is heavy. I only use top end ammunition so I suspect this pistol would do well. I am also strong enough to clear any slide action yet I prefer not to in order to chamber an emergency round. This MC14T also has a magazine which holds your first round at the bottom to quickly load the barrel if needed.

We just got the MC14 T Lady for my wife. She loves the look and feel of the gun. 2 issues at this point. NO single round loader came with the gun as shown in a May 2023 video; 2nd one, the magazine is extremely hard to load. My wife only managed to get ONE round into the mag. I managed to load 12 but the 13th didn't make it. Left with some sore thumbs. Only one mag is also a drawback at the $682 retail price.. So, we will be making a call to EAA tomorrow to talk about the missing single round loader and the hard loading magazine. Maybe there is a mag loader that will work with this magazine. IF not, I would NOT recommend it for a woman or a man with weak hands.

Ok This is a almost exact copy of a very rare Beretta 86 pistol. Beretta's rarest of all the 8 models of Series 80 pistols. I recently saw an original 86 with case, 2 -8rnd mags, and manual at auction for $1599.00 here in MO. Pretty crazy! Turkish gunmakers like Tisas and Girsan are fantastic at copying history's older all metal guns and releasing them, many times at about 50% of the cost of the now older used originals. Also many times they are nearly the same quality as well. In this case Girsan updated the 86 to a doublestack 13 round over the originals 8 round single stack. They also added the rail to improve the looks and the ability to add a light, etc. The original looked very strange with tons of metal all across the bottom just for strength and support for the hinge pin. Some have complained neither can be field stripped easily with no tools. That is because of its unique tilt up barrel. The MC14T requires 1 roll pin to be removed to remove the barrel and slide. Its not a big deal to drive out 1 roll pin on the hinge pin collar, then remove the hinge pin collar and hinge pin. Then the barrel and half the hinge lift off and the slide and spring are slid off and everything can be cleaned and lubed. If removing 1 tiny roll pin is "Gunsmith Work" You probably don't need, or want, or should have, a tilt up barrel pistol. Girsan doesn't even mention how to do this in their manual! Many reviewers fail to explain or show how easy this is to do. Girsan says that just tilting the barrel up and cleaning the barrel is a "field strip" So much for Turkish manuals! I will bet that Berretta who designed this pistol says otherwise. We all know that slides need to be removed and cleaned and lubed, and its pretty simple. I just purchased one of these Girsan MC14T's to go along with my 3.42" Ruger Security 380. These Girsan's are 4.5" barrels on the MC14T. I will enjoy it and shoot the heck out it for under $400.00 and not feel a bit bad about it. I could Not do that, even if I could find, or justify, an original Berretta 86, single stack, 8 round ,tilt up barrel, $1000.00+ pistol.

I had to sell most of my gun collection a couple years ago thanks to our oh-so-awesome healthcare system, not getting into it but i think anyone owuld be pissed in my position, anyway, i got a walther PPK/s .22 which i carry on the regular, never had an issue with it, im pretty damn good with shot placement, i have seen combat, if not that HK P30LS (which having owned 35 pistols and operated more, it's my most-trusted, but too big) im doing little armed protection gigs and was looking at more blowback designs, outside of the, and iwas proud of this, the Smith n Wesson Equalizer is basically a hypothetical gun i designed in a notebook years ago i was stoked to see an engineer for Smith n Wess apparently had the same ideas going (my final addition would have been modular with an optiona high carbon steel frame which i know would change a lot of things but the SIG P250 works fantastic as a hammer-fired modular, but an internal hammer fired modular gun? IDK enough about gunsmithing to know if that owuld be an issue or not) Anyway, in wanting to keep with what I love: The PPK (or maybe a SAR 9 for a HK VP9/Walther-ish clone) the Equalizer, Walther PPQ, this gun here, and finally, what i think ive ofund to be the perfect intersection on budget-meets-reliability and capacity: The Bersa Combat Plus .380. Now I don't see as many issues as you do, i dont mind, buuuut, seeing as how i could find a Combat Plus .380 for around $380 after taxes, maybe $325-350, it really seems like it's fair to put it up against this (the others being such a diff design and price range wouldn't be as fair it's more what I'm shopping around with). I of course wish I could get an HK P30 V1 LEM and graygun mod that bitch but id have to find one used for $500 or less, now ive found deals like that before (SIG P229 is my moby dick but again, likely not gonna happen all the police trade-ins are sold out so.....) Bersa is more than likely what im getting but i wouldn't rule this out. On the Wlather PPK/S .22, ive been very surprised at the stopping power with the right ammo, knowing one other person who had to use one in self-defense. Finally just an aside, the new Taurus .38 2" or 2.5" barrel 6 shooter /w spurred hammer, but clocking around 20 oz has me intrigued. So i got a big decision, im looking for lowest price possible meets reliability, having been so into my PPK i think the Bersa would suit me best, could share a lot of holsters, carry the PPK/S .22 as backup, etc. I really love this design, would love to get it, if only it were $75 cheaper on the regular and i could rent it next to a bersa, i think they are highly comparable. The Bersa combat plus .380 btw, is one of my "go to" for teaching newbies on a budget.

Hard to believe that Berretta would design a pistol that could not be disassembled to clean and lube after 500 yrs of making firearms. The Girsan has 1 roll pin to remove on the hinge pin collar, then the collar slides off, the hinge pin slides out, and the barrel and 1/2 the hinge lift out, and the slide slides off. Its really pretty simple. The tilting barrel design is why it has to have 1 roll pin. If removing that 1 roll pin is a big deal, you prolly do not need a tilt up barrel pistol. That is fine too. There is only these 2 tilt up barrel 380 pistols and they are not for everyone. The Berettas are extremely rare and almost impossible to acquire, and when they are, they bring insane prices. I recently saw a pristine old Berretta model 86 here in MO with its plastic case 2 -8round mags and its manual that was listed on auction for $1599.00! Insanity! IMHO. So the Girsan MC14T is really the only one today. I just bought a doublestack, 13 round, Girsan MC14T, and I'll shoot the heck out of it for under $400.00! I could not bring myself to do that with a extremely rare, old, single stack, Berretta 86.

On the issue of "Slide bite" or "Hammer bite", I've been a shooter for 50+ years, and a good pair of shooting gloves is always in my range bag! They have been part of my equipment for as long as I can remember. Thus I NEVER get bite by my gun! NEVER! Q. WHY do not more shooters take this easy and simple precaution???? It just seems 😕 bizarre to my ears to hear all this bellyaching about slide/hammer bite! GET SOME GLOVES! Problem solved. (Many, many guns are fussy about the brand/type of ammo that they run best with! I can't say I'm surprised that you were able to find a brand/type that the gun "didn't like"! Just DON'T USE THAT BRAND! Again; problem solved!)

Would be nice if the company offered free cleanings since the disassembly is pretty much impossible for people with medical issues. What would end up happening is they don't clean it and it continues to jam to the point where they stop using it altogether. Free shipping would be nice too.

Its removing 1 roll pin to disassemble the slide and barrel, many reviewers failed to acknowledge this unfortunately. It appears to be similar on the original model 86 Berretta if anyone looks at an actual picture or blowup you can see.

Not the fault of the gun because it jambed!! Because it doesn't have an extractor by the time you started testing critical defense at any point prior did you spray out the barrel and chamber!! Did you lube it prior to shooting anything!!??

tilt barrel for weak hand strength. hot it. my question that no one will answer. if you have to clear a malfunction how hard is it to rack the slide? EZ eady? Rugar 380 easy? or back to normal thus mitigating the weak grip tilt up feature. thank you.

@ linscat (above) said this: 'I wish I had seen your review before I bought this gun. I’m 74 and have some difficulty racking slides, so when I saw this pistol thought it would be perfect. Now I can’t rack the slide back on it in case of a jam so I’m almost afraid to go to the range. Also the cleaning issue.' At 09:00 onward, the reviewer refers to stoppage clearance procedure and comments that 'the slide is actually quite heavy on this [pistol]'.

You would not need to rack the slide to clear a jam. You would tip open the barrel and then press the mag release and drop the mag.

Not sure the target audience for this gun is going to be practice enough to get through any break in period. The way the round can stay in the barrel is also scary.

I don't know why firearm manufacturers have to continuously put a pic rail on 380s this is a concealed carry pistol caliber also ruins the classic lines of the Beretta Style
@PatriotPaulUSA

Look at a pic of an actual Berretta Model 86 . The pic rail on the Girsan MC14T actually improved the style IMHO . Its the 1st time I have seen that though! The original 86 looked very strange with a ton of extra metal all the length and below the barrel just to support the hinge in IMHO. Im sure It had to be there, but it looked pretty strange to me.
