Usually writers try to avoid the huge, strong guys as main protagonists, or they make them one dimensional. This is refreshing to me because of how both how important and unimportant Reacher's size is to his character.

It's important to me as someone who was majorly disappointed in the films choice of Tom Cruise. I've read most of the books since childhood and in one Reacher kills two men by palming their skulls and crushing them together. I just don't see Tom doing that. He's a decent martial artist but I wouldn't be intimidated by him. Since the show aired friends of mine have pointed out that I have a similar personality to Reacher. Probably just influenced by the books but I do believe that I have more scars than the character because of my average size. If I was as big as Alan then maybe people wouldn't underestimate me as much.

Literally found myself staying up overnight to binge the season on accident when I work in a couple hours. Absolutely loved the show and happy for Alan Ritchson, he has deserved a big role like this and Reacher fits him perfectly.

I would say the only thing that keeps it from being "perfect" in terms of Reacher as a character is that in the show he says he is 6'5 but the actor is 6'2.

The movie was okay, but after watching this TV show, I am looking forward to reading the book because so many people commented that this show really honored the book, and I like that! I look forward to Season 2.

@@hazelle7319 Personally for me, Cruise nailed the character in every way except for the one thing that he couldn't train for, which was size. He's supposed to be this unstoppable force or immovable wall, and regardless of the acting, training, stuntwork, I can understand how people just aren't convinced with 5' 7'' Mini-Reacher. In my honest opinion though, a lot of people should be thanking Tom Cruise. He did do the character justice, brought even more attention to a bestselling series that already has a decent following, and showed Hollywood and other entities that this type of thing is something that audiences want to see. Which ultimately paved the way for a series, that in the end, checks all the boxes and does a fantastic job of adapting the source material. And I'll go a step further and argue that the TV adaptation is better than the source material, full stop.

My wife and I have read all 26 novels (also all the short stories and novellas). We binged it in ONE go. They ripped the character right out of the book series. Very faithful adaptation of the first book, Killing Floor. Love Alan Ritchson is NOW the definituve visualization of Jack Reacher. Another notable is Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe. So well cast and inhabited. There are others in the series, but I'll talk about them, later. Love the music that is used in this series. Obviously all the Blues, but even most of the songs that are seen by Reacher as being bad. Up to taste, that's for sure. Thanks for this GREAT reaction. Cannot wait to see more of them.

If you watch Alan's interviews about Reacher, he read ALL the books that were available and became a huge fan himself.

@@w1975b - Yes, and that made him MORE beloved for him doing that. He didn't have to do that, but BECAUSE he did that...we believe he understands the character even more...which actually shows in his performance. I think this is some of the best work that he's ever done...and we hope that he does MANY more seasons of the GREAT show. Also, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Who doesn't like a nice guy?

My housemate is a massive Reacher fan, I only knew bits and pieces via osmosis, both of us think this is an awesome show :) He's also a big guy (not Reacher big, but over 6 foot still), and the scene where Reacher is walking down the street in his new clothes and the mother pulled her child away from him, I couldn't help but ask if he'd experienced similar. The response was "You learn to ignore it"... It's really nice to see a big guy NOT portrayed as a dumb giant or a monster. Stoked you're enjoying (and reviewing)

7:58 is when I KNEW - everything leading up was correct, his analyzations his detective prowess - but the monster himself going full brutality like that is when I knew, I'm in safe hands with this show - they do REACHER justice. Then the shower scene - haven't felt adrenaline from a show like that, maybe ever?

This is why fans of Jack Reacher books didn't like Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, Tom Cruise is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, while Jack Reacher from the books is 6ft 4-5 inches and weight over 230 pounds. Cruise although a great actor is lucky if he weighs 150.

Reacher's voice needs to be dubbed or the actor needs to use his lower register. This "Reacher's" voice is too high and too girly. We learned how, or were supposed to have, to use our lower registers in Boot camp
